N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Release: NoteMe
« on: July 28, 2014, 04:10 PM »
I am about to install Noteme on a new PC. I am getting warnings that the download is harmful.
There's definitely something strange about the link:
http://downloads.van...up-NoteMe.exe?v1.1.0

And on the vandragt.com site the noteme page (http://vandragt.com/projects/noteme/) displays a BARD summary.

Could you make sure that the file on your server is actually the file I want to download?

Hi

What is the current download link for NoteMe? I get a "site does not exist" error when clicking to the download location. And the vandragt-page sends me here. Running in circles.

Any help?

Thanks and regards,
Boris

I'm sorry, late to the game, I know, but WordPress is not dead simple.
Us techies may not realize it, but WordPress is relatively complex.

I've fiddled with lots of tools, and by far the simplest for computer illiterates is a web-based tool like Weebly and - my preferred option - Jimdo. Both have basic free options so you can try most of the features without paying anything.

I've helped create my girlfriend a site for her art project and she maintains it mostly without my help. She is a computer-illiterate artist, too.

General Software Discussion / Re: Speech to Text Software?
« on: September 28, 2011, 07:18 AM »
Hi

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium will do what you need.
You can transcribe .WAV, .WMA, .MP3, .DSS or .DS2. files (copied from the help file).

The quality of the transription will depend on the device used to record the sound and ambient noise. A 50$ digital voice recorder will be a lot less accurate than an entry-level Olympus, say the DS-2400. a smarthphone should work fine, though.

And I can only repeat that I suggest the KnowBrainer Forum as the best forum for speech recognition users, old and new.

Hi

I specialise in speech recognition software, I sell Dragon NaturallySpeaking and I always get it to work with my clients.
You might want to get help on a dedicated Dragon forum (like KnowBrainer Forum, which I am not affiliated with) if you cannot resolve problems on your own or if you don't want to call Nuance for assistance.

The only viable alternative for Windows Vista or 7 is Windows Speech Recognition, but you will need an add-on from eMicrophones (WSR Toolkit, http://emicrophones....-wsrtoolkit-v2.aspx; no affiliation here either) to transcribe audio files. Everything else is probably a nice try but if I were you, I would do anything to get Dragon NaturallySpeaking working with your setup. It really gets the job done.

N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 Release: Snap DB

Just in case anybody wondered if SnapDB can be used on a mac: Yet it can, with Crossover.
Works quite nicely with a few minor bugs, but perfectly usable.

AutoHotkey / Question about AutoHotkey assignment 2
« on: June 13, 2011, 03:18 PM »
A while ago I have started work on AutoHotkey assignment two. Due to work and other interruptions I wasn't able to finish the task.

Now I've taken a look at it again and I can see that I was stuck at the problem that is described in the assignment as "a place to specify a file".

The way I understand it, I have to be able to select from the settings menu a specific file the path of which is shown in the menu. I suppose there should be some kind of "Browse" button.

I can't seem to figure out how to store the path in the text box.

Could someone please point me to the correct AutoHotkey commands? Please?

I thought about posting the problem to the AutoHotkey forum, but I don't know if that would be considered cheating. I'm just so damned honest!

Thanks,
TTP

So you are saying that everyone here who has a problem with losing their previously purchased "free upgrades" licenses are all somehow less entitled than you to express their opinions about it because You have read in Wikipedia that we are ALL wealthy?
I guess that could be considered perfectly reasonable logic... on some planet, somewhere...

Companies change prices and policies all the time. I don't see why this should not apply to the software business. Some people have lost out (as some on this forum). Others have won (well, I certainly have).
One does not have to be an alien to look at something from different perspectives.

I'm all for free speech.
I merely wanted to introduce the other forum members to a different point of view. My wording could have been nicer.

But I believe (without having read every post here) that the problem is the way they handled it - and the way they dealt with the "free upgrades" license and owners of same.

Okay, I can accept that some people feel annoyed. They were made worse off. And promises were broken.
:-\

I'm actually glad that some people have enough idealism left in them to raise a fuss about things like this policy change.
I guess I've become too callous and accepted the fact that companies will f**k you over from time to time.
I'm just not critical at all because I have profited from the change.

That will be all.

