That first one is cool!
Reminds me a little of Nitzer Ebb (example)
but, this is a compliment, trust me.

Actually, it sounds a little more fresh & of course there's no shouting like NE.
This can get old after a while. Your brother's creation is much more versitile.

Very nice!!!

;D I'm still working on "insert image", so submitting something bloggable would be a freak accident, at best.

I think Ehtyar's article link applies to VAIOs sold worldwide (?). It mentions 400,000+computers, whereas the link I submitted from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission only mentions 40,000+.

So, this is more helpful.

In case you cared, looking up material on "rolfing" is what led me to Mary Bond's book... then I found Esther's about three weeks later.

Has anyone reading this thread been rolfed?

I was rolfed about 10 years ago, and can still feel its effects. Not only was it a tremendous help for pain, but my posture was changed for the better, with really no effort on my part...and those were the minor changes  :) .

The last time I needed to do some heavy-duty hole punching, I bought this.

It's very smooth & easy to use, but I was really amazed at how quickly this thing rips through paper, heavy-duty plastic, wood...I even used it to route electrical cords from the bathroom (other gadgets charging  ;)) to the next room.
Funny, I have a DeWalt, too, but this "craft" drill feels more powerful.

General Software Discussion / Re: Outlook 2007 isn't so bad
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:05 PM »
Hi Carol,

If by chance you don't find BCM in Outlook 2007 useful (I  couldn't tell from your post), you may want to consider uninstalling it.
I got rid of BCM within a day of installing it. It just ruined Outlook. It ran like it wasn't even ready to be a beta release, let alone an expensive addition to Office. I was really disappointed.

I don't remember if speed was an issue or not, but now, Outlook runs very fast for me (and my file is huge).

Good luck with this, I know it can be frustrating!

i'm not sure what the goal of the list is, but if i were to fix it up with the goal of it being more helpful i would:
-delete all dead projects
-delete version data (since we're looking for the most recent one + less maintenance)
-change title in something boarder
-fill in all "last updated" data
-create subsection based on "software type"
-create subsection under that based on "types" (abc order is very unhelpful)
-based on "last updated" data, delete all outdated programs (hmm, say minimum was last updated within 1-2yrs)
-alphahumanoid841 (September 01, 2008, 01:39 PM)

Great idea!
Don't forget to let us know when you've finished bringing it up 'to code'!

In the meantime, perhaps you could try this program.

 :) Have a nice day! :)

!!!
CleverCat, thanks for posting these! These views are so inspiring. I love the bricks, too...we don't have them in California, and so the architecture here looks rather flat and uninteresting, in general.

4wd, your photos are awesome, too. I especially like the one showing the lights at night.

It's fun to see all these different places!

That pic is the view from my Bathroom door into a courtyard....

CleverCat,
Are you saying that your bathroom exits to a courtyard?
Actually, even if it's just a window that opens to the courtyard, how very, very nice!

Not insane, at all. Actually, that is very sweet!

Here's some insanity for you:
I met my boyfriend (he's in France, I'm in California) on a computing forum with no intent to meet (in person).
When we first started video chatting, after writing for a few months, we had so many verbal misunderstandings that we got very shy and often used text chat with no sound, as well.

It helped a lot. This way, we learned to match facial expressions with written ones, and it made the conversations go lot smoother...

Now, when I yell at him, he understands perfectly  :P

That's correct.
When I restarted, it automatically re-installed itself.

Thank you, Curt, I knew it couldn't be so black & white-even my OS (or rather, its media player) offers to 'rip' & to 'burn' & the 'line' between what's legal and what isn't keeps getting more blurry as I read.

I am in the US. I had a look at yousee.dk.
I really like the idea behind what they're doing (I just can't navigate)  ;).

I wiki'd everything from CW's response and ended up at the Gracenote web site fairly quickly, but the whole thing is too tedious (with the exception of yousee.dk).

So, I've decided to just copy the Christmas CD's to my external drive & send my little sister the originals.
I hate CD's (not meant to be handled by humans, unless they're being tossed, that's always fun  :P) & I won't take nearly as good care of them as she will!

Thanks for your reply  :) all the same.

289
Forget it! :D  :D  :D
The software is oovoo, and they've yet to respond to this morning's plea for help.
Not the first request, but I have a feeling it was an automated response today, this was rather frustrating.
My boyfriend found something today on a French computing forum.
He told me to uninstall my realtek sound card & restart the computer...
...and...
IT WORKED!
(He'll definately get some credits, but of a different nature, I'm sure)

YIPEEEE!
Thanks again for all who responded!

did you (or maybe Sony prompted you to) update anything before this loss of sound? if you did, then check out the website below and try to restore the updated components. especially the Sony shared library. :)

http://esupport.sony...;UpdateType=Original

Thank you for the link. However, when selecting my OS, Vista Home Premuimm the following is displayed:

"There are no original drivers currently posted."

