Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: GS-Base Mini-Review
« on: August 02, 2016, 08:14 PM »
Hi,

For what it's worth, my two cents to this discussion:

1. The website and every other docs clearly state that you can log on to the download page to download the latest versions for 12 months for free. And it's clear that the page always displays the latest versions only.
(I do what I can to educate users that the license doesn't "expire".)

2. Almost all old versions are still on the website. For the full versions, it's sufficient to e-mail the support, which (un)surprisingly some users do.
Trial versions dating back I guess 10 years are free downloads all the time.

3. It's ca 2MB. Not 2TB...

4. Hope that the respective modifications to the download page will be implemented rather sooner than later. It was requested by other users and it's surely is going to be helpful.

5. IMHO captcha is easy(?). An easier registration method means verifying (addresses, IPs) 10-20 spambot submissions a day. (Unless this can be done automatically for the phpBB forum.)

Thanks,
Citadel5

Thanks for the discount, took advantage of the offer. I actually had a use for an earlier version a couple years ago, the row limit in Excel was too small for what I needed even though the calculations were fairly simple.

Excel 2013 still has a column advantage (16k over 4k, which is also Libre Office's limit) but Excel and Libre Office are both stuck at 1 million rows.

Thanks.
Rebuilding would be sufficient to increase that limit to 16K (or to 64K max, without changing the code) in GS-Calc, but verifying that there are no performance issues for various functions/actions might take much more time.

Anyway, further increasing these (row and column) limits for both GS-Calc and GS-Base is on the todo list.

(If you would like to, please feel free to e-mail me something more about the type/size of data you're
using. Just curious.)

Best regards

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: GS-Base - 50% off

Thanks. Yes, it's as the nick suggests - I'm the author of GS-Base.

Re: the default file format, this is a native/private ("partially binary") file format. Nevertheless it should be quite safe as all the data is stored in the zip file in its original format. That is, tables with records as plain utf-8 text files, memo files as *.txt or *.rtf files etc.
To clarify this better I just uploaded a page from the help file:

http://www.citadel5.com/help/gsbase/file_format.htm
(Just one page at this time.)

The supported file formats are listed on the homepage: dBase, Clipper, FoxPro, text, XML, Excel XML, HTML, PDF. (XML, PDF - export only.)

The coupon is valid for GS-Base licenses only.
