Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Rename Pad
« on: August 04, 2009, 08:31 PM »
Awesome Thanks All definitely gonna check those out, just to find the best one for me.

**EDIT**

Tried them, they all work awesome, but i found they all had to have me click and select to open in a pad mode, or they were addition file explorers to run.  I found one thats a little more too the point for me xD, it opens in pad mode automatically and has majority of the same options as the others.

I ended up with this one, after a day of googling freewares =]

http://tinytools.obj...e/Tools/SpeedRenamer
(recommend peeking at his/her homepage seems like there is a bunch of misc freeware (german/english) and all sorts of purposes..)

Thanks again everyone =D

I was just thinking more like a simplistic way to dump a directory into notepad, edit the names and have it change them in the file system. I was hoping for more of a word document feeling then a screen full of switches/boxes etc,.

I guess i can try it though, might be different then some of the other ones i have tried lately.

I was thinking of avoiding those types of renaming tools with all those checkboxes and regex expressions etc,.

but thanks anyways =]

Tired of pressing F2 or right clicking and selecting rename on a multitude of files and folders, i propose a context menu button or something similar which opens a very basic notepad style window with all the current folder paths contents, and just like in notepad you can go line to line, find and replace, etc,.

So you can basically edit them all at once, hit save and you're done.

Anyone know if this is possible?  I think it would make life easier =] for some of us who cant learn regex and regular expressions and o-o all those crazy other tools and this way you get the efficiency but its idiot proof.  Looking for something very simple at the moment/

Although, if anyone feels up to it a more advanced version could include check boxes to exclude lines (files/folder), possibly a preview panel for pictures that updates each time you switch lines.

Anyways if any of you all know something similar in existence or know how to create something like this let me know.

So you got an annoying friend who can't use google and asks you like questions non stop.  This site does like a google automated fly in and types the text says that wasnt so hard and then googles it for the person.  I was wondering if there was a way to script it so all i do is highlight a portion of the convo where they asked me  the question and press a hotkey to auto-paste into the message box and send?  I'd give it a go myself but i'm afraid looking for window dialog to paste into text box or something would be hard.  i want it to work on the current ontop application and send to the textbox

Any hints ideas, help  or even coding would be appreciated =)

Greets Farmsteader,

Thanks for the encouragement.  I think i would love to write some reviews and give back to the community.  I have tons of great software thats free or open source, and not enough people know about them =p.

to f0dder: I can show you screenshots it actually hooks into system drivers and detects everything it has a virtual registry and filesystem and it isolates everything coming in or out, as well as it copies any file into the sandbox if a program plans to modify it.  Im not gonna say a bug or bypass is impossible but its going to be tough.  I found even if you kill the sandbox control process its still got the drivers loaded into windows so your program still runs protected.  I will do more research though.

to Mouser: QEMU! Its free, very tiny =) and opensource from what i have heard.  You may look into QemuMenu, or QemuManager for making it easier so you dont have to script it all out in command line, the GUI is helpful ^^ It works exactly like virtual pc and vmware except you support nice people like DonationCoders through using it instead of mass faceless corporations O_o lol.  And honestly Sandbox's are a pretty much the same as Virtual PC just overlapping your real operating system so you dont have to run a second one in another window and waste precious resources.  Virtual PC's are more for testing with OS's you don't have installed in my opinion.  =) but hey w/e works i just like to keep an open mind,  because =) there is always something smaller and better ;).  You know it's true because DonationCoders has made most of the stuff thats smaller and better =).

to AdIyhc: That might be AVG's fault too though, If it goes through the filter before/after IE accesses the net avg may think the browser has been hijacked. I will look into your problem though.
Leave some Details (os/version,avg version, browser) ect,.. =) Without details you can't get your problem fixed.

To all: course nothing is perfect but i don't aim to be super paranoid and hide in a virtual box =p I want speed, and functions.  Run some files, test programs and then wipe the slate clean. =)  I have recently found a few other apps that work similiarly with different abilities =) so i will prolly do an All-in-One type review /comparison.  If you want i will do screenshots and videos.

