General Software Discussion / Re: Anybody Know About DiskTune?
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:55 PM »
Since app. has no bugs and/or too many annoyances, it seems to me that there aren't reasons to do too much updates.

Puran Defrag e.g. is a very good defrag that no needs to be released always. To DiskTune is the same. I don't upgrade ever MyDefrag - even the oldest versions are reliable and effective.

There is very little reason to remove a few extra bytes, because of the increased risk.
I agree. E.g. to delete all .bak files could mess with your Office.

I use:

- To clean: 1. CleanAfterMe in a diary base (command line: CleanAfterMe.exe /clean CleanAfterMe.log, shortcut in quick launcher); 2. Eusing Windows Washer; 3. Eusing Registry Cleaner.
- To  track installations and uninstall: ZSoft Uninstaller, that does an excellent work.
- To search: RegScanner to registry; SearchMyFiles to files (both from NirSoft).

BulkFileChanger by NirSoft is useful and interesting also:

  • BulkFileChanger is a small utility that allows you to create files list from multiple folders, and then make some action on them - Modify their created/modified/accessed time, change their file attribute (Read Only, Hidden, System), run an executable with these files as parameter, and copy/cut paste into Explorer.

Similarly, System Explorer (found at Gizmo's site) looks like a useful Task Manager replacement. My biggest dislike so far is that I can't get its information window to stick, which is occasionally useful.

You can do:

View > Always on top
You need restart the application then.

System Explorer has a nice tray icon'tolltip.
