How about a circle of volunteers? If a group of us elected to update this thing, and one person, even just once a week, made a few mods and then passed the baton to the next person for next week, I'm assumning it would not be too bad to maintain and soon get in shape.

Even in its current form, it's not a bad basis for a new landing page, especially if it linked to all DC's own apps.

Why is this thread dead? It's excellent - or could be. Surely this could serve as the basis not only for reviews, but also for 'what's here on DC as donationware'

Can I just make a comment about the word "alot?"

It's not a word at all  :o

Something changes language overtime. Sometime hence, "alot" shall be altogether alright if it's not already.

I do hope you mean "all right" old bean  ;)

Hi - that's an old alpha version you have there, that needs to be updated quite urgently.

You can always find the latest build here!

Somewhere I missed the referral over to the other topic.  My mistake.

You might want to disable the link in the OP HERE!! and put a link to the other topic so people don't stumble here and get the wrong one.

Yes I just did that very thing, thank you. I wasn't even aware you could still get to that ol' build 81.  :o

Huh, I am getting a popup message on startup that v....81 is expired, but 81 is the version in the Original Post (OP).

Confused.

Does this do an internet version check at startup?  So.....help?

Tomos, as extra incentive I have a couple of people here who just piped up and voted for your review.

lotusrootstarch, your time has come!

Now is the moment to drench us with your carefully hoarded golden shower of secrets that none other can divine.

Hi timns, I absolutely love tyour software.

Anyway, the '@' character doesn't seem to work as a mnemonic (i want to use 'g@' as a mnemonic to quickly enter my gmail address), is there a reason for that, or just something that you could add in the future?

Hi there - and thank you for your kind words and contribution! The "@" is not specifically blocked - and in fact it should work for you already. I myself have such Replacements as 't@a' 't@n' etc, which expand into my email addresses.

I'll do a bit of testing for you in case there's some weird bug in there.

Also I'm facing the same issue than cranioscopical (the taskbar icon that keeps there and does nothing).

Anyway, I love this software, I ditched my custom Autohotkey script as this seems way faster and easier to add more words :)

Can you tell me which OS you are using please?

Nice read.

Is this some kind of PIM for small company's, so the contacts with suppliers and customers gets stored centralized?

So it's not really for a user to use in his private environment?

Well a single user could certainly get good use from it, but mainly if you are trying to run a fairly complete service: what takes it beyond PIM is its Help Desk and Sales-oriented features (tracking leads and opportunities, forecasts and contracts)

I think it's probably possible to pick some good points from this thread by now. We're a democacy (of sorts) so how about putting some of this stuff to the vote?

I'm pretty sure most people would agree that we could use a page that presents DC's software in a more cogent manner, and I also believe that's in progress

I also think that the wiki approach of collating some of the useful knowledge that tends to get smeared throughout longer threads is a very good one

Perhaps we could do a post-fundraiser too. How did it go? What did we learn? Did it pay off? Did we attract a lot of new members?

As for upgrading our Camry from the 2000 to the 2011 model: as long as we can keep the handsome paint-job, enjoy some *useful* new gadgets, and then get pay-off with improved fuel efficiency and reliability (did you see what I did there?)

My pet peeve that drives me batty is hearing people (that are supposed to be somewhat intelligent, or at the least sentient) screw up number agreement. e.g. "There is 20 posts above." Ahem... "are" perhaps?

1. Not 1. 1. Not 1. Pretty simple, or at least you'd think so.

One would :)

I have that feeling of deja vu... there was a similar thread recently and I think we mentioned such things as XSLT

I bet there's a few folks who could give you a hand with setting up a stylesheet, and once it's all set up, re-use and customisation should be a piece of cake. While falling off a log.

i vote for b -- there are lots of regex tutorials already.

^You c(a)n never (h)ave enough (i)nformation on (regex)~! Regu(l)ar expressions are more than just a tool... They are divine instruments deserving of praise and worship~(!) :D$

Hail to you too! That was clever :)

It was a pleasure - I just hope it really is helpful to someone. There are a lot of CRMs out there as we all know, but when you really start focusing down on the specifics, a lot of the systems fall over quite quickly.

241
i love seeing the new or rare faces posting on this thread, hi bootz and jwell200, and epopuI and others

It's like Pokemon - gotta catch 'em all!

On DC? I couldn't really find anything except quite a few 'chatty' threads.

243
Can I vote for both? If yes, then:
 a) +1
 b) +1

(OIW: Yes I'd like you to do both :D)

Yer killin' me here!  :D Ok, I'll give it a go. Looks like there are some spare slots still  :(

244
Votes please: my how-to will either be:

a) "How to work with simple regular expressions" with a lot of (I hope) useful examples and recommendations and maybe some source showing use in Java and Delphi which may lure in some coders

OR

b) "How I use Skype when monitoring critical applications on remote PC's and have it message me when something nasty happens"

Whaddya mean neither of them sound very exciting?  :P

I think it makes more sense than starting a new topic with each new release.
But my major gripe about these new posts is, that there's no download-link provided, nor a link to the main post...
I think maybe the problem here is that there's no central point for downloading timns software. Maybe it's time an account in the dcmembers server is set up? How about if you gave DC updater a try, timns? ;)

Yes mouser was talking about that with me a short time ago. At some point I'll 'bring it into the fold'

I'll clean that up from now on.

Passing on surnames is crazy because unless you're the first generation it gets completely out of hand. If my great-grandparents did it for example I'd now have a stupid eight surnames.

After about 27ish generation peoples name would need a gigabyte of memory each  :D

Ah but then you can compress!

launch each of my browsers 5 times in a row

Clearly, you have too much time on your hands.

Guess I'm sticking with FireFox for now.

On what are you running it, Watson?

Good one. This is Vista-32 on a pretty high spec PC.

By the way, I'm not trying to start a browser war! This is purely in the interests of science.
