[Plugin idea]

msn plugin = index all contacts

to start a chat, do the following : msn john + enter

527
A code snippet manager would be great !

you specify a folder, let's say C:\Documents and Settings\Nico\My Documents\Snippets
this folder contains sub-folders with textual files (.css, .htm, .php, .js, etc.)

The plugin would index those files along with their content!

idealy the results window would show the file names + a text snippet of the file
then we you would select a result it would copy the file content into the clipboard (or you could open it, as an alternative... to modify it)

Hope someone is motivated

Cheers, Nitrix

ok ill try it.. maybe it has something to do with launching from regular expression..

i tried with no regular expression, same results...

529
Yes it happens every time
here is a screen capture of my alias

Thanks for this new release !

unfortunately for me, the new alias content modifier /STAYOPEN does not work
it just freezes FARR ! the Farr window is minimized/closed instead of staying open, and even worse Farr does not work anymore, the hotkey does not bring farr, the tray icon is not responding, ...
so i have to manually shut down Farr then relaunch it

Any idea ?

PS: i'm running xp pro sp2

Find And Run Robot / Re: [feature idea] icons for alias results ?
« on: April 25, 2007, 05:40 AM »
I think it would be very handy if you could specify icon for each result, back to my example :

specific icon for each icon makes the choice easier... one for google, one for yahoo, one for live, etc.

but having a global icon for an alias is a good idea too, and i would use it ! maybe you could add a global icon which shows for every result of the alias but is ignored when one is specified in a result of the alias

Cheers, nitrix

Find And Run Robot / [feature idea] icons for alias results ?
« on: April 24, 2007, 02:28 PM »
Hi mouser,

it would be really nice to have the ability to add a specific icon to an alias result, for example i would love to add specific icons to my following yubnub alias results:

YubNub $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...arser/parse?command=$$c
Google + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...rser/parse?command=g+$$c
Yahoo + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...rser/parse?command=y+$$c
Live Search + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...er/parse?command=wls+$$c
Whois whois + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or.../parse?command=whois+$$c
ctqui + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or.../parse?command=ctqui+$$c
Delicious + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...r/parse?command=deli+$$c
Wikipédia + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...er/parse?command=wpf+$$c
IMDB + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...r/parse?command=imdb+$$c
chars | http://www.yubnub.or.../parse?command=chars
schar | http://www.yubnub.or.../parse?command=schar
php + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or...er/parse?command=php+$$c
mysql + $$c | http://www.yubnub.or.../parse?command=mysql+$$c

it would be much easier to read with some icons...

i think i would be a great feature !

Keep up the good work, i can't wait to see the next release !!!

great you are my hero !  :D

534
I support this

@mouser, i already suggested that it would be a great idea to be able to use an external text file as a "results container"
for example, it could be implemented right in the results box, instead of having the different results, we could have the path of the text file:

remplace :
FARR - Help | restartsearch gohelp
FARR - Show All Known Aliases | restartsearch agroups
FARR - Open Options Dialog | restartsearch gooptions
FARR - Configure Toolbar | restartsearch gotoolbar
FARR - Show About Box / Enter LicenseKey | restartsearch goabout
FARR - Visit Find+Run Robot Web Page | restartsearch gowebpage
FARR - Show Launch History | restartsearch historyl
FARR - Show Search History | restartsearch historys

by :
resultstextfile = c:/FARRcommands.txt

it could also be a mix :
FARR - Show Search History | restartsearch historys
resultstextfile = c:/somecommands.txt
FARR - Visit Find+Run Robot Web Page | restartsearch gowebpage
resultstextfile = c:/someothercommands.txt

it would then be easy for many users to update/modify those text files without interfering much with FARR (i would for example create a button in dopus to add a shortcut to a folder in an favorite alias..., i would also create a small ahk script to add a url in a url favorite alias...)
Does it make sense ?

Keep up the good work, nitrix

A minor addition but potentially quite useful (seeing as I just noticed that the alpha I am running is a bit behind the times)
How about a "Check for New Version" from the help menu

good idea, i think an special word would be even better "gocheckversion"

536
Hi mouser !

i have a small feature request, is it possible to have a "link" in the contextual menu of an alias (in the result list) to go to its edit dialog ?
It would be very very handy to slightly modify an existing alias...

