Hey Tim,

What do you think about having TAB perform the same as Enter?  I keep finding myself pressing TAB expecting it to go to the next line (maybe it's the table like layout).  I can't see that TAB has any other function in Fentwiss.

Yes, that's done. You'll see it in release 0.8 or later, which I'll upload shortly when I've also made a few other changes that I'm in the middle of.

I am still adding any number of conversions.
Looking forward to that.

How about frames to seconds? And/or can you provide for user-created factors?

0.7 uploaded.

1. Frames added. You can use PAL (25) NTSC (23.976) or FILM (24) and SEC (for seconds!)

Thus:
100pal -> sec = 4
574ntsc -> film = 574.57
27.5sec -> ntsc = 659.34

etc. Hope that's ok. I can twiddle it as required.

2. AUD and NZD currencies added.

When I get a bit of time I'll really try to pad out all the conversions once and for all.

A message to all DCer's who made donations to my NANY app this year. Thank you! You helped me to send $100 to our local dog rescue charity:

Hi Tim,

I hope you are well.  Thank you SOOOOO much for your generous donation - we really appreciate your ongoing support! Your money will definitely go to good use, as several of the dogs who are currently in our care have had some really big vet bills [...] Thanks again for all your help!

I found this article quite interesting:

"and the men are superstitious -- they insist that the bird must be paid or time will end."

Does this mean they predicted that nobody would donate to DC in 2012? :'( Is that why the calendar ends that year?

Ok folks, you can all relax:

Sorry for the post of my own site, but I shot from the hip when I first replied to this comment, and then mouser called me out on it  :-[

I'm late to the party as usual - thanks for the 2ft explanation, Mr Cranioscopical

Fentwiss just takes a stab at converting what you type - it doesn't mind if you're asking for nonsensical conversions at all!

You used 'f' which is Fahrenheit, so you're converting a temperature into centimetres; so -1,666.67 makes as much sense as anything else ;D

Oops, I forgot to include the quote I was replying to:

Does this mean they predicted that nobody would donate to DC in 2012? Cry Is that why the calendar ends that year?

Everything will be explained on Thursday the 5th of January, 2012...

And a Happy New Year to you - and all DC members in fact. User-defined conversions is a sexy idea.

For the moment, what do you need for frames -> seconds? Both PAL and NTSC? Are there others?

86
Tim, is FentWiss in release state?

Sorry - been away for a few weeks. You can call Fentwiss released, although I am still adding any number of conversions.

If you had to pick just three words to describe yourself, what would they be...?

And what do you think are the three words other people would choose to describe you?

On the assumption I get a mug again this year, I really have to add my little squeaky voice to the request for a new image.

91
Speaking of which, can I get my title updated to "Lord of all Creation?" "Coding Snacks Author"  8) somehow?

92
As with db90h no doubt, often times I think to myself "pfft, I could do that" when a small challenge comes along. And about half the time I'll give it a go.

But even as a programmer, I find myself relying on DC for quick solutions similar to this rather than always rolling my own.

In this case, I wrote this one becuase I knew I could do it pretty quickly and with the right sort of balance of time spent / satisfaction and knowledge gained. And the fun of tinkering with Regular Expressions.

And what has really helped is, Quidnunc, you're a pleasure to deal with as well as a generous donor

General Software Discussion / MailStore Server - gotta vent
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:49 PM »
I've been fooling around with this for a few days now (thank you, Carol) and liked it so much that I decided to buy a license.

It's just for me, but there are features of the "server" version that I feel I must have. The indexing and searching is first-rate, I can get to 15 years' of emails from anywhere, and it solves a long-standing issue I had with Lookeen causing my Outlook to shoot to 100% CPU. Nice!

So I asked about a license:

Unfortunately we have to inform you, that MailStore Server can only be ordered according to the official package sizes with the respective minimal amount of 5 user licenses.

Thank you for your understanding."

Expletives
Actually, no I don't fucking understand.

What the hell?

But anyway, I really want this thing, so I bought the 5x license bundle for $190.

Opinions and comments appreciated!

 :-[

But I'll take it  :D

There you go. Next time you run, you'll get build 0.2 which includes numbering thus:

00001. Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend; a highly successful scholar,
00002. but also dissatisfied with his life,
00003. and so makes a deal with the devil,
00004. exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
00005. Faust's tale is the basis for many literary,
00006. artistic,
00007. cinematic,
00008. and musical works.

96
Yes, that is exactly how I would like it to appear but I'm not sure what you mean by 'formatting the numbers'.  Do you mean just as numbers-1 2 3....or in some other way-e.g. Roman numerals?  If so just plain numbers will be fine.

Some examples, all of which would be equally easy:

1 sentence
1. sentence
1/ sentence
(1) sentence
001 sentence
001 <tab character> sentence

etc. etc.

97
Extremely simple to do, in fact, so no problem.

Literally like this?

1 blah blah blah blah blah,

2 blah BLAH blah blah-blah.

3 bla blah blah Blahhhhhh blah <long line>
blah blah blah.

4 and blah?

How would you like the numbers formatted?

98
Ah ha! Well that's excellent news and I greatly appreciate the feedback and kind comments...

... and the generous donation!  Thank you kindly

If you need any tweaks or twiddles just let me know.

99
Later I'll put this in my coding area, with a proper little write-up, but for now this URL:

http://head-in-the-c...m/game/Scissors.jnlp

... will launch the program for you. You may get a warning that it's signed by an unknown publisher. That's ok, it's me

Instructions:

1. Select and copy the text that is to be re-formatted so it's in your PC's (or Mac or Linux box) clipboard
2. Click the 'Paste' button or use Ctrl+V in the top window
3. Click the 'Go' button
3a. Go "ooh" and "aah" in admiration (optional step)
4. Select a subset of the results, or leave everything unselected (which gets you all text in the results area), and click the 'Copy' button - your formatted text is now available on the clipboard to do whatever-it-is-you-need-to-do with it.

How's this:

screenshot0048_2011-11-26.png

You just have to enter the punctuation or other characters at the top, and dump your text into the upper pane. Clicking go produces output as shown.

I added some convenience buttons for clearing, copying and pasting.
