Now that book looks interesting..

It's as close to riveting as you can get with technical documentation. We're not talking about watered down high level (Barney Style..) Pablum for upper management to consume in the boardroom via PowerPoint. This is live fire, in the trenches, pack-A-lunch, scientifically proven reproducible results with all the code - both disassembly and exploit - given for review and testing!

This by far the single most incredibly in-depth flat-out awesome thing I have ever read on the topic!

For those curious about just how horrifyingly asymmetrical the AV war has become, check out the ebook Panzer posted in the free ebooks thread:

This is what I do and it works a treat.

Methylated spirits/denatured alcohol should remove the offending material, but you'll want to clean it all off

Same here, but with a spray surface cleaner (Stoner brand I think) that they use at the office. Also consider using it to clean the mouse pad if it has a hard(ish) plastic surface, as they can get a bit tacky as well over time.

Just had to do this (both) at work a few months back. Quarter fold paper towel, spray some in the center, wipe down mouse and pad.

There is no such thing as enough transparency when it comes to politicians..

There should be an independent fact checking organization that puts a lie meter overlay on every political ad that airs...every time it airs.

And the politicians should be forced to wear sponsorship patches prominently on their person at all times - like NASCAR drivers - so we all know who is paying them to think which way.

We should have a mashup between Hollywood style paparrazi, and hacking challenge bugg hunts motoring them 24/7/365 for misbehavior and deception … Including the huge cash prizes for good finds.

...ThaT might be a good start.

The best thing for me is other people adapting so that more things can be done without me having to interact with humans in person :)

Agreed, but for some of us it's best not to go too far with that, lest we go cave shopping and completely withdraw from society.

Seriously...the temptation is always there gnawing at the edges, because alone is oh so much "safer"..

Ever notice vampires always come from Europe and never Africa?

I think it's because vampires are afraid of holy water and...

Spoiler
...they bless the rains down in Africa.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Show IP Address from domain name

Dealing with varying user skill levels, having the game server host a web page that simply displayed its IP address might be the easiest way out for all.

"How to delete a folder that Windows can't find?" -- sounds like a zen koan

It was for a lot of FTP admins back in the day. Pirates would search for an un or poorly secured FTP server, and the create a folder tree with a space as one of the folder names using a Linux client (which allowed it..). Warez shoppers could easily traverse the path from outside, but the FTP admin could not see the hidden - space named - folder on their server using the Windows Explorer shell … Until the used space on the drive started to draw attention to something being very (very...) wrong.

85
Stuff I've done in the past:
Shorten names from above until it comes into range.
Map a drive letter to something just above the problem folder to "shorten" its path when accessed through the mapped letter.

and if you just want to delete it:
RmDir \\.\C:\[parent folder path] /q /s

Had to use that one a few times to get rid of hacked FTP's with hidden folder trees, using space character named folders.

Just got back from a 6,000 mile cross country run, and was in Arizona...So I thought I'd share this one.

This is Trixie at sunset 40 miles west of Flagstaff:

It took me 20 minutes on the side of the road - dicking with the phone's camera - to get that shot right.

I think in most cases, "Endpoint" is synonymous with "Individual monetary stream to be exploited".

It was one of those 'we got to talking' type situations while my bike was on the Dyno last Saturday. He had wanted to start selling parts online a few years back, but got hooked up with some company that was soaking him for 2k a month … yet somehow not actually producing anything useful.

He has a domain name - sort of... - we still have to play the 'who really owns the domain name' game with the (GoDaddy) registrar. But once that is sorted, I'm planning on aiming him at an eBay store that traffic can be directed to through a cheap as possible his-domain-name page. That should cut down on the moving parts as much as possible for him, as I do not want to have to end up maintaining the page/site/wtf ever this turns into. Since the last web project I got roped into turned in such an epic train wreck, that I may never to do any of it ever again.

I had already considered wix, but wanted to hear from a trustworthy bunch about how truly recommended it really was before sending him that way. Alternatively - assuming we can regain control of the account - since it's already apparently a full package GoDaddy show...we could just leave it there. I just hate to because their name, image, and advertisements irk me to no end..

I've got a friend with a motorcycle shop that wants a basic web page, that will not be high traffic. Are there any free web site hosting option left these days that are at leased half-added reputable/reliable?

Really like the whois tool. I've been using the SoftGears whois CLI tool for close to 20 years now. Which is kinda the problem, being almost 20 years old in can glitch a bit at times.

Is there any chance of getting your whois as a stand alone CLI utility? If you don't have time to do it, and are willing to share the code for that function, I can work with that also if need be.

If I add a command line options to cStatus ex: cStatus /t:whois and it opens the Whois tool, is this ok to you? (you could create a .cmd file and just open the .cmd)

Unfortunately, I'm looking for something that is strictly CLI that I can drop inside the %PATH% environment variable on our Exchange server etc. I frequently run into situations where I have to do troubleshooting, and I like to keep it straight CLI for speed and simplicity.

So if somebody is flooding the target with whatever, I can do a whois -r to see what the range of their providers addresses are, so I can quickly block the entire range - at the router/edge level - to keep them from jumping addresses and continuing the attack.

You gotta move fast for that kind of "game play", and a GUI just ain't fast enough...  :D

But I do love the program for the slower paced stuff, it's great for doing a LAN map to see what is where when surveying a network.

Will May 2020 be fixed before the Fall 2020 update or will the embarassment prevent that?

It's just trying to keep up with the year 2020 total disaster theme...

For a quick-N-dirty option:

ROBOCOPY:
Mirror source to target with source security permissions intact:
       C:\> robocopy [source] [target] /MIR /SEC /SECFIX /r:1 /w:1
Create a log file of screen output:
Add  /log:filename.txt /tee  to above command string.
Notes on switch options:
The /tee switch gives you console output also – otherwise it’s hours of suspenseful cursor blinking.
/R:x   Sets number of retries per file – default is 1,000,000 – Yeah… WTF?!?
/W:x   Sets number of seconds to wait between retries – default is 30 seconds – Zoiks!
/MIR   Mirrors source files/folders to target file system – However, it will also delete files/folders not on the source list, and skip files that kinda match existing files in the target location.
So if you’re restoring a burnt backup of the System or Boot partition, format it first… Then start the mirroring process. This also eliminates issues with the NTFS default System Information folder.

Ended up using this not too long ago during a ransomware recovery, that required a forced recovery from damaged backups.

It was a monolithic cluster :D ...But I got all of the clients data back minus only about 2 days of work.

(somebody opened an attachment..).

The ransomware had - somehow - managed to delete 3 years of versioned historical backups in the cloud, corrupt the local copy, and decimate the entire network … In less than an hour.

Yeah...that one.

Zoiks! What a  :D ing mess..

Well I gotta say one thing if favor of Corona...It's made service at Staples freaking Awesome!! Usually you have to track one of these clown down like you're hunting for Bigfoot. But now you can't get 4 steps into the store before being accosted by someone wanting to help you find what your looking for (and leave..). It's just like the - years ago level - service they should of had in they $&^%# first place.

I'm loving it; need a mouse; back in 5 - 48 minutes? ...I made it in-and-out in 2 … Awesome!
