Find And Run Robot / Resource for new FARR users
« on: January 30, 2015, 06:33 AM »
Is there a place (post or sticky post) that a new FARR user can refer to see that certain plugins are no longer viable or functioning or being updated?
I am spending quite a bit of time trying to learn FARR; watched the screencasts and am moving through various forum posts so I'm not bothering others with obvious questions already answered. And, I am becoming a bit weary with doing this only to get to the end of a thread and see that it hasn't been discussed for several years now.

ex. Windows Search plugin (ws) - When I first saw this in one of the screencasts, I believe, my heart skipped a beat thinking I may have found a way to do something I want to be able to do - search the contents of files outside of WinExplorer. Downloaded/installed the plugin. However, when I call it up, it crashes FARR . . . several and now every time.

So, I went into the plugin forum to determine if there was a solution only to get to the end of the thread and see that it hasn't had any activity since Dec.2011.
Well, simple conclusion to this for me seems to be that this plugin must not be useful or no one is having any issues with it or it has been abandoned.

Before I try to resurrect a thread that is three-years ended, what might I consider doing?

This is why I ask my initial question.
Is there somewhere I could look to see that indeed this plugin - or other aspect of FARR - has been shelved . . . or what?

Thank you for whatever direction you can give me.

Any updates on this?
Thanks.

« on: January 06, 2012, 09:47 AM »
I did search the forum and saw one or two refs to this and a mention that this had been remedied in a previous update.
However, the latest version is not remembering the Highlights settings such as Transparency (255), Inner Color (off), Line Width, or Blend Mode (Normal) between re-starts of the application.

And this may actually have something more to do with initial restart of the computer rather than restart of the application itself. Just did an exit of SC and a restart of SC (without a restart of the PC) and the settings for the Highlight tool seemed to stick.

It also was not remembering the Shape (square/circle) preference, but haven't noticed that issue lately.

For the Arrow tool, the same issues are noticed also.

Have I missed a how-to on forcing SC to remember the settings on the Object edit prefs?
Is there some sort of SC ".ini" type file that is being overwritten when restarting my PC which may be losing my prefs for the tools?

Thank you,

If you tell CHS to ignore capturing from exce (Capture Options tab), does that fix it?
That appears to allow the paste action (macro) to work in Excel. But, of course, now CHS will not
capture copy clips from within Excel. Not good since I use Excel 80% of my work time.

Thoughts?

With CHS running in the background - when I try to run a simple VBA code to paste an object into an Excel worksheet, I get an error message pointing to one line of code - ActiveSheet.Paste.

on 11-02-2011.png

This macro has been working perfectly for several months now, but after installing CHS, it now fails. After I Quit CHS from running the macro will execute just fine as before.

I've been experimenting with CHS to see how I can incorporate in to my work flow, but this will be the killer for me being able to use this utility.

Can you help?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Panel losing filenames deleting

Windows XP (SP3)

And, it's not something that happens every time.
Just now, went through and Ctr+Q'd a few and the list seemed to track okay.

Wanted to post the topic in case you or someone had the issue and had discovered a solution.

Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Panel losing filenames deleting
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:29 AM »
I am using v2.95.02 and for a while I've noticed that the PANEL is losing track of the current list of captures when deleting captures.

ex. If there are 10 files listed and I delete the active capture in the display area (whether with Ctrl+Q or using Delete within the panel), the panel does a quick refresh to remove the filename of the targeted capture, but when it displays there may be only 7 or 8 filenames showing.

I have to right-click within the panel to "Update all" to get the list to show the actual 9 filenames remaining.

Seems to be a bug, but I couldn't find a reference on the board for it.

I'm confused on the help file's short statement on how to use the %t% in Quickfield.
Can you elaborate a bit?

Thanks for the reply.

Seems that this worked just fine in a previous version.

No reply needed.

Screenshot Captor / Losing Image Caption
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:50 AM »
After applying a caption via the "Add Caption to Picture" interface,
the caption is visible and appears to now be part of the screenshot.

However, if I select another screenshot in my list and then go back
to the one with the caption, the caption is gone.

What am I forgetting?

Do I have to Save the image to a file for the caption to stick?

Thanks,

Screenshot Captor / Re: Resolution change after thumbnail-ing
« on: September 22, 2010, 03:22 PM »
Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I did experiment with the various smoothing in T-Maker and the
only obvious change is when NONE is used compared to Linear or some other.
Does not seem to be any noticeable difference between the various filters
nor can I get the thumbnail to sharpen.

Done for now.

Quick follow-up to my own post.

Since I could not test the appearance of the image of the Thumbnail Maker settings
prior to final post, I wasn't sure how well it would display.
In the SC user interface, it is fuzzy, but posting the PNG attachment shows
it to be perfectly fine.
Is this another issue I'm having with SC setting or something?

My request about the Thumbnail still is a problem as you can see from the post.

A few versions back, I was not having any problems with resolution/fuzziness.

« on: September 22, 2010, 08:56 AM »
I posted a follow-up note previously regarding the wide, black border that was showing up
when applying the 'thumbnail' effect to a screenshot capture. That problem seems to have
been remedied in the latest version update. I am currently using 2.84.02

However, I'm having a very disappointing experience with this program creating
screenshots that are too fuzzy to use.

