It goes wider than copyright as well, have you seen how FIFA attack anyone who isn't an official sponsor?  i.e. those Dutch supporters arrested during the game were facing criminal prosecution and jail (I am still not sure exactly what they did). I also heard that a company had to pull an tv ad after FIFA went after them it said something like "the unofficial airline for the 'you know what' tournament"

It seems to me that the best generalisation that you can say about the internet is that it massively speeds up the breaking down of barriers.... in every sense.

Whether it is the spreading of previously unobtainable information, the huge jumps in communication, the potential to educate or the pushing of social boundaries and taboos.

I am sure someone has written a white paper about it somewhere (although they are probably in jail on anti-terror charges if they did) but isn't the Internet by it's very nature impossible to shutdown?

I am sure that there are many important hubs etc but wouldn't they just be replaced/mirrored pretty quickly & in the meantime everything would just be slower?

Who would need to make phone calls on a phone anyway  :)

& what is it with this face to face calling that the media is going mad over like it's a revolution. I had that option on my first 3g phone years ago. Never used it, never wanted to.
