Have you seen this site? Links to lots of virtual pet games.

http://www.virtualpe...m/vp/links/links.htm

Virtual camel anyone?

1153
Argh :) You need to watch out, throwing puns like that about when we're nearby... or we'll eagle-y seize upon them and use them in the strip.

1154
One of those links at the bottom left will, of course, be DC :)

BTW did anyone spot nudone's terrible visual pun with his choice of wallpaper for the site?

Thank you one and all. What can I say except that nudone is the powerhouse of the team... I just crank out something that I hope is a good gag and let him run with it.

Very happy we teamed up: thanks mouser, and yay for nudone.

Nick's site is really interesting. Someone should hire him to design the next big-budget sci-fi spectacular...

... and I want a Go-Rilla for my very own

Just updated this program. I realised it was still built with debug, so a bit flabbier than it should have been (ain't we all?)

...but more importantly, http://timns.dcmembe....com/ShowVolume.html will now show you if you are MUTED.

mmmf!

Yes, my upload was kind of slow. My own fault really, there were about 12 million bmp files in a folder I accidently dragged onto the ftp transfer.

Super-small CPU and hard disk monitor for your system tray... or a small window on-screen.

Here's the page:

Enjoy. Well, it's not exactly very enjoyable. But maybe it's useful.

« on: March 11, 2008, 02:34 AM »
Yes, sort of.  Have you written something similar then? I'd love to see it.

The algorithm I used treats each blob as a circular field - when 2 or more blobs get close enough, the fields add up to (or beyond) a trigger value, after which I assign a colour based on the sum of the fields' strengths. I dug the idea out of Foley and Van Damme a long time ago... probably when most of the readers of this forum were still sperm.

Anyway, I'll provide the source when someone asks for it, by all means. I'm trying to get interactive here, man!  :D

Evening all,

I just uploaded some old old code that I wrote which models blobby things bouncing around and merging / splitting. Think amoeba or those old lava lamps.

I'm putting it on DC because I always wanted to use this effect in a game but lacked the imagination to come up with anything. The source code is freely available to anyone who asks, in the hope they will be able to do something clever with it where I could not!

That's correct... I created the topic first so I had a reference to put in my "discuss now" link on the new page.

Boy, you guys are quick off the mark.

Hello folks. Isn't it great to have DC back online?

I have just uploaded a tiny program that shows you the current volume of your sound card. I believe it will work with most hardware, but no guarantees of course, given the freaky kit that is out there on some of your PC's  ;)

But it works on the PC's I have here anyway :)

You can grab a copy here:

« on: February 28, 2008, 02:48 AM »
Ok, for now you can do this:

In the CluGrid installation folder, there is a sub-folder called 'data' containing four files.

  • Unzip the files with the password #asm
  • Edit the XML to your heart's content
  • Re-zip the files wth the password #asm
  • Rename the files to back to .adf

The content should be fairly self-explanatory.

If you make a mistake with the XML format, the program won't run, so keep a backup!

Later I might add mouser's idea of a little dialog where you can add your own names etc. Let's see how many donations come in first

Thank you for the kind feedback - and the observations. I worked on the game part-time quite a while back before releasing it, and I'm not at all surprised that there are some "funnies" in there (for want of a better word).

I'll be happy to create you a custom version for your colleagues - the program loads the text from an encrypted XML file at startup so it's a piece of cake. I must have been prescient when I set that up

... although don't ask me why I encrypted it!

Anyway, all I need from you is the list of names, and any amusing / embarrassing / sarcastic / in-joke type situations you'd like to see them in. Or if you're feeling all XML-ey you can do it yourself, the format is very simple, and I can tell you how to encrypt.

In fact that's a general offer for all you marvellous DC members out there - get me the text and I'll do anyone a Kustom Speshul CluGrid.

That was the problem with those clunky old DOS games eh? No multitasking so music was a prerequesite.

But how about launching Winamp to go with your game of Deductoid, and enjoy the music of your choice?

timns

ps Have you noticed how all software mp3 players are VERY similar?  :D

That's really odd... I just downloaded to a virgin PC and it's definitely 1.0.0.10. Would you like me to email the file to you?

Take a look at the top of the splash screen, or the Help->About. Does it say 1.0.0.10? I didn't change the install file name since the pad file etc. would also need to be changed; I'll get around to that later  :)

The installation path shouldn't make a difference but I will check of course!

VerticalHeight=0 relates to a 'spare' setting that I never used. It's just hanging around in there in case I needed it ;)

The most important thing is... you seem to be ok to use the game now?

Thank you. It's a good suggestion, if I can come up with a neat way of doing it... I'll have a think over the weekend.

I appreciate the feedback.

Is there a chance you may be running an older version of the exe? The data files are packaged separately so would still work. I just checked my version and everything that you mentioned is still ok here

If you want to check, your settings are stored in ...\Program Files\Altura\CluGrid\Players\<whatever your player name is>.ini

Maybe you could try creating a new player?

Unfortunately you're stuck with the splash screen, but I have disabled the hints when they are switched off in the Tools->Options.

Anyway, what I have done is upload a new CluGird with build number 10 so you can be sure you have the latest.
