I use Leechget.........

I use the freeware and it usually connects with three connections. So far so good!
It works.......... what can I say?

 "Welcome to LeechGet!

LeechGet was designed as a fast, comfortable and also powerful download manager, providing all capabilities you need to download files from the Internet quicker and simpler than ever.

 Simple to use

One of the main aspects while developing LeechGet was simplicity - every function must be integrated in an easy-to-use yet powerful interface. LeechGet uses a Microsoft Outlook-like user interface with which many users should already be familiar: a navigation bar on the left and a concise menu provide access to important functions of the program while Wizards are used to perform more complex tasks. Modern styled controls enhance the Look&Feel of the application. In addition, LeechGet seamlessly integrates in the Windows 9x/2000/XP environment and the Internet Explorer, allowing you to easily start and manage your downloads.

 And yet powerful

LeechGet provides many functions such a automatic downloading, download timer, automatic hang-up and shutdown to perform unattended downloads or uploads. A Webparser lets you download complete website with all images and scripts in no time and a history list gives you quick access to downloaded files.

 Free for private use

You may use LeechGet free of charge for private use only (LeechGet Personal Edition). However, the Personal Edition comes without support and updates and you can only download eight files simultaneously. For commercial use or just to unlock the restrictions mentioned above, you have to acquire a Premium license for only 17 Euros.

I commented about Nero 7 in the post titled Nero 6 in this same section. I purchased Nero 7 for about $5 several months ago and must report that it isn't worth it's shipping cost in my opinion.
I'm a big fan of Nero and have used it for several years so when version 7 hit the street for $5 ??? or so, I jumped.
Bad move!
I installed it and almost immediately discovered the error of my ways. I repented by uninstalling it and reverting to Nero 6.
I've been watching for a deal on version 8 but all reports I've seen are that v8 is a disappointment. I'm still recommending Nero 6 (see previous post Nero 6). With the free downloads of the various updates for v6 you can do about anything you can imagine and more. Most of Nero 6 I haven't even installed! YMMV

Both of those suites are OEM, hence must purchase with hardware. When I bought them the CD came in a cardboard jacket similar to the ones AOL used and no hardware was involved.
I recall the jackets because they had about 65 cents postage on their free shipping container. Previously the sale didn't include free shipping and the S&H cost was $6/$7???
They were making more money on S&H than on the CDs!
Clarification! I posted that there were free upgrades and I think the correct term is updates. There are several free downloads available for version 6. You can't upgrade to ver7 or ver8 for free.
There's a version 7 kicking around for about $5.00. Save your money as that is practically worthless. I installed it and almost immediately dumped it.
Version 8 is out but from what I've read that is a big disappointment too.
The deal is version 6 and then download all the updates once it's installed.

SurplusComputers is having a year end clearance sale and they have two different suites of Burning Rom on sale.
I have both suites don't really recall what either contains. Both contain the basics for burning CDs/DVDs and what is not on the disks can be downloaded from Nero.com in the Nero 6 section. You can upgrade ver. 6 to do anything that most of us would ever need for free.
I have used Nero from day one and this sale is one of the best deals I've ever run across. I bought mine for $2.99/$3.99 with free shipping. This sale is for $.99 and $.49.......... I didn't check on shipping cost?
I've purchased from SurplusComputers for years (they are 60 miles down the pike) but in the last year or so their customer sevice has disappeared. I wouldn't buy anything from them that might require an RMA because you might never get an RMA. YMMV.
Buy two......... they're small.