Below should be an image showing a screenshot capture prior to thumbnail'ing:

scrnsht1.png

This is a simple capture using Select Region marquee selection.

Below, should be an image showing the result after applying the Thumbnail effect
which adds the Shadow border and copies to the Clipboard:

thumb1.png

This should appear as if the resolution is much fuzzier than the image without the Thumbnail'ing.

Here is an image (fuzzy also after Ctrl+PrintScrn capture) showing my thumbnail settings:

thumbnail settings.png

What am I not understanding about Thumbnails versus the original capture?
And, why is a simple Ctrl+PrntScrn capture so fuzzy also?

Thanks much,
weg

Doing a test of inserting a "before thumbnail" capture:

scrnsht1.png

Above, should be a screenshot prior to thumbnail-ing.

Below, should be the thumbnailed version with border around and
showing the lower resolution effect.

This is end of test message.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Large black border
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:12 AM »
I wanted to add in here just a bit.

I've noticed the same problem using the same sequence of steps as davekelly
without adding the objects. I capture, go in to SC, add a drop shadow, Ctrl+C to copy
to the clipboard, then go out to an email or Excel, Ctrl+P to paste - - wide black border appears.

I know for fact that I was doing this same procedure before, perhaps this latest update,
to capture then paste directly in emails and the shadow appeared just as expected.

Also, if I use the Thumbnail command, it puts a border and drop shadow around the
image and pastes in to outside app/email just fine - - except that the resolution of
the image gets fuzzy for some reason.

Not sure if it's related, but about two weeks ago I activated SC and all of my
Preference settings were reset somehow. It was a mess and still haven't gotten
everything back to the way it was since I didn't track my settings.

My screenshots seem to have a poorer resolution when creating a Thumbnail
and I'm not sure what is going on with that.

Thanks and looking forward to the fix on the Drop Shadow.

Recently moved to a new PC, but have made zero changes to
the scripts for my hotstrings.

When entering a shortcut i.e. !s:: to initiate a hotstring,
the hotstring is entered into whatever editor or data field that
I might be working in. However, it is showing each line as if it
is being typed manually - very quickly, but not instantaneously
as on the previous PC. I can see each line of text being entered
as if by hand, one keystroke at a time.

For hotstrings that contain multiple lines of textstrings, I also
lose keyboard control. I can no longer use arrow keys or backspace
as an example. I have to initiate another hotstring that contains
only one line of text to regain keyboard control.

Suggestions??

Thanks,
weg

Thank you.

We're done with this one.

As they say in Swahili - you are a beautiful person!

Jiffy spiffy; works perfectly.
I just reattached new command buttons pointing to
the new macro and done.

Sorry to get you so involved in creating the other code.

How can I unload the 'Virtua' toolbar from Outlook's 'memory'?
It's still showing up in available toolbars even though I've deleted
it off of the GUI.

Thanks.

Almost there!
Now, the code is not setting the category in the ActiveExplorer.Selection with an email selected
but no open.

The category is working when I have an email open (ActiveInspector.CurrentItem) and
select the command button which activates the CustomActions_Categories() subroutine.

As far as adding the command button, all I'm doing is going in to Customize Toolbar mode
within either the email "Inspector" open to add to that form or with just the Outlook GUI
and adding it to an existing toolbar or one of my custom tb's.

I select the Macro category and there in the list are the two macros.
So, actually, all I need is the macro that activates the changing or the setting
of the Category label. But, need it to work in both circumstances that we've discussed.

What is this section intended to accomplish?
Set oNewCmdBar = Application.ActiveExplorer.CommandBars.Item(MY_CUSTOM_TOOLBAR__)
    Set oNewButton = oNewCmdBar.Controls.Item(MY_CUSTOM_CATEGORIES_BUTTON__)

    oNewButton.Caption = "Working..."
    DoEvents
If the button caption is supposed to change during the macro, it's apparently too fast
to really display that. I'm struggling quite a bit with learning enough about VBA to
even be dangerous.

Thank you,
weg

r0bertdenir0,

Is there a simple change in the VBA code that I can make so that
it will assign the category whether the items are selected in the
ActiveExplorer.Selection or the target email is open for viewing or editing?

I can add a command button to the message dialog that would call
the assign category subroutine and not go through the create toolbar routine.
Make sense?

Thanks,
weg

Carol,

Easy/perfect solution. I will give it a shot and try working
with the VBA.

Thanks,
weg

22
Again, I can't really use it without the code being formatted correctly.
It's not pasting properly. Everything is running together on one or two lines.

23
r0bertdenir0 - Thank so much for taking the time to reply and work this up.

What is the trick to copying the code and having the line breaks correct?
When I paste, it's essentially all on one line.

Would like to use AHK script to assign a Category label called "1 - Client - sent to"
to an email that is open and/or to one that is merely selected (but not open) in an email folder.

Is this doable? Can you give me some guidance?

PopUp Wisdom / Feature Request - Hide Tray Icon
« on: April 06, 2009, 07:34 AM »
mouser,

Seems as though PupWiz is not recognized by the Customize Notifications under
TaskBar and Start Menu Properties. (using WinXP) It shows as <no title>.

Each time I start-up, PupWiz is 'unhidden' in the Tray even though the prior session I had
told Win to Hide the tray icon.

Can you add an option to 'Not show Tray icon' ?

Thanks,
weg
