Living Room / Re: Some initial reflections on using an ebook reader
« on: August 15, 2010, 06:46 PM »
I have enjoyed reading the posts. Recently I checked out ebooks and moved from being a sceptic to enthusiast. I was able to pick up a new Benq device on ebay. It's brilliant; reads in several formats eg .txt, .pdf, .epub, .html; reads image (b&w only) and music files; wireless connection - to name just a few of its charms. An avid reader, I've just finished my fourth book on it and have installed about 30 books taking up less than 10% of the memory. A mini SD card allows further expansion.

My advice to anyone contemplating an ebook is to check out what's available. There are advantages to having an ebook not tied to a particular seller eg Kindle, Nook. There are ebooks (admittedly expensive) that allow for annotation and highlighting. Choose a 6" rather than a 5" inch screen. There is a large corpus of free ebooks available on the net. There is a free software application, 'Stanza' which enables format conversion eg .html to .txt.

Your Fonts should yield 'My Font' but where is it? It's taken a while for me to master posting on the forum, hence the delay in this.
In June I purchased my font with PayPal. Every thing went well until I tried to download. I was not returned to the download page after making payment and have not been able to find a way around this. Emails to customer service at High Logic were probably not received as no reply came. Surely there must be a way to retrieve my font over which I am assured I have copywright.  :(

Have been a member for about two years and have finally managed to create an avatar and place myself on the map. Don't laugh! Things move slowly for a confused elderly geek with poor short term memory (there's a few of us out there!) Have enjoyed the newsletter immensely, learnt quite a bit and found some useful software. Keep up the great work.

Sounds great! A bit far from FNQ though, even for a mug.