P.S. I will try to do a review on qemu too =) Also if you want to delete this i will put the reviews in the proper forum threads ;)

« on: January 02, 2007, 02:17 PM »
I would write a review but i dont know where to begin, it isntalls system drivers that allow redirection of files and registry keys it makes a virtual environment (sandbox) that you can run your browser in, or test an application in development, or even run malware or viruses without consequences.  Once you are done testing or installing possible security threats you empty the sandbox and no changes were done to your registry or file system.  Also has the option to move/save files you like from the sandbox.

http://www.sandboxie.com/

^_^ its Totally free but the free version limits your number of sandboxes,.. so you cant test things in separate areas without having files interfere with others results.  If you jsut want it to secure your browser or test possibly dangerous apps its great you only need one box.  =) best of all if you run say virus.exe in sandbox from your rightclick menu and it deletes all your windows folder or overwrites files, the originals are unharmed it uses the file system drivers to redirect to the sandbox where they are null =o its awesome i been using it for like a week now installed and uninstalled MANY programs and cleared my box with no consequences.  I also ran some viruses on purpose to see how it helps =).

(Only problems MSI support isnt the best just yet, and i have to clear my System Events Logs at startup for it to work, thats easy stuff though. =) Let me know what you all thinks, and if you can see any flaws in the concept.  As for me i think its gonna be one of my more used tools =P)

Anyways Love you DonationCoders, happy 2007

Your Friend, Felicia

« on: November 02, 2006, 06:59 PM »
Actually strangely enough that still works out, admin on my laptop, admin on my desktop, and at school we are admins on the PC's themself but not the network.  we can install and uninstall and do w/e we want :-p computer labs and in the commons. =) they are confident in their security enough to give us that power i guess.  Almost every computer is stocked with games and stuff, they dont care because we pay them so much maybe?

But yeah ... be kind of tough for people who dont have admin at school, but its still great if you have multiple PC's or a laptop and want to synch settings and profiles and stuff =)

Vital for usage huh  :D  haha such a wonderful compliment for Mouser.  :tellme: So if they are already portable whats the problem XD ?

So far i am debating with myself, we know U3 did it but i think they had it built-in to the hardware and some people found it inconvenient.  Not an option anyways i don't make USB drives lol.

Ceedo did it all software based, same concept works the same, less features then what i said.  The thing about ceedo that gets me is it doesn't work with some programs unless you download them specially packaged and install them to usb.  I can understand having a portable app on your USB.  but if you know its something on everyones pc why not save space and only keep the settings stored not the app  makes sense to me.  Like save you like using a program that is most definitely not portable, but you can save your settings and take them to multiple computers that already have it installed, that may not be a great as taking the app everywhere but it gives you a break by skipping inputting all your settings each time you go to a new pc.

Ultimate goal is to never have to reconfigure anything =P from scratch.  At my college every pc i login to i get msn autoloading when i don't want it too, msn auto pops up msn today, it sorts people by groups, and doesn't remember my custom groups, or it doesn't save my emoticons, doesn't save my display pic, i doesn't keep tracks of my desktop or my files on my desktop etc,..

I am sure many other people can see how tedious this gets, it is also annoying beause every time i open MS Word on another computer it brings up the registration for user thing and asks for my initial and name so it can register to my user account and say who wrote the document in the detailed info / metadata.  I honestly want it to feel like i am going to the same pc no matter where i am.  Comfort is a good thing to have ^_^ i am sure you can appreciate what i mean since youa re so dependant on Mouser's wonderful apps =P.

I think NSIS is the only option though, but like i said i havent done anything before so maybe someone has better ideas or knows an easy way to code in it.

-Felicia

P.S. http://windowsxp.mvp...usershellfolders.htm <- has an awesome list of the User shell folders as well as their registry keys.  It may be helpful. (XYPlorer is looking good on my desktop  :-*)

What if it were to End Process Tree explorer thus killing all open apps, and restart with whatever VUE loads *grins evilly* maybe a custom shell [AstonShell, Talisman, or bluebox, litestep etc,.]? also its very common that most programs store to your user profile.

Firefox, msn, & many more popular programs save to these dirs. =) What kind of programs do you use that don't save to the user profile, the ones that don't / shouldn't would only be system tools and why would you use system tools on someone else computer (I'm thinking user here not technician =P though that would be nice too lolz). Another example the newest version of winamp and others i believe let you choose to set your files to application data folder and have it custom settings for each folder =).

