Looks good. But really, all it has is a list of the installer .exe files, and just downloads the installer (via wget) and runs it. Nothing near as good as apt-get. Still, quite useful, and definitely a simple interface for installing software. The problem here is keeping up-to-date; you'd hope that the developers update the repositories often, otherwise your "automated bulk software installer" will go around installing old versions :P

And is that an error in the screenshot? "416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable"  :o

It seems like anyone can add new software through their web interface, which raises some very serious security concerns!
Looks like that just submits a request; I certainly hope it doesn't automatically add them.

It can install and uninstall any software in it's repositories.
its, not it's
Sorry, but that's something that really annoys me :P

General Software Discussion / Re: Userbar Generator: Cool Freeware

Glad you like it guys :).
Deozaan, I love your userbars, they're great :D

Anyone that knows Visual Basic 2005, please feel free to modify the code and send me a diff. This was my very first Visual Basic 2005 project. I'm a Linux user now, so don't use VB2005 that much any more.

If only the Save/Load Project functions worked...
3. Load/Save Project really needs to be functional!
I think a bit of the code is there, but all commented out. I can't remember whether I got it working or not. Anyone that knows VB2005 want to take a look? I lack the time to, unfortunately.

5. Maybe instead of two colors for a gradient, allow the colors to be images. This would look especially nice (if done right) for left and right images that gradually fade from one into the other.
I've got no clue how to do that, though :P

2. If I click to add/change the overlay image and cancel out of the dialog box, don't make me lose my overlay image size adjustments!
Oops, my bad :P
That should be a simple fix, I'll try to take a look soon.

Oops, I completely forgot about this topic.
I released the source a week or so ago. Take a look at http://www.dansoftaustralia.net/ for the Userbar Generator as well as the source code :D

Alright, I changed my signature :)

So Daniel15 has a link to an image in his signature, and the image is being rendered dynamically on each request, right?
Yeah, that's it :)

but I do run a lowly 1280x1024 resolution
Same resolution as me... ;)

Daniel15 -> Nice music tastes :-]
Thanks!

What about a small scrolling image?
Good idea, but I haven't seen any last.fm scrolling images (nor do I know how to code them in PHP) :P

the music list is def too long imho and you might be better off without it completely.
I changed it to only show 5 recently played tracks, so it should be better now :)
I might remove it completely later. My signature has a link to http://www.daniel15.net/ which (among other things) links to my last.fm account.

Daniel15: could be interesting enough to see how you've done it - like, static bmp backgrounds or fancy procedural stuff :)

There's no static images - The whole userbar (gradient, scanlines, ellipse thingy, text) is drawn using GDI+ :)
Note that this was one of my first real Visual Basic 2005 projects, so the code is a little messy. I'll try to clean it up a bit before releasing it publicly :)

Living Room / Question about the "spam/advertising links" rule
« on: September 18, 2007, 05:27 AM »
I was going to change my signature, but noticed this:
Do *not* post spam/advertising links in your signature or you will be banned from the forum.
I've placed links to my personal sites in my signature (as I do on most forums), and I just wanted to check whether this was actually allowed. The way that I saw it was that this is not considered advertising as such? But I'm not *too* sure, as different forums have different definitions on what "advertising" is (some only consider referral links as advertising, others consider *any* signature links as advertising)

Hmmm... I thought there'd be a lot more younger people here.
I voted; I'm 17 :)

Do anyone have any experience with Akismet? http://akismet.com/

I haven't tried it and only recently found it, but it's supposed to catch spam-posts to forums/blogs/comments, etc...

When a new comment, trackback, or pingback comes to your blog it is submitted to the Akismet web service which runs hundreds of tests on the comment and returns a thumbs up or thumbs down.

There's a SMF plugin here: http://www.dansoftau...smf-mods/akismet.htm
Hey look, it's my mod :D
To be honest, I'm not too happy with my Akismet mod at the moment. It works fine for most people, but doesn't seem to work for absolutely everyone (possibly due to differences in the server configuration), so please test it out on a test site before using it. I'm planning to rewrite it soon, although my free time is very limited at the moment. When I get more free time, I'll be doing more extensive testing with it.

Hey guys, I'm the creator of the Userbar Creator. I'm glad to see you like it  :D

I'm planning on releasing the source code soon. I've been meaning to do that for a while, but never got around to it. Would you guys like that? It's written in Visual Basic 2005. Watch this space :)
