N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Canceled NANY 2012 Pledge: Crush Turbochecker
« on: June 25, 2011, 03:11 AM »

Application Name Crush Turbochecker
Version 0.0.0.0
Short DescriptionQuick file-checking with variable security
Supported OSes Windows 95 forward
Setup File [url=http://]
System Requirementsnothing special
Author Info
DescriptionChecking Files on fresh burned DVDs or HDs is very time-consuming. All programs I know only do a perfect match check (bit for bit). In most cases a simplier check to see wether the most important files seem to be ok would be enough.
Crush Turbochecker should do this job faster than ever before (perhaps) with a variable way of security. Another reasonable improvement would be a combination with the creation of content-files for searching if there´s time enough.
(planned)Features- quick check of file structure
- quick(er) check of file content
- variable checking security
- creation of content in a text file

Screencast

Description
The Crush Sniffer creates different continous logs of several system events in Linux/Unix.
Because I´ve no deeper experience in Unix-Coding I decided to create a small but handy analyzer that can filter the most important events from these logs and to search at a click the right positions of all logs at the same (or similar) time stamp.
The tool has been created to detect illegal activities or sabotage on special systems - and it worked fine.
This program can be used to sniff the behaviour of other users on your or other computers and check out who have done what and when.
Because of this, the usage is only allowed to system owners or administrators who have the legal rights to control the sniffed systems.
I recommend only experienced users who know how to read system-logs to use this tool!

Features
  • sniffer works as a normal task from the shell
  • the results can be easy viewed with the analyzer

Planned Features
  • none

Screencast

Usage
Installation
There are two scripts: One for Unix systems (and Cygwin I think) and another one for Linux. Copy the suiting one to the system you like. Open a shell window and start it.
Copy the "Crush Sniffer.exe" to a windows system or a wine directory in Linux and run it there.

Using the Application
After logging (can be stopped with ctrl-c) you have to copy the logs (all starting with RR...) to a windows computer or perhaps a Linux computer with wine and run the "Crush Sniffer.exe" - otherwise a mapped drive with network access should also work.
The program is in german - but it´s so easy to use I don´t see any reason to translate it.
"Nachrichtenfilter aktivieren" is automatically enabled and filters unnecessary lines from the results where nothing important happened.
The button "Dateien einlesen" Reads the files. You can select one of the RR... files. It´s not important which one.
Reading and filtering can take some time - so please be patient.
At the end you can see the 4 different logs. On clicking in a window all other logs will be corrected to the nearest time stamps to see what happend at this time with the other logs.
That´s all.

All settings are in the logger.sh file hard-coded. You have to change them by hand if necessary.
You can set the names of 3 different hosts. It should be easy to add more if you like.
Maximalcountage sets the days of logging. Older logs will be automatically deleted.
The _init-variables set the timeslice being used to update the different logs.
In the greps you can change the "*" parameter to a special to be controlled user if you like.

Uninstallation
Only delete the files and folder

Known Issues
The load-process takes a lot of time sometimes - depending on the size of your logs.

Please don´t ask for further support or development, because I decided to stop the development at this state.

Screencast

Description
The Master Control Program is a small tool running in the background that monitors all tasks and programs.
After making a snapshot of all running processes new ones will be terminated and tracked in a deletion list.
So you can see and get protected if a virus or other unknown programs are automatically starting in the background without your permission to raise your security while working.
I recommend only experienced users to start this tool!

Features
  • check for new tasks
  • track, kill & autokill processes
  • flashing infoscroller in the tasklist when new processes appear
  • multiselection for most functions supported
  • create and activate a whitelist - all other tasks will be terminated
  • whitelist is protected against manipulation
  • backups of the whitelist
  • check for information of the tasks on different processwebsites
  • edit/add/remove own infosites

Planned Features
  • more speed & less CPU usage
  • loaded modules information on processes
  • file read/write behaviour controlling
  • updated files of processes are treated like new processes
  • checking for illegal processes of spyware/addware/viruses
  • send to antivirus/antispyware processes
  • direct showing/editing the whitelist
  • creating a blacklist
  • checking the process files for changes
  • process hooking for faster reaction
  • optional filechecking (big speedup boost)
  • save or print the message and process window
  • soft-termination by the windows messaging system
  • forced termination after a timespan if soft-termination isn´t working

Screencast

Usage
Installation
Only run the .exe file
!!! ATTENTION !!! : Don´t set the whitelist-checkbutton without inserting the most important tasks into it!!! The result will be a total process-environment termination and restart

Using the Application
You can select one or more tasks from the tasklist and kill, add and remove them to/from the whitelist. Activate the whitelist by setting the checkbutton.
Taking a look on the process read/write behaviour and relaunches helps you to find suspicious ones.
If the whitelist has been illegal modified or is corrupted the program will show a message and quit. So first try to replace it with the backup (.bup) file. If nothing works you only have to delete it - so a new one will be created.