Cheers, Nitrix

537
in the first case, dont put the + in the alias name, only when you invoke it.
thanks !

538
Hi Mouser, i tried the Alias Action Keywords feature with no luck, is it broken ?

here is what i did :
farr.png
the +notepad modifier does not do anything...  :(

an other thing concerning the aliases, i created this one but the $cc does not work, i found that with a simpler regex ^yubnub (.*) it works... strange no ?
farr_yubnub.png

cheers, Nitrix

539
and for the one who asked for it ?  :D

540
plugin to search del.icio.us bookmarks, it would be fantastic !

Hi, mouser

i would like to use FARR to control the volume on my laptop
so i created two very simple scripts in autohotkey (.ahk)

volume down
#NoTrayIcon
SoundSet -3

and volume up
#NoTrayIcon
SoundSet +3

i created an alias as follow :
edit alias.png

so that when i type volume i have the following choices :
farr.png

I can then increase the volume with ctrl+1 and decrease it with ctrl+2, by setting in the options ctrl+# to "launch and stay"

What i would suggest to make things easier :

1) i'd like to be able to select an item and then press ctrl+enter...
ctrl+enter would launch the selected item and keep FARR opened as long as ctrl+# is set to "launch and stay", etc.

2) even better, maybe we could have optional parameters in the alias edit box, to specify that FARR has to stay opened :
volume up | C:\_joker\Utilities\Ahk\volume up.ahk | FARRSTAYOPEN
volume downn | C:\_joker\Utilities\Ahk\volume down.ahk | FARRSTAYOPEN

I'm sure it would be usefull and would allow new ways to use FARR (like sound settings in colibri, ...)

Hope you find it a good idea

Cheers, Nitrix

Same here ! i noticed it since the last release...

an other thing, i find quite disturbing the fact that FARR searches an alias by name AND autocompletes its name, let me explain :

let's say i have this alias :
Name : launch in different browser
regex : ^open (.*)
action :
Firefox $$c | C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe "$$c"
Opera $$c | ...
....

to search for it, i can type launch, but then if i use tab to autocomplete it, i have "launch in a different browser" in the edit box which is unusable, since the regex asks for open...
of course, one could choose the word(s) as the regex OR better yet change the regex to ^launch in different browser (.*)

@mouser
i think that it could be disturbing for other people
maybe you could add a field in the alias edit form, so that we could manually specified what we want ??

Just my two cents ;) keep up the great work

Cheers, nitrix

544
GREAT Mouser !
you did it, thanks to the window display bug fix, i now can tell you that FARR does not miss the first 3-4 letters as it did before (when launching it and beginning to type fast...)

still one step to go to be as user friendly as Launchy ;) (but much more powerfull ;))
the ability to search without the consecutive letters

when i want to launch, say the power calculator (microsoft powertoys)
with launchy i can type : pw
or to launch my favorite game, warcraft 3 Frozen Throne, i just type : fz
and believe me it makes a huge difference

I have no idea if this is possible, easy/hard, ... i would just love it ! (of course i guess you would make it an option !)

Keep up the good work and thanks again for the bug fix !

Nitrix

545
Hi mouser,

i have an azerty keyboard but use it as a qwerty (which is much better for programming)
the alt gr (i think it means alternate graving) is the one on the right

Cheers !

546
nitrix are you using the lastest v2 alphas? I think (hope) they solve this problem. I'll send you the link.

yes i am ! 2.00.39

547
Hi mouser,

i know you'll hate me for telling my most wanted new feature (it's not really a feature...), but i'd like to switch to FARR so much ;)

I'm still using Launchy, because it is much much faster to wake up, and never misses a keystroke...
When i use FARR, the time it opens, it misses 2-3 letters, for example when i launch Power Calculator, when i use FARR, i just have "er" instead of "power"
i'm not that fast a typist (around 60 wpm, maybe 100wpm when using keyboard launcher...) and my computer is quite powerfull (centrino, 1.5giga ram)

My guess is that launchy is faster (maybe not faster, but it does not miss first keystrokes) because it only loads an input box (and then a dropdown list of results) (pretty  much like app rocket...)
I'm pretty sure some people does not feal confortable using FARR because of this, just my two cents...

Keep up the great work, Cheers !! :D

548
Hi mouser,

i can't wait january 12 for the public release, can you provide me with the download link ;)

Thanks a lot !
