Mouser, please allow me to add my sincere condolences for your loss of your father.

I lost my father, another good man, 10-years ago today and, rather than sorrow for my loss, I now love and appreciate him even more than during his life. Thank you for a wonderful story about your wonderful father. Ficus

If its capturing full screen fine just not windows, then go to "Window Capturing 1" in options and toggle the "try to capture aero glass" option.
Didn't we go through this before?

I think we did do something like this.

I just went and checked the 'aero' button and it still fails to capture. In all these cases, the ES running in a window was expanded to full size.

I tried capturing the sreensaver running as a screensaver and it worked with the usual delay that I've been seeing on ES in this mode.

I also tried checking the box above the 'aero' box, the one that says 'if the active window is too large' with the same result. Captured a black image.

Hi, Mouser.

I just downloaded and installed screencaptor v4.15 [NOT deleting preferences/settings] and I'm getting blank [all black] screencaps from Electricsheep running in a window. It'll capture firefox and my desktop [win-7 home premium 64-bit SP-1 and with updates up-to-date] just fine.

I guess I can fall back to whatever version I was running [4.13?] since it was capturing Electricsheep fine.

very interesting
would be nice to see some of your work (if you were willing)

Is this like, via e-mail, or snail mail? I'd be quite interested in doing this!

I'm also curious how it get's going: is it through people you know, or are there groups one can join (I'm sure there's many possibilities).

We could start a new version:

Hi, Tomos.

For someone interested in beginning, I'd recommend joining IUOMA there are thousands of members, you can see what I and they post and communicate with them online and by snail.

Hi, All.

as I said, there are no rules so email would be ok but people usually stick to snailmail.

here's an example of what I'm doing using Screenshot Captor to get the 'seed' image from Electric Sheep

http://iuoma-network...77%3AAlbum%3A1839837

Please let me know if you are not able to see the image due to lack of privilege. I'm not sure if you must be a member of IUOMA. IUOMA is the place online where I've put a lot of images.

Here it is as a thumbnail.

Living Room / Mail Art anyone?
« on: September 15, 2015, 12:21 PM »
I mentioned to Mouser that one of my hobbies is mail art and he said:

"I wonder if you would consider making a post on the forum telling
people about mail art?  Sometimes this world can be a dreary place
-- it's important to open people's eyes to how folks are trying to
make it more interesting."

Sure! It's not only interesting, but Fun!

"What is mail art?"

Mail art is like pen pals with the added facet of trading art but also news, gabble, humor, photos and curiosities with friends all over the world.

How do people do mail art?

First, mail art is pretty much free of rules and commercialism

there are those who eschew modern/electronic/computer and do mail art the 'old-fashioned' way with scissors, paste, rubber stamps, pencil, ink, oils, aquarelle, etc. and some of these are accomplished graphic and/or textual artists. Some of these make faux postage stamps and have their own manual perforators.

Then there are those 'artists' such as myself who can't draw**.

**except organic chemical structures

and we are more into the abstract, aleatory and steal-and-alter school. That's why I found Screenshot Captor as a way to amass snapshots of  Electric Sheep the screensaver.

I installed the stable beta and it works 'instantly' no matter how I start Electricsheep.

I also tried it with the 'try to capture aero-transparency whatever...' and it was slooooow but NOT BLACK, it actually captures the window.

Thanks again,

Y'r ol' Bud,

Hello, Mouser.

I'm having another problem with MS security essentials not running correctly and, while trying to find out why and fix it, I found a setting where I cd turn off transparency of window frames. I turned it off but am still futzing with security essentials and haven't tried to capture the offending Electricsheep window. more later.

Hi, Mouser.

I mucked about some more and learned:

If I start ES from its "settings" window [available by desktop context menu Item "personalization"/then screensaver -OR- from an item under ES in "all programs" under start menu] I can capture the active window with no perceptible delay and can resize/shape the window. Sometimes screen capture is accompanied by closing of the active window but not often enough to be bothersome.

So, I'm back in high cotton and happy.

Thanks for y'r help,

Y'r ol' Bud,

Fike

Re: y'r questions

1. without determining the pixel width and height, it seems to be the right size. The window edges and label "electric sheep" do appear in the black captures.
2. image captured properly with the old setting and long delay.

I'm running electricsheep from the "run in a window" sheep's head icon found under windows 'all programs' via the start menu.

I just tried capturing [using the active window keystroke combo] the entire screen filled with ES started by "preview" mode in the windows' screensaver chooser app and it seems to work fine.

It also works fine capturing the entire screen filled with ES while it is acting as a screensaver turned on after 5-min without user input.

I could use it this way but prefer to use the smaller, always on window which I can size for portrait or landscape postcard images.

I hope that's clear. If not, I'll try to clarify.

Thanks,

Fike

The entire window is black.

a prtscn of the entire screen works ok [ from the prtscn key, the key bar at the top of my desktop or the choice in the right mouse key menu of the icon in the tray.]

The black active window results from either the keystroke combo or the bar at top of desktop.

Thanks, Mouser.

That fixed the delay problem however now I get black window captures when electricsheep is running.

I started using Screenshot Captor thru its menu bar and was getting the long delay after clicking the active window capture button. Then I switched to the <ALT> <PRTSCN> keystroke combination and got 'instant' capture! Horray.

That was yesterday. Today no matter what I've tried, there's an ~4sec delay, first a black border then a white border then the shutter sound.

I've tried setting and unsetting the capture delay and have searched HELP and this forum and, so far, have not found out what I'm doing differently today compared with yesterday.

I really detest the long delay when trying to capture Electricsheep!