Uninstallation
Only delete the files and folder

Known Issues
At the moment it´s only working on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Windows XP seems to have problems in checking the processes correct but there are users that have no problems with it on XP. It seems to be like russian roulette.

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / NANY 2010 Teaser: Crush MCP (Master Control Program)
« on: December 20, 2009, 03:57 PM »
I noticed that my other project is not very interesting to others, so I decided to do something more useful.

I´m waiting for suggestions or features you´d like to see.

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / NANY 2010 WITHDRAWN: Crush DocMerger
« on: November 07, 2009, 03:10 PM »
Ok, here´s my first idea. What about a multiple text-mixer, not only looking for differenz existances of single lines - it can also take care of existing blocks with extension by some rules.
Example: You have a file that contains all your registrered keys - after some time you started a new file or made a copy of the old one with changes. Later on you have 10 files containing all your keys spreaded at different places. Now you want to merge them without losing a key. All doubled blocks should be eliminated and repeating blocks with differences shall be composed to a block containing a mixture of both.
It´s not as easy as it sound - especially implementing some kind of "rules" that are signing block as lines with "-------------" or doubled newlines but I think this could be rather useful for different things.
If you have any suggestions what other useful functions could be implemented, tell me. I´m starting it now.

Living Room / Catchy Songs
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:52 PM »
I visited some sites today and looked at some old Animations of Eric Schwartz.
Suddenly I noticed the newest entry Amiga Tribute :greenclp: (a must see for any Amiga-fan!).
The song was very interesting and I wanted to know who made this. The search led me to the Portal song "still alive".

This title is so addicting that there are hundrets or thousands of fanvideos and cover versions out there. There are videos with incredible robots, Alyx, covered by creative people and even the Composer!

I know this phenomenon only from Chocolate rain that also has been covered by Chad Vader, Stupid Mario Brothers, Zombies, Kuato and even C64 computers :eusa_dance:

Do you know others songs like these?
Please post them here (perhaps with some links to especially funny or cool videos or interesting covers).

Author Crush

Description
You can crypt/decrypt in an extremely high secure way short files. I´d say there´s currently no harder encryption existing. It´s not based on standard crypting routines like AES, Serpent or Twofish and hashes like RipeMD, SHA or others. The program has exclusive in-built cruelty-cryptonite that makes it unusable for realtime-encryption/decryption!

Features
The strength is its combination of iteration calculations, salt generation, code-shuffle algorithm that gives you the power to decide how long someone will take to decrypt it properly. This means: You can crypt a 4-byte text as example so hard that the decryption with the key could take several years on a Cray XT5 supercomputer if you like :D - the only problem is: You also need the same time to encrypt  :P

Technical information:
A number, password or file can be used as input salt. Even if you take the same settings for encryption your encrypted file will be everytime totally different. During the whole process a shuffle-index is recalculated constantly from the results and the actual salt/key. The datas are eored and shuffled with the complete salt. Shuffling means the bytes are changed in the destination datas and the salt itself and so change the next following encryption pass. If the salt is longer than the datas to encrypt it starts at the beginning with this predure - so the start position of the encryption can change every loop. While shuffling it calculates from the actual salt a new shuffle-index in a ping-pong way. This index shuffles the salt itself. It´s because of the nature of the calculation impossible to shorten the encryption in any way. You need to calculate the whole way back with all iterations to get to the original datas and to decrypt all you also need the position where to start in the salt. It´s not even the most imaginable secure way to crypt datas. Additionally it fully supports [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-time_pad]One-time pads. That is till now with right usage an uncrackable way of encryption (Wikipedia cit.: "The one-time-pad is the only cryptosystem with perfect secrecy... OTP can be used, along with a more standard cryptosystem, in a superencryption scheme).

