Yes. Folder Guide also seems very good.

The advantage of Flash Folder is that the menu is in the box, where Folder Guide requires a visual search for the menu after right clicking, but both are great suggestions.

Much appreciated!

Thanks!

hmm, just looked.
Isn't this all overkill too?
I just want a choice of favorite directories added to my "save as" dialog.

Interesting.. I looked at Filebox Extender, but seems like it might be overly complex. Any other suggestions?

Anyone know of a plug in for Firefox?

Finished Programs / SOLVED: when I download files.
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:46 PM »
When I download files, sometimes I want them to go to c:\download, sometimes to F:\in, etc..

Is there a utility that adds some favorites to the save as box, so I can select from one of my top favorite locations to save to?

This is also nice, but I don't get to set font *size*?

That does look very promising. Thanks!

Nice idea, but how to configure a font in notepad just for this??
Not sure it offers that.

If I change font in notepad it remembers that new font for all instances.

General Software Discussion / right click to print a file?
« on: April 29, 2011, 04:36 PM »

I'd like a small utility to right click a text file to print it, rather than having to load up an editor each time. I'd like it to remember my preferred font and size..

Anything?

General Software Discussion / copy selected directories
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:07 PM »
I use Syncback and Synctoy, but I'm looking for one like that where I can tick a box of directories and files I want copied to a backup drive, and have it save that list for next time..

I could do with Robocopy and a batch file, naming each one I want copied, but is there an easier (graphical) way?

Unfortunately, redirect has to be clicked manually each time.

Eudora does not do this. It cannot retrieve mail and then resend unattended.

The problem wtih Foxmail is that the install program was all in Chinese too, and it asks me questions I dont know how to answer. It seemed to take over as default email for mailto links, as I probably said ok to that.

Some app must do this!!!

Eudora. (Windows)

I can run another mail program on a different machine that checks mail, and forwards, if it can do it all unattended.
Any suggestions?

Can I can set up a gmail account to *automatically* check my [email protected] POP3 account, and then have it *automatically* forward that email to my [email protected] address? (and leave it on the pacbell server)

UPDATE :
Yes, This Gmail scheme does in fact work. The only downside I see is that all my mail now also goes through Google's servers, so slightly less private.
Would be nice to have a standalone app that I can run locally, so still looking if one exists. I did try Foxmail, but it's in Chinese.

I think it's very similar to a connector, but I don't just want the mail in a different POP mailbox.
I want it to get messages, and then *resend* to a different email address. (my SMS address).

That feature seems hard to find.

General Software Discussion / forward email?

I am looking for a freeware app that logs in to my pop3 email every few minutes, and with a filter forwards selected mails to a different address.

(I want selected emails to be forwarded to my cell phone thru the SMS gateway.)

General Software Discussion / an app to validate email addresses?
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:59 PM »

I send emails to my opt in mailing list the old fashioned way.

I'm looking for an app to run one time on my list of email addresses that can email each one, and delete any that are no good anymore. If they bounce, I want to delete that address from the list.

It would need to send just maybe 200 messages per hour, so as not to violate my ISP limits.

Anything exist?

Much appreciated.
Networx seems to do it without needing SNMP, but I'm still be curious what that is..

I tried PRTG Traffic Grapher, and it looks for machines that are running SMNP, but it finds none.
I'm not really familiar with SNMP, so maybe my XP home network machines don't have what I need to use this?

This is just a small home network with a few machines on it, and would be nice to see what each person in the house uses.

General Software Discussion / monitor network usage?
« on: July 15, 2010, 01:11 AM »

I'm looking for a freeware program that will look at each machine on my home network and tell me how much bandwidth each is using right then.

We often have multiple machines online, and I'd like to see who the hog is. :)

Coding Snacks / can a network get a drive letter?
« on: November 04, 2009, 01:21 PM »

Does this exist?

I'm looking for a command utility that just allows me to assign a directory on an ftp site to be a drive letter on my local machine.

That way I can just use Robocopy to make backups from batch file to a directory on my web server.  I do see that some programs can be loaded to do it, but I'd like that drive letter permanently assigned and always available so automated backups can run unattended.
