Like the new "splice" feature  :). Can we have it on the toolbar, please.

Question, re print settings - they don't appear to be saved as they revert to original settings after reboot i.e. when I print I set the margins to 1cm all round and next time I boot there back to 1 inch.

Regarding #1, I have completely rewritten a nice new thumbnail panel system but i just have to tweak it a little more before i integrate.. it solves the refreshing and is better in a bunch of ways.  what i have to do is get the normal right click file menu to work on it.

I thought i solved #2; i will look again.

Hope the following information helps re "not keeping settings"  :)

What I have worked out is that when it does not start minimized correctly it has overwritten the ScreenshotCaptor.ini file. Having taken a backup copy of this I can (via a simple batch file) exit the current running version, restore the .ini file and re-start ScreenshotCaptor.

Installed new release and it seems to have fixed the start-up bug but the following are not fixed

1) Thumbnail refresh (visually extremely irritating and makes it almost impossible to rename a screenshot from the thumbnail pane)

2) Seems to usually not retain settings for many areas between boot up e.g.

- highlight settings (inner colour & border thickness)
- text box settings (background colour, font size)
- arrow settings (arrow head size)

Sigh. Still waiting for these to be fixed ...  :(

54
Thanks for new release. Comments

1) Not impressed that it automatically took all my existing files and placed them in subfolders without asking (hint, a prompt would have been nice). Resulted in a "WTF !" but was easy enough to work out and undo.

2) Flickering looks improved but not really sure if it is fixed (here is hoping).

3) Still have the problem where it sometimes forgets my settings for highlights (specifically 'Inner Color' off and 'Line width' = 3') plus the hiding the file comments area.

4) Have a new intermittent (but frequent) problem where the Screenshot captor appears in the task bar at system start. Have set to start when system starts. Please note this started with 2.77.01.

55
Thanks again. Will wait  :)

Ta for reply. Some feedback

1) It is still forgetting or losing on a regular basis the highlight setting (reverts to line thickness of 2 and the 'Inner Color' check box ticked) and the hiding of the "lower panel"

2) Ctrl/C seems to work

3) "Endless refresh" seems better in later releases though this is not consistent.

For 1) above is there an editable file we can change and or check for these settings ?

57
Will this fix the problem where it also forgets approx 50% of the time some other settings

i.e.

Draw Highlighting Rectangle - reverts to 'Inner Color' check box ticked, and Line Width of 2 (I set it to 3)
Bottom area (one with the zoom pane, series and comments panes) which I hide by dragging all the way down

and of course the long standing bugs

1) Preview pane endless refresh

2) Crtl/C does not copy to clipboard (have to use the menu)

It was on "autosize" so have tried '160 x 120'.

I have been keeping all my screen shots as a "history" so may look at using 'Move To'.

Small note - help file does not line up with menus at the moment e.g. help indicates this is in 'General Settings' but under 2.42.01 it is now under 'Interface Options'.

Update: Setting to the fixed size seems to settle it down a fair bit. At times it still goes silly refreshing but mostly it seems to fix it.

Well the bug is not really fixed but it is intermittent  :-\. I'm not aware of what triggers the behaviour but what I have observed is

1) Sometimes it does a few refreshes and then stops

2) SC is seems to rescanning the folder, can see the CPU usage of SC spiking in Process Explorer and these coincide with the refresh

Latest version of SC seems to handle this better than the previous version which use to transfer the focus away from whatever dialog I had open e.g. file rename or options.

Would it be at influenced by the fact that I have a lot of files in the folder, over 1600 ?

Seems good so far as follows

1) Created new folder and changed setting, exited & re-opened program as I run it resident. Looked good but then there are no files

2) Copied in a couple of existing files, seemed OK, exited & re-opened program

3) Copied in a whole heap more files, seemed OK, exited & re-opened program

Many thanks and very happy :) at the moment. Will keep you advised.

Well, the "bug" lies with the program as far as I can see  :(. To prove this I

1) Started Process Monitor from System Internals and set a filter to include the screen shot folder.

2) Waited for several seconds and no captured events (there were 50,000+ events which were ignored /filtered out).

3) Opened Screenshot Captor from minimised state in the system tray and with no other activity / action from me Process Monitor captured 133,000+ events all from Screenshot Captor and the vast majority 'QueryOpen' on the files.

If I filter for this QueryOpen I find it did this 133,376 times in 23 seconds and there were only 380 other events. That seems like a hell of a lot of times it is looking at the files when nothing else is being done. Now as other people aren't seeing this the "bug" seems to be invoked by a configuration related item. Any ideas.

If you are interested the attached ZIP has the Process Explorer log file and the Screenshot Captor configuration files. System is XP Pro SP3 with Screenshot Captor 2.42.01

Thanks for the reply. Don't know what to say as to reproducing as it still does it to me. I have tried

1) Re-installing

2) Changing the folder back to default one (and copied all my files in there)

Still does it. This implies something on my configuration causes the problem. Can you tell us what triggers a refresh of the thumbnail view from within Screenshot Captor.

63
Like some of the others did not realise there are free alternatives but if you add as a plugin and it is not too much effort then yes.

However if you could turn your attention to the auto-refresh bug ...  ;)

I love Screenshot Captor but the refresh problem is a real pain if you are attempting to rename a file because when it refreshes it aborts what you have typed so far. The latest release (23.37.03) still has it.

Done an un-install/delete folder then re-install and still present. Points to note

1) Yes, I use a non-standard folder for my files
2) No, it only has capture files (.png) and the objects files (.png.objects)

I note the program help is out of date on General Settings - refers to 'Prevent pageouts' which seems to be relate but helps screenshot is missing tabs and fields. Oh well, keeping program documentation and manuals up to date is a pain.
