Unfinished Requests / IDEA: OCR & paste
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:43 PM »
I think of a tool to select and copy/paste text from image files.

Get-Rapidshare from previous post doesn't work now (due to changes by rapidshare i guess)
Also it has no GUI an unpacks perl runtime binaries to temp and doesn't delete them.
I've found Linkgrabber which has GUI, works through a proxy. Works with Rapidshare, Megaupload, Ultrashare & Qfile.

I've found this tool:
http://www.chouck-wa...u/get-rapidshare.rar

It's written in Perl (archive contains source too) and supports RapidShare, QuickFile and MyTempDir.
I see some room for improvements: tool retrieves download link and passes it to clipboard (for download managers to download). I think that it would be nice to pass link to default browser.
Unpacking with pre-defined password would be nice too.

Nice to see tool integrates with Firefox, but i can't get it to work
I see is "File not found", while a file actually downloads  (usual way).
Tried IE and standalone tool, with same result
I tried to understand code in rsdl.xpi and found that it opens a new window and supposed to work with  "rapidshare://" URLs (i don't know javascript or XUL well, might have missed something).

http://rapidshare.de is ad-financed file-sharing service with somewhat confusing way to download shared files. Basically, many users has to do same repetitive and useless tasks.
When pointed to a download link, rapidshare user must select if he is a free or premium user, an from this:

<form action="http://rapidshare.de" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="uri" value=" [same download link here like only relative, i.e. w/o hostname] "><table border="4" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5">
Choose download-type</b></td><td align="center"><b>Free</b></td><td align="center"><b><font color="green" size="3"><b>PREMIUM</b></font></td></tr>

i guess it's absolutely useless (why not read a cookie  instead?). Nothing is advertised on that page so rapidshare and its users won't miss anything from some automation

further, free user has to wait for final (other than initial)  download link. (anybody interested should check this weird stuff manually)
Some community of rapidshare users use same password for all shared files (.rar's), and it would be nice to have  a minimal GUI gizmo to:
1. submit that "uri" value (initial URL in fact)
2. get final download link and download the file
3. execute " rar e -password downloaded_archive_name"

GUI will be extremely helpful for new users who are often confused with rapidshare
Options to enter URL and password (possibly - path to rar.exe) are desired

I didn't find any ToS at rapidshare. FAQ doesn't prohibit automated download, just restricts general download managers (FlashGet etc.) use to premium users

Thank you

In windoze this data is stored in XML:   \Documents and Settings\[user_profile]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[firefox_user_profile]\downloads.rdf
Maybe a standalone GUI reader will make sense

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: Winamp audio FX randomizer plugin
« on: June 21, 2005, 01:22 PM »
Just thought it would be cool to have a plugin that turns on reverb or echo (etc.) at random, switch channels or modify audio balance.

i'm fairly certain that it would be easy to write a mozilla firefox extension to do this, if it doesn't already exist (does anyone know if it does?)

Firefox's own download manager  saves this data. Go to Tools-Downloads or Ctrl+J or chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/downloads.xul, select a downloadede file, right-click and choose Properties

Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: HTTP to FTP downloader

one could use some components to make pretty quickly a program that downloaded a specific single file from a web site and then ftp'd it to an ftp account, when launched.. but im not sure if that would be useful. maybe you could tell us a bit more about how you would want to use it, and more details..

No, that sort of thing i could script myself...
I need some kind of *request proxy* that will download files directly to specified ftp server
it will have to send a GET HTTP request and emulate FTP server requests to download files to server
I need this kind of client to d/l some big temporary files to my remote hosting, cause i don't have broadband and shell access to host

To hang up dial up connection, enter in command line:

rasdial [connection_name] /disconnect

You can make this a .bat/.cmd file and place on a desktop, taskbar etc etc

IDEA: App to create Self installing DUN connections.
user who breaks there own DUN could run .exe and fix their own dial up connection.

SP Dialer ( http://www.spdialer.com ) creates and removes DUN connections with ease.

i'm not familiar with DUN - maybe you could give us some links to some pages that describe what you have to do manually, similiar programs that already exist, etc. more info is needed..

DUN stands for Dial Up Networking
I hope skunkwerkz meant easy DUN connection repair tool
There is some trouble with MS DUN software incorrect installation, but all is becoming clear with some experience.

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: mix CD ripper
« on: April 30, 2005, 02:52 PM »
There's a problem with ripping CDs with DJ mixes, broken in separate tracks. Common CD rippers (i know of) don't have option to rip all tracks to single file.  Of course, mix could be grabbed with stuff like Total Recorder, but it will be great to have one tool to play and rip CD mixes.

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: HTTP to FTP downloader
« on: April 30, 2005, 02:47 PM »
I mean something like FXP client, but intended for file transfer from web to FTP server (AFAIK it'll have to emulate FTP server requests). GUI not really matters =)
Thanks in advance!
