Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Desk & Archive v2.0
« on: July 21, 2013, 07:42 AM »
I've got great responses from this forum when I released the first version of my software, so I am glad to announce the next version.

Desk & Archive is the application I have created because I was not satisfied how current file managers work in the business environment. Short description for the software is:

Desk & Archive is a file manager built with productivity in mind. It provides tools to manage office documents and personal workflow efficiently.

Application is built on a personal experience from the workplace. It is tested and crafted in a real environment with the aim to provide value to business users.

Application contains following features:
- It is designed as a place to start a work - turn any document into the always available template; create a document based on the previous work or start from an empty document.
- Track work easily with Smart tags – tagging allows easy categorization, but Smart tags means three more things:  tag reminders, tag snoozing and tag chain.
- Improved general operations – many small and useful improvements in copy & paste, drag & drop, rename and other everyday tasks.
- Tools to keep the Desk clean – one click to move completed items to the archive; Launch Bar for starting programs and Pinned folders to open folders from application instead from your already burdened Desk.
- Flexible views – Item lists allow flexible viewing of items across the tags and folders; Ad hoc items lists means you can create such lists on the fly, and Filter panel allows easy filtering of the items in the current view.
- Easy navigation – no need to open and close tabs with History that gets automatically tabbed; locations for copy & paste are easily available in Contextual folders
- Keyboard and mouse improvements – type to navigate quickly; easy multiple selection with the mouse
- Great previews and many other small but handy features.
Desk & Archive is available on http://www.deskandarchive.com. You can find demo videos in features section.

Also, if you have bought license for v1.0, it can be used for v2.0 too!

Maybe it might be useful info that portable version has been released, you can download it on:
http://www.deskandar...;ArchivePortable.zip

It is also not just made portable, but accommodated to be used on portable drive (more info on my blog post at: http://www.deskandar...k-a-archive-portable)

Also, for those who prefer desktop version, in version 1.0.2 new licensing mode is available which allows to run application on as many computers as you like, as long as only one instance is running.

Also, information that beta versions were free for use in limited time period (till the end of this year), so it was listed as Freeware on sites. It had notification on start that clears this.

I think a demo video would go a long way towards encouraging people to buy or try it.
Currently there is an independent video review:
http://desk-archive.findmysoft.com/

I have plans to make my own videos in foreseeable future, thanks for suggestion.

Desk & Archive is very intuitive, im having some issues but Ivan is quite responsive. Great support :)
BTW, just to note that I am answering emails every day, but I have other half time job (at least till this doesn't start to bring revenues so that I can dedicate full time to all the stuff), so I might not be able to react on everything immediately, but I do take note on everything and do as fast as I can.

I must say I don't have exact answer right now.

Program data cannot be portable, though it makes a lot sense, as your bookmarks should be different for different computers, I guess, so it might not be a problem.

I am unsure if it would run properly from USB flash (have to test it for that), but it should from USB hard disk.

However, at this point the biggest problem would be licensing, as it is licensed per computer. And I guess it doesn't make sense to license each computer for portable application. I might try some solution so that it is licensed for USB drive, but it requires some work and testing, so I can't say when it might be available or even that it will be available, for now.

But it is a very good idea, thanks for the comment.

Thank you, I must say this is great forum and I already like people from here very much! :)

I'd recommend again -as per my post above- make a post in the "Announce your Software" section (the post was # 473 in this thread).
Give the details there and link from here to it. (FWIW I had a look @ the purchase page, it was displaying Paypal logos, but didnt offer me paypal - it did offer me lots of other options though. [I went to second page - my location is Germany])
You were right, this talking here went too far, however here is the link where it can continue:
https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=32629

And as last answer here, Plimus generally processes PayPal, but you must be PayPal member, and at this point I am not as my country (Serbia) is not available for selling over PayPal yet.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / File manager Desk & Archive
« on: October 22, 2012, 07:10 PM »
Hi,

I have developed file manager Desk & Archive.

I was not satisfied how other file managers work for my job (it is of administration type), so I decided to develop something that users like me, the one that deal with lot of office type documents would find useful.

Its main features are reinvented Desktop (so that its items like shortcut to programs, folders and normal files are spread across interface), reinvented Tabs (so that they work without manual work, application both opens and closes them automatically), and other new productivity features.

Application is available at www.deskandarchive.com. If you decide to buy it till the end of October, you can use early adopters discount, just enter coupon code: cno2m. Affiliate program is also available, you can send me PM for more information.

Also, here is the screenshot:

Feedback and comments are welcome.

I see... Plimus blocked my order but count me in.

bored of plimus payment system already
I don't understand what was your problem exactly? At least in my account setup they had relatively good developer support, so I can try to ask them for fix or advice...

I must say that I have chosen Plimus because they had Licensing solution, so it saved me probably month or more of developing, I might decide to do something else in next versions.

This is now a bit off-topic, but I will release that part of code on CodeProject (unfortunately even that ready made solution took like week or more to make it really work)... if it is of use for anyone here :)

i cant see where to add the cno2m coupon.

any guidance?
The first plan was for the first week, but I have extended it to the end of month.

But it seems that at Plimus control panel I did it wrong, so now it is fixed and available.

Anyway, I didn't want to spread commercial information (including discounts, but there are also some others like affiliates), I wasn't aware if it was OK to say here. And info is also available on Twitter and Gplus, though I guess it doesn't make it any better for you :).

The problem is that "Find" is the favorite word used by SEO people, who pretend to be ordinary users, then turn out to have a vested interest.

Just any of the "wrote/created" type words is fine.
I fully agree with last one. And that's wording I used on some other sites. Again if anyone thinks that this is off-topic, I will delete post. From my point of view, I am the passionate user of this application, and though I have conflict of interest that I am also creator, I don't think that I cannot say that, people may try it and some may like it, some may not.

And also, I haven't posted any links to third party sites, someone else did it after me, hopefully he will reply here. Though I don't think that Softpedia is obscure site, that is wrong information, actually it is one of top 5 download sites... I am unsure if any site other than download.com is more popular.

If you are suspicious, I am not affiliated with Softpedia in any possible way except that Desk & Archive is listed there, as it is on many other download sites :)

I am sorry for mistake of not properly disclosing everything as I did in some other posts (however you can see that I am not hiding anything as I did not sign with fake email or username (this is also my username in many forums), as you have noticed).

To fully disclose:
I have created this application as I was not satisfied with current solutions, I am doing another job half time and using this application every day in work, so I believe that I have right to talk as user and not just developer. The question was which file manager you use, so I believe that it is not off-topic to say what I am using. However, verb "found" I used is very vague and should have been replaced with something more clear, and again that is mistake and if you prefer you may delete my post because of that, though I don't think it is off-topic.

I found new file manager
Now, did you? And you kindly decided to share it with the whole world:

ivanii about 24 hours ago

There is also new software, Desk & Archive (link removed by philb66) which automatically creates tab in situation you have mentioned, so it might be the solution for you.

Are you affiliated with the software? (highlight mine)

Just to add some more to this discussion (although a bit late), I found new file manager Desk & Archive. It is a little bit different than other file managers mentioned here, but might be better suited for average users.
