N.A.N.Y. 2009 / Re: NANY 2009 Release: Trout (audio player)
« on: July 02, 2019, 07:30 AM »
Having installed Trout in Win10Home I find that controls (inc within MiniBars) are not displayed as in Win7 and wondered if there's anything I can do about this. Seeing recent posts echoing my own satisfaction with Trout suggests that the problem is local to my machine but I don't know how to fix it.

The symbol substitution is:
Prev = 9
Play/Pause = 4
Next = :
Rwd = 7
Stop = <
FF = 8
and the volume (speaker cone) = X

I cut'n'pasted from Win7 config.ini to change fonts from MS Sans Serif to Microsoft Sans Serif to allow Trout to start-up in 1903. It started in pre-update Win10 (with same symbol substitution as above) but wouldn't start in 1903 - even using a newly-downloaded zip - until I made that change.

Wow, cool stuff you realised. :-)

Would it be possible to have the Skype DLL's on a server without really installing skype.
That way, we could create a monitoring system on servers that arn't really ours, but where we install a particulair software. :-)

Thank you!

Unfortunately skype has to be running for this to work. You can launch it from within your software, but this probably means it would have to be installed on the machine in question.

If not wishing to formally install someone else's program (i.e. Skype) on a machine and mess with the registry, perhaps the portable edition of Skype could be part of the package one puts on the server:
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/skype_portable

Haven't read through XYNTservice documentation so don't know if there's a show-stopper right there.

What an intriguing notion - very inventive!

...I can figure out why and make it a permanent fix that doesnt need the registry hack.  Thanks for the info and soon there will be a version that doesn't need this.

Ermmm, I'm sure it'll be released WIR (When It's Ready) but might that be anytime soon? (Looking for a version that runs on WinME.)

Thanks.

UrlSnooper / Re: URLsnooper refuses to start!

Posting this info in case it's a possible diagnostic aid for WinME problem.

My friend decided to uninstall URLSnooper (the recent beta) but, when selecting the program in the WindowsME add/remove function, received an error message stating that the program did not exist!

Attempting to use URLSnooper's uninstall option on the Start menu gave the same message.

Apparently, a search of some sort for URL Snooper then produced 84 items.

Anyone else with WinMe could try this latest version - it's strange that it's working on my test win98 machine.

Don't have WinME myself but the person to whom I've recommended URLSnooper has the same symptoms after doing uninstall of both winpcap and program and then installing that beta after reboot. Can you confirm version numbers so we know we're all trying the same one?