Did you have the "Keep a .bak backup file after saving enabled" option enabled?
Yeah, I did, but apparently i saved something else in the meanwhile.

Snap DB will then ask if you if you want to save (since the database has been modified) ... most folks will click yes and Snap DB erroneously saves the filtered data.
I dimly remember doing something like this. Well, the universe is winning again...

No biggie.
Anyway, thanks for the great support and and the app of course...

I don't want to join in the RoboForm bashing. I have upgraded to 7 and haven't regretted it.

I like the annual license model because it allows me to use RoboForm on as many computers and flash drives as I want. I took the leap of faith and use RoboForm Everywhere (formerly RoboForm Online).
They even have a Mac version now & I can use that too without any additional charge. It even works with opera on Windows (of sorts).

The main advantage I see in RoboForm over Lastpass is the possibility to launch login files with other productivity software (like PhraseExpress, MacroExpress or X-keys devices).

Even if there is a recession and lots of people have little money to spend, I think that griping about an annual fee of 20 $ is a bit stingy, at least when you live in country that has a GDP per capita of 20000$ and more.

Given the fact that they have always answered my support requests quickly and to the poing, I don't see why paying for their service should be a sin.

I'll be waiting for the firing squad now,

I have run into an issue.

I seem to have closed SnapDB with a filter applied the last time I used it.
Now, all I have left from my entries are the items that I had last filtered, which are about 5 out of 30 or so.

I cannot find a way to get my whole dataset back.
It isn't too dramatic and I certainly have a back-up somewhere.

Any suggestions?

N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 Release: Snap DB
« on: January 20, 2011, 08:56 AM »

I've implemented this in the next build with F2 as the hotkey (instead of Enter).

Great, thanks!

I'd like to be able to duplicate a row, too.
The way I'm using it, I have lots of similar entries that need to be manually entered (or via a few snippets that I have created for this purpose).

Can do.  Would you want the duplicated row added to the bottom of the listview or directly below the row you're duplicating?

I haven't really thought about it. From the point of view of my needs, either solution seems fine.

Thanks, I like Snap DB even more now!

Suggestion: An option to close the 'Add record' dialogue by clicking the Enter key (like it works in most apps).

Hi,

Great app!

I second Nikita's suggestion.
Though what I mean is that when I have selected a row, I'd like to edit it after hitting Enter.
I hate double clicking due to RSI.

I'd like to be able to duplicate a row, too.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Understanding Clips with URLs
« on: June 02, 2010, 04:40 PM »
I like the URL example of using Virtual Folders and have adapted it to suit my needs.

2 questions:
1. Is there a way to automatically mark a copy as a favorite if it matches the Virtual Folder requirements?

2. What is the syntax to exclude certain elements from being added to the virtual folder? I want to exclude, say, all email addresses that contain yahoo.

Pseudo-code example:
Copy everything that contains an @ to my VF but exclude all yahoo email addresses.

16
Perfect! Thanks.

17
Correct

Thank you! It works great!  :D Check's in the mail...

I almost dare not ask but the underscores and file name extensions create some problems for me. (Sorry for not pointing out that earlier.)

Specifically,
P:\Z_Systems\Favoriten\file_1.doc

should turn into
P:<Z_Systems<Favoriten<file_1.doc\file 1

It would save me from having to use the find and replace function.

Dear Coders,

I'm a non-programmer with only basic scripting skills.

I want to mass-extract file names from a folder and write them to a text file. The "\" in the path should be converted to "<". An AutoHotkey script would be great because there is a chance that I might be able to modify it.

Steps:
1. Select folder from a menu
2. Extract folder paths and convert them to my desired format:
P:\Z_Systems\Favoriten yields the following:
P:<Z_Systems<Favoriten<folder 1\folder 1
P:<Z_Systems<Favoriten<some other folder\some other folder
Mind that there should be a backslash after the actual folder name followed by the last folder name.
It should issue a warning should one of the paths have more than 127 characters. I will put in that warning by myself later.
...
3. Write these files to a text file that is saved on the desktop.
... That's it.

It would be kind of nifty if I would be able to select between files and folders at the beginning (either one or the other should be extracted, but not both).
P:<Z_Systems<Favoriten<file 1.doc\file 1.doc

Thank you so much!
