U3 includes its own software that lets software developers (like me) tailor their apps to run on USB drives.  Nothing ever gets saved on the PC, so for example the Registry isn't touched. It also provides the ability to control licensing from the little I've read. There is another player coming into this space soon. All good stuff IMO.

Nero is already too bloated and confusing. Sonic Digital Media  LE (Roxio) which came on my recent Notebook is nothing to get excited about.

I've been using DeepBurner for CD's and it works well, but my requirements are minimal. I did try CDBurnerXP Pro mid last year and didn't much like it either. Can't recall exactly why.

I might give ONES (weird name) a try.

I wrote an article a while back about copying all your Software CD's to ISO Images and then simply mounting these when you need to do a re-install. Saves searching for lots of CD's etc. For those interested see: Software Housekeeping Definitely worth a read.

Writing good software is hard and all consuming. Staying motivated day in, day out can be difficult. I applaud people that do this as a hobby, but I can well imagine them getting burnt out. IMO this is also one of the big issues with Open Source Software.

If you use free software you can't expect lots of updates and great support. Heck it is hard enough getting this from commercial software developers (present company excepted), who's lively hoods depend on delivering "good" products and supporting them. I know many will say that lots of commercial software is crap and gues what, they are right.

Keynote and PIM users should have a look at Surfulater. It does a lot more than just save Web content.  [/plug]

If you are interesting in managing bookmarks I suggest you have a look at Surfulater. Surfulater lets you save web page content, edit it, cross reference, add notes, search etc. as well as acting like a bookmark manager. Web sites and pages come and go, so for any important information you are far better to save it permanently to your PC, which is what Surfulater is all about.

Surfulater works with Firefox 1.5 and earlier, IE6 and IE based Browsers.

A little update for those who have upgraded to Firefox 1.5 and also using Powermaks.

Powermarks just indicated on their website that they expect to release an update by Dec 9, 2005 so that it will work with Firefox 1.5.
