And it still appears that its almost impossible to do it reliably. It's almost definitely monitor-dependent,

Could someone try making it anyway? I have multiple monitors I can try.

Win+L works great, and if you really want to log off, log off properly!

But I want to be able to keep the computer logged in to run a program after I leave but logged out when someone else wants to use it. Btw the computer can be forced to log off with the command "shutdown -l -f".

Hi,
Could someone make a program that will log out of Windows XP when my monitor is turned on? When I press the button to turn on my monitor, I want the computer to immediately log out before displaying anything.

I wrote a command line program for you in Java. It may take a minute for all of the files to be created.

ie:

Hi,
I need a program that can load a DVD and extract each frame into separate image files. It should extract them from the DVD drive itself without converting the DVD to ie: avi. The program should not skip any frames and the image format should be lossless. The filenames should contain the frame number and if possible, the chapter number.

Could someone make a program that can test whether an image contains a resized, transparent version of another image? The images I need to test contain hidden images that can't easily be found because they are almost completely transparent.

For example, the program could take this image:

and this watermark:
http://cachens.corbis.com/pro/logo.gif
and would calculate that it is probable that a version of the watermark is in the image.

I always wanted to make a distributed computing project that would use brute force to find interesting solutions to puzzles from The Incredible Machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Machine).

I found a Flash clone called The CCL Game: http://www.cclonline.com/pc/hardware/software/thecclgame/ccl_winter_game.swf

There are 10 levels to brute force.

I made a .swf file client that can be distributed. It tests tile arrangements that my server sends it and reports back whether it was a solution. However, it isn't ready to be released as a distributed computing project because it isn't optimized or secured and my server can't handle the project.

Is there anyone here with experience in creating distributed computing projects who would be interested in helping me get this project running?

A funny approach would be randomly generating MIDI files, comparing their sound to the original song and evolving the best matches by recombination and mutation (Genetic algorithms). But probably this will take ages because the searching space is too big

Sounds like it would make a good distributed computing project.

I don't think it would be a problem to require that all sounds are the same format.

I don't have any specific examples. I just think it would be a cool program to experiment with. It would be interesting to see if it's possible to remake songs etc out of a set of sounds.

I guess you can use midi as an example. All of the wav to midi converters that are available now compare tones rather than sounds. All they find is the basic notes. But I bet you could convert the actual sound of the wav file to midi with a program that compares the sounds of all combinations of 128 notes on 128 instruments.

I was wondering: does sound have a dithering effect? Like would playing a really high note followed by a really low note equal a note in the middle?

We had a number of comments that this content is not appropriate for donationcoder.com.

It is not ethical to hack into websites and it is not something we condone or want to encourage.

I don't know where you are based but in some countries admitting what you did could land you in a court case and possibly prison. (Certainly the UK and US are getting much tougher on people hacking). Just because a forum appears to be abandoned wouldn't give you any protection.

The forum belongs to a company that went bankrupt in 2001. I wasn't doing anything malicious I just made a copy of the forum database.
