General Software Discussion / Re: Split a video in n equal parts.
« on: September 24, 2022, 03:19 PM »
I download the Latest available win64 binaries

[ Invalid Attachment ]

But I don't see the option to split the video file.

The option P:\Escritorio\Split a video in equal parts\mp4box.exe.lnk give me no results.
Nothing open. seems appear a windows and disappear  :-\

this option is in My MP4Box GUI - GPAC has command line called mp4box - for this command line My MP4Box GUI is gui - just search for My MP4Box GUI in google and install it- it automaticaly finds GPAC; on my 7 32 mp4box doesn`t start for lack of some dll, but, nonetheless, GUI and split option works ok; GPAC version 1.01, My MP4Box GUI version 0.6.00 - both 32

ps - my GPAC and GUI versions don`t work with 1080 video, only 720 max - when i try to split or extract 1080 nothing happens

GPAC - https://gpac.wp.imt.fr/

My MP4Box GUI as gui for GPAC

in split only options split by size, by duration and extract by duration

if you have 7 disc you can make winpe with aomei winpe builder

you are completely mistaken when you say that gpt is only for internal drives 2,2tb and larger - it is of course for every drive 2,2+, because only gpt can see entire drive - old type partition table mbr can see only 2,2 tb, so what point in offering external drives 4tb of which a half is of no use at all

so to use your entire 4tb drive you have to make it gpt, ie convert it to gpt with diskpart from winpe, create partitions, etc

winpe should work because diskpart and disk drivers from vista up work with gpt - even 7 32 winpe should work, because 64 is necessary only for booting from gpt, not working with it

also, in case of large drives should be remembered, that older systems, up to 8, work only with so called 512e drives, ie emulating old 512 byte sectors, not with 4kb native drives, with 4kb sectors without emulation

it is probably another problem - creators update contains small cmd based applet called mbr2gpt, which convert mbr disk to gpt disk without files loss - i have read that it should be used through cmd, but i met on other forums at least 1 case where, it seems, it got at work automatically and tried to convert disk to gpt - it is especially provided for 7 to 10 upgrade cases, because 7 doesnt serve fully uefi

if it is your case you should ascertain what is exactly partition style on yor booting disk, i mean disk set in uefi\bios as booting - you could do it for example with partition wizard bootable cd started from cd - if it is gpt style there will be small 100mb partition efi on disk formatted in fat32 - and then use system applet bcdboot to write bootloader files to this partition (or just from 7 installer cd, using diskpart commands list disk, etc)

dual boot system is in this case of no consequence - you should be always able to add other 7 to bcd in case of problems

what partition should be active - of course with folder boot and bootmgr file - in partition wizard you can check folders\files on partition - just to mark partition and choose explore partition in menu - but only on mbr disk of course; system partition 100mb on mbr will be formatted in ntfs, not fat32

in gpt style disk there is no active partition - instead is system partition efi (esp - efi system partition), with windows boot manager files

sorry for my english, but i am in great hurry!

eventuallly, if you can use bcdboot, from installer cd or from recovery partition\folder, if possible (or from system, is in system32) - command something like

bcdboot c:\windows /s x: /f uefi

/s x: means

system partition letter = x: - you should assign letter to efi for example in diskpart, or in partition wizard, because normally this partition is without letter - letter is of no consequence for functioning because partition is recognized by uefi by guid in gpt partition table, not letter, letter is only for bcdboot to identify it; x of course only example

or maybe there are other commands in bcdboot automatically recognizing system partition efi without letter - i am no expert in bcdboot

another possibility - you should make functional 7 on hdd, and repair start on ssd from this 7, for example using easy bcd - easy bcd could repair both mbr and gpt start

to make funcional 7 on hdd you should mark partiton as active in diskpart, write codes on start sector of disk and active partiton (from cd - commands bootrec /fixmbr, and /fixboot), and write bootloader to active partition, command in bcdboot in 7 (all this with detached ssd)

bcdboot c:\windows /s c: /f mbr

to write bootloader bcdboot uses boot files templates from system registry folder, so you would not have systems choice in 10 - you should add both 7 to new bootloader in easy bcd

on hdd you can have mbr style, only on booting ssd gpt\uefi - partition style on data disk is of no consequence

to use bcdboot is probably important, because there are slight differences in bcd file for mbr and gpt; but easy bcd also can write right bcd

General Software Discussion / Re: Fixing File Associations (PDF)
« on: December 08, 2015, 12:42 PM »

actually default file associations are not in the key for file extension, ie in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf\

they are little below in the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, in the key for so called friendly file name - friendly file name is the name in the default value of the extension key, so on the post 1 screenshot pdf_auto_file is friendly name for pdf file

exactly, they are in the subkey shell\open\command of this friendly name key

friendly name is variable, every aplication can create its own friendly name and register by creating key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (but not necessarily change value default in extension key)

but of course default associations are only valid for user account, so one friendly name key often cannot be used as data source for many accounts - if i can judge from my experience primary key for account default association is key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

it is primarily key for context menu open with, but if in extension key in this key are values application or progid with data they are used as default - progid serves as link to friendly name key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT; if in extension key is subkey openwithprogid it also serves as default program data source with link to friendly name key; in value application is only application name, not its path, so, i guess, this application must have key in key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications for this link to work

to complicate the picture there are keys classes in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, that contain some of the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT keys - friendly name in classes in current user may be other then in classess root, it has preference before HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT; in windows from 8 this key in current user is probably default for user associations

i think explorer searches for ways to open file in account registry hive, if there isn`t specific data in keys in current user it searches for data for opening in key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT or its copy in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, so actually HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT is last on the data queue list

friendly name key has this advantage that it can serve for many extensions, for exemple various sound\video extension can have only one friendly name

i must add that i am not programmer, these are only guesses from many years of my struggles with windows

while writing this post i tried to check my guesses - i have some docx files, and because i have xp, in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT there isn`t extension key for docx - but such key is in Explorer\FileExts, because i added programm for opening docx file to open with - if i just clicked on file it opened in notepad - now i added default programm through file properties - in docx key in subkey openwithprogids appeared value docx_auto_file -
when i restarted regedit and checked in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, sure, there is key docx auto file with path to tmviewer; checked second time and in CLASSES_ROOT appeared also key .docx with docx auto.. as friendly name

on post 1 screenshot there is key openwithprogids - i think this is proper key for default application, not persistenthandler, etc - if there is this key with friendly name and another friendly name as default value in extension key default value has priority

6

settings are probably kept in key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

in values iconstreams and pasticonstreams (actual items amd past items, accordingly)

I think You can actually create something like that in Stardock DesktopX

multiple desktops will be available in desktop right click with different icons(links),
and, if i remember well, even widgets etc.; moreover they load pretty fast