I updated my video chat service and later that day I lost sound.
But the service support was of no help, so I uninstalled their program.
That was useless, the problem stayed.

The Sony e-Support web site directed me to a file that would not download correctly, (xyz.exe not a valid windows file) & upon contacting them they said that meant I had a virus.
Ran AVG & came up clean & went back to the site & just guessing, right clicked on the file and used, "Save Target As" &  it worked fine. It just didn't resove anything.
I was under the impression that Sony & MS had more of a say as to what drivers my pc would use...aaagghh!...it's hard to explain...I didn't think my video chat software could take over my entire computer!

I guess I'll just call Sony, then post the rest of this awful mess in Company Complaints.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Internet sound, only ??!!   :o
So a CD/DVD/MP3-whatever local file is played back in the normal way?
Yes.
Please start out by installing another internet browser, just to check who is causing the error.
I did. FF says I need to install flash, IE is fine, plays whatever I want, just no sound.
Now, my volume control on the taskbar is gone, & when I go to put it back, the checkbox is unchecked and disabled, as well.

AVG says no virus, also.

That is because, when talking to a client, one has to change out of pyjamas!
-cranioscopical (August 28, 2008, 06:37 PM)
What are pyjamas? 8)

I'm not entirely sure, but I think they're what you wear when you spend a lot of time playing video games. Chris, am I right?

;D Very nice u-tube, didn't even need sound.
But, aren't teenage boys supposed to have *other* things on their mind?

Way back when, around 1983, as I recall, video games were something a guy played at the surf shop - yes - on an Atari - while waiting for his friends, or say, a *girl* to show up. Now, I guess it's a lifestyle (?).

General Software Discussion / Can someone help me restore my sound?
« on: August 28, 2008, 09:10 PM »
It's not really software I'm after, here, more like a fix or...I don't know!
At the beginning of this month I lost internet sound, only.
I have a VAIO VGN-CR290.
Tried un/re installing flash, no help.
Sony, no help.
Microsoft knowlege base, no help.
Some regedit entry I don't remember, also of no use.

GRRRR!

Somebody please help me if you can, I can't afford to break *yet another* computer.

Thanks!

(I forgot to say that my Realtek drivers appear to be up-to-date & that yes, I've checked my volume settings on the VAIO, windows, & whatever I'm trying to hear something on like u-tube, etc. If I put my ear to either speaker and all volumes are on full blast, I can hear a teeny tiny bit, nothing more.)

Old enough to know you left out 'workstations'.

...and the ones that don't really care about the "risks" involved in it...

What risks?

Just a teen's perspective...

Thanks! Having no kids of my own, I can really appreciate a teen's opinion.
Who wants to be an "eighties throwback", anyway? :P

Living Room / Video chat: Why don't people like it?
« on: August 28, 2008, 06:17 PM »
I'm curious:

Video chat is something I used to dream of (remember Blade Runner?).

I video chat with my boyfriend in France all the time.
But my girlfriends, although they have the means to video chat, would rather talk on the phone (???).
And my 2 sisters (one 3,000 milles away) have simply no interest.

Even a former member of this forum who had a SkypeMe button on his signature (in email, at least) suddenly *disappeared* when I invited him to video chat.

What's up with people?! The future of communication is here, why do people shy away from it?
Is there still an 'adult' stigma attached to it?

So far, all I can come up with is that you can't readily multi-task on video chat as well as on the phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks  :)

OK, forget the WaterPic, I changed my mind.

*This* is by far, the best gadget I've ever owned... 215 degrees F at the tip, it is a bug zapper, stone cleaner, all-metal cleaner, plastic cleaner, *name it*. Whatever you steam clean feels nice and warm & completely clean & smooth afterwards.

It's too bad the infomercials have gone overboard, though. The make steamers look like a joke. For example, I wouldn't clean a toilet with a steamer & it's yet to successfully remove glue residue left behind from price tag stickers. Also, this steamer does not do a nice job removing wrinkles from clothing; I have separate steamers for that.

nonetheless...

mine is on all the time and gets used constantly! Someday I'll make a list of all its uses (sooner, if anyone else here has a steamer & they think it is not useful).

A little late, but I finally decided to drop this idea.
CW, Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this so clearly.
