I installed AVG 8 without bothering too much about the fime print regarding the "dreaded" AVG Toolbar that everyone seems to be having problems with.  I haven't had any worries at all simply because I use "Seamonkey" as my default browser,.. it comes from the same Mozilla stable as Firefox and uses the same engine but without all the frills and unecessary crap that that bloats Firefox so much.  Firefox was slow before the AVG Toolbar but now it has become almost unpleasant to use for many of you.  Do yourself a favour and give Seamonkey a try,.. you won't be sorry.  Because I use Seamonkey, AVG doesn't intrude and therefore isn't a problem.

I stopped using XP system restore many moons ago,.. I've been using the excellent freebie "ERUNT" since then.  It's quick, clean, simple to use and works every time.  It's saved my PC's life many times.  I make it a habit of creating a restore point almost every day,.. it may sound a little "over the top" but it works for me.  I usually delete any restore points more than a few weeks old to avoid cluttering up the system with junk.

Because I'm financially challenged (broke) I run a very low rent PC which suits my needs just fine,.. well almost !  I'm always on the lookout for good "alternative" software that will run happily on my PC but at the same time, perform the same tasks as the OE (original equipment) software.

I've replaced "Quicktime" with "VLC Media Player" and it works just fine, perfect playback with no choppy play as previously with "Quicktime".
"Adobe Reader", that slow bloated pig has been replaced with "Foxit Reader",.. absolutely perfect for old PCs.
"Abiword Word Processor" has replaced Microsoft Word,.. quicker and no bloat.

My PC is 6 years old, AMD 750 mhz, 512 mb memory,Windows XP.