Developer's Corner / Patent trolling or not?
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:13 AM »
The most people say they have a problem with software patents, so did I ... till now. It changed after some experiences I made during my observation of other products. They would stop the progress and new inventions and often are used only to get money without working with the help of lawyers. Now I´m affected by this problem myself and want to know what others are thinking. To understand it I´d tell you about the things that happend to me.

I´ve seen remarkable inventions that were working quite good a while till some "customers" recognized that they could patent the features and forbid the real makers to work with their own invention. Often it resulted in damages that costed the inventors in addition a lot of money. They´ve gone bankrupt and had a very big debts from then on. Now I made a very special software invention that effects other software/processes/systems/physical devices and don´t want to make the same faults. The development of the product completed for about 1 year and has been tested at some selected customers with very big success and a heavy request for it. A patent is not existing in any way till now and there´s no program from others that have a similar feature/effect. So I decided to apply a patent next year. While searching for additional fitting ideas I was designing a new program. Now I found out that some firm has made exactly the same invention. I talked a little bit with the inventors and so remarked that they don´t have patented their best and biggest idea and they had a lot of financial problems during the last year. The firm hast now (this month) gone bankrupt and closed the doors. They sold their complete software bulk to a new firm last week. So I think about including their invention as a part of mine and develop my own perfect product line. This would mean I could forbid others to use the software without any personal permission or licences.

Ok, I know it´s not a very kind way to earn money this way, but don´t forget: The biggest and newest part of the invention will come from myself. The other part is only a rather small piece from the software-bulk (only one product of five or more) that has been bought by the other firm that is very very big in business. I had the same ideas without knowing from the other product. So I decided to make the other´s invention part of my patent. A lot of firms make software-patents and earn a lot of money with it even without having an own product containing their patent only by sueing others for damages. I have a ready for starting product that I want to use on my own or later on several assistants as a service. I don´t plan in the near future to give away the software directly to customers by licence because of some heavy special problems that could appear with false usage and I don´t want to be taken to court because of others´ faults. I have a small family that has to be regarded and a lot of firms have earned a lot of money with my very special work during the last 10 years. I want to stop that and do things on my own from now on. Now money is getting more important for me than my conscience relating to scriples in software-patents.

I arrived at a decision. Now I´d like to know what you think about my plan to include the other patent in mine. If you´d have the same thaughts about money and your future, would you decided the same way or not ... and why? Please only answer with a comprehensible and logical declaration that leads to your decision. Perhaps you have some hints or tips what I should do or not do because of any unregarded reasons. I´m thankful for any following helping answer and opinion.

Living Room / Maniac Mansion Mania
« on: February 25, 2007, 03:53 PM »
One of the greatest games I ever played that led to the world of grafic adventures was Maniac Mansion on my beloved C64  :-* (rest in peace ... until I start CCS64 again  :)).

A few years ago some MM fans started to create http://www.maniac-mansion-mania.de.
Different creators started a game with different seasons each consisting of 10 episodes and even differnt special (Halloween 2005/2006 and others).
All together are about 80-90 parts till now and the developement on new adventures is still going on.
If you want to create new stories on your own, you´ll get a lot of places, animations and gfx at the resources - so you can quickly start the fun!

Of course the stories are extremely different, sometimes with following plots or continued stories connecting on former parts. The grafics are in most cases better than the original games and the stories are sometimes totally crazy. You have to solve mysteries, fight against flesh eating zombies, find killers, explore deep dungeons, fight against the meteor again, escape from edna´s love, attend crazy experiments, manage blind dates and make many many more funny adventures. You play a huge variation of figures like the meteor police, Bernard, tentacles, Ed, Dr. Fred, Britney, Syd, Dave, Sandy, Razor, Inspector Clouso, Hoagie, Jeff, Michael and other new characters at different places, times, parallel-universes and dreams with several sidekicks at other games like Zak Mc Kracken and monkey island. Some of the games are now translated to english: http://www.maniac-ma...ia.de/international/

There´s a really huge Maniac Mansion galaxy to explore (especially if you understand german  :))!

Hi,

A long time ago I decided to catalog my complete software collection. Therefore I tested (benchmarked) nearly all existing catalogers, read user opinions at shareware-sites and saw that there are very much useless features included, the most important functions were not working the way I expected and so I now want to code a new disc cataloger software. I made a list what I could implement or miss in other programs, but the best helpers are people that have experience with one or several of these programs and can help me. What functions do you like or dislike - use often or never - I´m interested in everything you say.
