You know, today just for the heck of it, I checked Help>About, and it's back to saying "License: Free License (5 days before renewal is necessary).  My name and stuff in about box wasn't saved after all even though it did show just after saving it.

Rebooting (warm and cold) apparently wiped-out the registration.

Any ideas?

Simply pasted text from license key page into registration key box and it worked.  Now it shows my name and stuff in about box.

The prior activation failure apparently occurred because the text I lifted from an AbiWord text document (of the activation key page) didn't translate correctly; too many spaces or something.

Thanks for following through.  Guess you can broadcast the update to everyone now.

Downloaded and installed dcupdater.

Via dcupdater, downloaded and installed latest ScreenshotCaptor (version now shows 2.36.01).

Entered assigned license key and got message, "Your new license key has been saved."  However, under Help>About, says "License: Free License (7 days before renewal is necessary).

Is this right?  Thought as a Supporting Member, license would never need renewal.

204
workaround is simply to run sc once as administrator and enter the key.

My login WAS as administrator.  It's the only account set up and I verified it (as the lone user account).

When you issue a fix, you'll inform users in some forum?

Attempted to input license key under Vista OS but got the following message:

"Failed to save license key information.\r\nPlease check to see if you have permission to write to the application directory.Failed to open keyfile 'C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\\DonationCoder_ScreenshotCaptor_Key.dat' ( from 'DonationCoder_ScreenshotCaptor_Key.dat')."

This didn't happen as I recall, under XP.

Help?

General Software Discussion / converting divx to dvd?
« on: June 17, 2007, 06:08 AM »
I have some .divx files I want to convert and burn to DVD.

I've tried a few freeware programs (Avi2DVD, erightsoft.com/SUPER, DivxToDVD) but with the exception of DivxToDVD (which was the simplest but failed to produce video), all were overly complex.

Any recommendations?

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Re: Backup Revision Folder
« on: June 03, 2007, 06:36 AM »
These are incremental file/folder revision backup programs mentioned in the July, 2006 issue of PCWorld:

NTI Shadow 3 <http://www.ntius.com/shadow.asp>, and
Stardock KeepSafe <http://www.stardock.com/products/keepsafe/>.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Living Room / Re: Why don't you pay for software?

Utility gained not in proportion to price charged.

For instance, just purchased via download, a copy of CopyToDVD to use with new DVD burner but only because the software was discounted 50%.

Mobysaurus / .Net Framework: v2.0 install
« on: November 05, 2006, 04:16 PM »
Hi.  I downloaded Mobysaurus v1.0.36 out of curiosity but after installing it, I received the .NET Framework Initialization Error requesting that I install v2.0.50727.

Just finished downloading that file and got to thinking why should I install an optional MS update needed for only one program that I may not even keep.

Any thoughts about this?  That is, do you know if updating .NET Framework to v2.0 will be beneficial to my system in other ways?

Thanks in advance.

Post New Requests Here / DONE: Text editor with good spell checker

I've been using Polysoft's Crypt Edit 4.1 but the program's not been updated since Y2K.

Haven't found anything approaching this.

Screenshot Captor / Re: 2.14.01 startup icon bug
« on: May 28, 2006, 05:42 PM »
do you have a special tray utility or multiple desktop utility?
No
if you uncheck the "start minimized" option, does it start normally and then let you minimize it to the tray manually?
I unchecked the "start minimized" option, rebooted, and found after the program loaded that it no longer appeared on the taskbar but also didn't request minimization to the tray, and that the system tray icon was still invisible.

I run XP Home SP2 BTW, and I've noticed that sometimes, although startup programs load, their icons don't appear in the tray.

What's odd about SC's behavior is its invisible tray icon.  Somtimes it appears and sometimes it doesn't but there's always space reserved for it in the tray.

Screenshot Captor / 2.14.01 startup icon bug
« on: May 27, 2006, 06:14 PM »
Even though I run 2.14.01, I STILL experience the old icon startup problem:
1. SC icon appears on task bar necessitating my having to close it via double-click, and
2. SC icon is invisible in system tray where only an empty space appears.

Otherwise, it's the best freeware screen shot capture app available that I've found.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Startup on task bar and sys tray bug
« on: March 11, 2006, 06:35 PM »
FYI, I ALSO set screenshot captor preferences dialog to start with windows in my WinXP Home SP2 system yet still have to close the task bar icon as originally stated.

You know, another issue is how the "crop" function operates.

One of the most useful features of your program is the ability to crop images.  However, after hitting the print screen key and clicking the crop icon, sometimes I'm simply able to click and resize the image holding down the mouse button but most of the time, I have to adjust the borders (top, bottom, left and right) manually.

Screenshot Captor / Startup on task bar and sys tray bug
« on: January 29, 2006, 05:08 AM »
I run Screenshot Captor v2.11.02 at startup "C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\ScreenshotCaptor.exe" /autorun and find that it appears both on the task bar and system tray.

End up having to restore main window and choosing "close."

Minor inconvenience yes, but cuts down on productivity.

Screenshot Captor / Re: new version e-mail alert
« on: January 25, 2006, 01:06 PM »
Signed-up for http://fileforum.betanews.com/ and got my first Screenshot Captor update alert e-mail today.

Alert was for prior update but can't complain considering the service is free and the program is updated so frequently.

Thanks for the advice.

Screenshot Captor / new version e-mail alert
« on: January 22, 2006, 05:37 AM »
Have noticed new versions of Screenshot Captor are posted rather frequently.

Is there a new version e-mail alert service or does one simply have to keep checking the program's download site?

Thanks in advance.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Preferences not saved
« on: December 01, 2005, 05:21 PM »
It happens after both a system restart (warm boot) and a system shutdown (cold boot).

Might even happen after just Windows OS restart.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Preferences not saved
« on: December 01, 2005, 04:58 PM »
If I exit the program completely and restart it (without rebooting), it retains my settings.  Even annoying "Hello it's me" bubble doesn't appear.

Leads me to think my system needs a registry tweak to allow preferences to remain.  Interesting this is, this problem doesn't occur for other programs.

Screenshot Captor / Preferences not saved
« on: December 01, 2005, 04:44 PM »
Installed latest Screenshot Captor (v. 2.05.03) and have noticed that after adjusting preferences, they aren't saved after rebooting.

Specifically:
1) won't start minimized - gui appears after program loads,
2) annoying "Hello it's me" bubble appears from system tray, and
3) screen shot folder change doesn't take - images still stored in default folder.

Might be others but those are the only preferences I've changed so far.

Is there a patch?

Have a feeling some WinXP registry setting needs tweek.
