When typing in a text box, what if the mouse wheel would move the cursor bar left or right when you rolled up or rolled down?  (up = left, down = right)

It would be important to only override the wheel function when a text entry box is in focus.

Maybe this is do-able with Auto Hot Key? Maybe no?

First, check out "BattCursor" and see the little tool Mr. Baumann has created.  It changes the mouse cursor to show the remaining batter life on a laptop.  However, I think it would be cool to also change the mouse cursor depending on....

  • CPU usage?
  • % Free Memory?
  • Countdown to your next appointment in Outlook?
  • Number of unread new mail in outlook?

I contacted the developer and he thinks another application/implementation would be better.

What about you guys? Can this be done with AHK?

Developer's Corner / Free Hosting that allows Javascript?
« on: January 16, 2009, 10:27 AM »
Does anyone know of a free website hosting service that let's you host your own HTML pages, including pages that run Javascript?

I have a MSN "Space" and also a Google Page, but I don't think they let me do my own html files with Javascript.

(I hope this hasn't been asked before, I did do a "search" before posting.  8))

Thanks!

Living Room / Email etiquette How to Decline Fowards/Junk?
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:31 PM »
I need some Email etiquette advice, perhaps with a technical solution!  :P

I don't know about anyone else but sometimes the people on my "Safe" email list (Safe as in not Junk mail senders) send me junk mail.  I would like an email feature that would allow me to send an official reply when people do this to me that looks like:

DELIVERY FAILURE NOTIFICATION
The email message "FWD:  Slow Dance, Please read this, don't delete!" could not be delivered to the following recipients:

[email protected]

Reason:  SPAM Email Rejection

Would it be rude for me to reply like this from my real email address?
Does anyone know of a program that could do this, or perhaps an online email service that I could send this from?  I think it would be cool if an email client had a "Polite Decline" feature that could send a response like this.

I don't want to block this sender, but I also don't want the occasional junk mail either!

Maybe I should suck it up and just ask them to not send it like a real person?  :-[

Help!, Thanks!

A friend and I had a idea and I wanted to see how feasible it sounds to you folks, and also which DVD Player software (VLC, xine, WMP?) might be a good fit:

A plug in that lets users load/save small "play sequence" files (XML) that is simply a list of start and stop play times for a specific movie?  Play "00:01:00 to 00:23:33", "00:25:55 to 2:02:55", etc.  The plug in would simply play the ranges described in the play sequence file one after another.

I imagine the plug in would have to activate after decoding an decompressing.  It should be fairly high level, I hope.

Sound easy? Sound hard?  Which DVD Player software would be the best to handle this type of plug in?

Thanks!

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / My Windows Cursors
« on: July 27, 2007, 03:16 PM »
Howdy All, as per the Help Forum I'm here posting my Windows Cursors for all to try.  I have an affinity for transparent stuff on the UI so you'll see that I use a lot of that here, (I know it's hard to tell that from the previews below.)

Feedback would be great.

The PNG's are previews of what's in the zip.

Thanks again jgpaiva for the help with AutoTile!

Enjoy

Howdy,

I've become quite fond of DC and I enjoy creating themes cursors etc and was wondering if there was a place I could share them here at DC?

Maybe DC is only a place for coding? not for sharing graphics, art, etc, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Lemme know.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Auto-Tile open windows.
« on: July 19, 2007, 06:06 PM »
How about an app that would run in the systray and each time a window would open it would Auto-Tile, (auto fit) the new window with all of the currently open windows.  So with each new opened window all of the other windows are still visible, but smaller of course, and re-tiled so that they all fit the screen.

Probably the snarkiest part would be to decide which method to tile, ... here's a suggested tile-method order:

1 window =>  1x1 ( ;) maximized)
2 windows => 2x1 (two tiled windows across)
3 windows => 2x2 (one blank tile)
4 windows => 2x2
5 windows => 3x2 (one blank tile)
6 windows => 3x2
7 windows => 4x2 (widescreen monitors!, one blank tile)
8 windows => 4x2
9 windows =>  what??? you really have 9 windows open at once!!!  :huh:

I'd imagine the blank tile would just show the desktop below.

Good idea? Easy?

Hi!, (I hope I posted this is the right forum!)

Can anyone refer me to some industry standards for what goes in the "Credits pages" for off the shelf software?  Who should be listed?  Who should not? (in-house alphatesters?,etc)  Are there standards for formatting, font... i.e. "AP" standards?

Thanks

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: 3D Stereo Windows
« on: January 29, 2007, 11:48 AM »
It would be cool (maybe useful?) if there was an app that would create two screens from the Windows UI (one for the right eye and one for the left) using the window depth (z order) so that it would be steroscopic when preceieved, with real depth-preception depth.

It would be cool if the output from  this app could be either a Blue/Red transparet overlay on one monitor (to use Blue/Red 3d glasses on) or output to two seperate monitors (VR glasses?).  (do a search in fickr for Stereophotography, most of these you have to cross your eyes on, but you get the concept.)  Windows has depth information about it's windows allready so the app should have all the information it needs.

I'm thinking the mouse would not sink down when travelling across "lower" windows.

Am I just a nerd or what?  Anyone else think this would be cool?

I have 1000s of photo's I'd like to make "browse-able" on a standard DVD player.  My photo's (mostly JPGs) are organized in folders by year and then by upload date.

I've tried using Roxio DVD maker but for some reason after adding two or three folders worth it runs out of space (4GB max?).  I suspect that it is making Full Motion video out of my still photo's (60 fps? 2 seconds each photo + transition ?)

I'd like to be able to pick a year/folder and then select play and see all of the photo's from that folder and child folders.

Heard of anything like this?

Idea:

I think it would be cool to have a Shell Icon Overlay that overlaid icons based on when they were last modified.  For example,  Files modifed in the last 7 days would have a "red" icon overlay, and files modified in the last 30 days would have an "orange" icon overlay.

This would be helpful because it would point out recent docs without having to change to "details" view in explorer.  The icon files used for the overlay could use the alpha channel to look transparent, thus preserving the base icon image.  Ideally the icon overlays and "ages" of files would be configurable.

I suspect this could be done by implementing your own handler from IShellIconOverlayIdentifier (see http://msdn.microsof...noverlayhandlers.asp)
But I'm not that advanced in my skills to do it.

Lemme know if you think this would be cool.

FYI:
I wrote a little app that renames images with Date Picture Taken (by folder), because I couldn't find anything like it on the web already.   I'll be uploading it soon.  I also added "Use Date Modified" as an option in case the photo's don't have the Date Picture Taken property.  (When used in the default mode it only renames files with the Date Picture Taken property.)

A cool shell extension that would really help me out would be when you copy files to a different folder if the files already exist rename the existing file with a time stamp and then copy the new files in.

Example:

Directory of C:\files

C:\files\wow.txt

User copy and pastes (or drags and drops) a "wow.txt" file from another path/folder.  (H:\nice\wow.txt).
In addition to the "Replace existing file" a second option is shown: "Timestamp old file and keep new file".

If the user selects the second here is the directory of C:\files

C:\files\wow.txt (new)
C:\files\wow-20041231-0823.txt (old)

This would help me so much!
