JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove: Grids Here
« on: November 26, 2012, 12:14 PM »
I've been using GridMove for some years. Tried some own and contributed grids. I've settled down with this one, i believe it's the best:

Wow I think this is the /thread post. That's a lot of choices. Thanks for the contribution.

That did it. It's not in your docs tho: https://www.donation...r/MiniCap/index.html

Read over the docs and I'm not seeing how to capture the active window only. Tried a few things (-setfore, -client) and still it's not working.

    "c:\Program Files\MiniCap\minicap.exe" -save "c:\temp\screenshots\capture_$customdate$_$appname$.png" -customdate "$Y$m$d_$H$M$S" -sleep 2 -closeapp -exit -client

I see options for capturing the screen and the whole desktop. Seems that not turning on either of those, it'd default to just the active window. But when I run that command (with or without -client) it never captures, it just doesn't do anything (update: it starts the redbox mode, but that gets hidden by the window).

I did manage to get what I want by using -captureregselect but I'd ideally like to write a bat file that just dumps the current active app to a screenshot after a delay.

Yeah it's -promptsave. That did help, but it's still not working the way I want. Here's the more correct version:

minicap -save "c:\temp\screenshots\capture_$customdate$_$appname$" -customdate "$Y$m$d_$H$M$S" -sleep 2 -capturescreen -closeapp -exit

Two issues:

First, it's not saving files. If I use -promptsave then it asks me where to save and I just hit OK on that dialog and it works fine. But without the promptsave it won't do anything.
Second, there is a dot after the $customdate$ token, so it does "capture_20110815_092802_cmd..gif".

I'd expect the app to return an error if the filename isn't a valid filename, instead it just fails silently. Silent failures are bad usability.

I'm using this command line to save to a file:

minicap -save "c:\temp\screenshots\capture_$nicename$_$Y$m$d_$H$M" -sleep 2 -capturescreen -closeapp -exit

Seems straightforward. But when I look in C:\temp\screenshots there is no file with the name "capture...". What's wrong with the command line? I've tried running the cmd window in Admin and normal mode.

What's the OS you are RDP-ing into?

On Win7 hotkey <Win-G> is used to activate the Sidebar gadgets, so focus wouldn't go to GridMove anyway :P

I don't think that's accurate. I use Win7 on all three systems that I use Gridmove on (Home, Work, Work-via-RDP) and Win+G works on it when the RDP isn't involved.

I suspect there's some sort of delay involved. If I press Win-G then wait 2 seconds or so, it seems like I have better luck with it.

8
I can get the number keys to work in RD, but it's inconsistent. I'll try it more and see if I can see a pattern.

It does seem to be some sort of focus issue. For instance, if I use Notepad++ then win-G then 9, the number gets typed into the notepad. But using win-G then 9 with outlook, Gridmove "gets" the button press. Beyond that, no idea what's going on. With Visual Studio, VS sometimes gets the button press and other times GM does.

You're right, after looking at FF4 maximized that right side hotspot won't really work either because FF4 uses almost all of the title bar real estate for tabs etc. Chrome at least leaves about 40px of space between the tabs and the border.

I can't use the middle mouse button method because my middle mouse button is used to toggle scroll wheel mode (Revolution MX).

10
With the release of FF4 and IE9 (and Chrome, but it's always been this way), the hotspot in the upper left corner of those three browsers is used by the program itself. I suggest moving the hotspot to the left of the minimize button. If possible. Frequently when I'm trying to do something in FF or Chrome lately, I accidentally click on the hotspot instead which gets annoying.

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove: Grids Here

I made this one this morning. It's for use across a remote desktop connection in windows. I have a dual screen on the computer that I'm actually typing at but the computer I'm remoting in to has a single screen. So with the /span switch on mstsc you can span the single screen across dual screens. This grid allows you to use a connection spanned across two monitors as a fake dual screen. I just made it, so there may be some bugs :).

Stoic Joker: I think the problem is not related to hotkeys, but rather with window focus. After pressing win+g, apparently the window focus is not in GridMove's overlay, but in the other window (thus the number is typed into the window).

I can get the number keys to work in RD, but it's inconsistent. I'll try it more and see if I can see a pattern.

Nope, that takes me to a topic. "IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it".

I did end up finding it. Maybe the name should have Gridmove. Maybe I'm just not aware of how many tools JGPaiva has made :D

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Weird behavior in remote desktop
« on: February 24, 2011, 10:48 AM »
When I use gridmove in remote desktop, it behaves strangely. I press Win-G and the overlay comes up. But then I press a number and it gets typed in to the window that's active, not gridmove's number button. Anyone have a suggestion for fixing this?

I've been looking around in here and can't find a forum specific to GridMove. It would be helpful if there was one. Or it was easy to find.

Does anyone have a .grid handy that uses one horizontal and one vertical monitor? I'm playing around with this setup and can't find any .grid files that support it. I can write one, but maybe someone else already has!