Also just now i noticed in System properties > advanced > user profiles > settings
you have the option to copy a profile.. i was thinking that would be a could start to copy say a default user profile, but it would get no where in the actual program working lol.

Can you give examples of mainstream programs or rare ones that it wouldn't work on (I'm just curious i love to try new programs).  The other thing is if they don't use it maybe it could find a work around for that.  I know John Haller and many many others use NSIS for loaders etc,.. to make apps portable and store their data on to the USB drive even some that don't use Application data folder are made to work.  I am starting to think NSIS is a better option than batch =\ haha batch was my only hope *cries* haha i don't know anything about NSIS or loaders for that matter.

thanks for the reply  :) encouraging and thought provoking as always,

-Felicia

P.S. - Anyone know NSIS or like where to get guides on it? Any help would be nice  :P

The plan is to use BATCH scripting to make a USB portable "Roaming Profile" for XP based systems.  It would show up in the explore context menu of the USB drive as the second item.  When activated or launched it would redirect %USERPROFILE% to E:\%PortableProfile%.  Thus reading and writing to your application data folder history and cookies would take place on the usb key.  The programs you use would not follow you but the settings would.

for example any pc you go to and load VUE, you would run msnmsgr on their pc and it would see "E:\%portableprofile%\Application Data\MSN Messenger\" it would then load msn based on your settings, this would mean it would save your emoticons and your contacts nicknames, and how your organize them etc,.. so you wouldnt have to reconfigure for every pc. msn is just an example i think it would work other places too.

I also think after VUE loads it should refresh and and load "E:\%portableprofile%\application data\microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp" as well as "E:\%portableprofile%\desktop\" this would replace the desktop wallpaper with yours and have your desktop shortcuts / icons and they would be arranged just how you like.  Start > my documents should link to "E:\%portableprofile%\My Documents" and so on.

My question to you all is do you think its possible  :tellme: or am i just crazy.  Technically roaming profiles exist for networks and store the info cached on the hard drive, i want to do the same thing except i want it on USB.  Now would you say its best to make a BATCH that abused the SET command and changes it all to what needs to be and when you unload the usb you must unload VUE first as to not corrupt the current user you like absorbed lol.  It would prolly be even more amazing to code an EXE loader maybe NSIS that would load off the USB and edit in memory and redirect all reads/writes and when you disconnect the USB drive it would have the original variables stored in ram [only like 1k text] that it would then reset upon the USB drive disconnecting.

Basically the idea is a Freeware version of U3/Ceedo, except it would be ten times better, and it would be compatible with all applications that are already install on the host pc.  Though this would not make apps portable, it would allow you to carry your desktop and documents as well as settings everywhere.  portable apps already exist but whats the fun without a portable profile  ;D.

Not sure if it can be done.. i am starting to try the SET command and browsing around in batch and i downloaded nsis but im a newb and never coded anything if anyone can do it or has a better idea, i would be very much interested.

P.S. sorry for the mega rant

Hey ! Check out YadaByte's Portables!

Check out the program called SubText

Hi all, Wonderful suggestions,

Quick question for jgpaiva though, Is there a maximum number of processes that can be killed at once? (or a text limiter to the commandline?) or can i just copy a huge list of exe's into it for example

exe1,exe2,3,4,....20

Thanks in advance XD, Definitely one to add to my software collection :-p

There is no valid criticism for this site or it's members.  The keys are there for a reason, and yes many freeware requires registration because most people don't give the feedback authors need.  DonationCoders' Rule!

Hey Nudone,

Alternative cure for you, not quite what you want but it does a good job. Teleport Cursor by Jason Hood XD auto jumps your cursor to the default button in that dialog only downside is if you click accidentally and the default isnt what you want :(, hopefully you get something that works perfectly for you

Haha mouser said useless tiny apps, thought this would be funny and maybe even useful

How about a program that takes your hardware ID's like serialnumber, or other hardware ID and then squares them by each other or something so you get a massive random number almost like a CRC or an MD5

and then the program could be used through like command line to compare your hardware to the checksum generated number and output either good or bad the user could add it to batch scripts or .COM's to add security, so their apps wont run anywhere but on their computer or something (pc dont boot unless confirmed?) like

If %Check% = 19236378462389 then Run
If not dont run

Its prolly more complex than that lol but hey ^__^ its just an idea. Any one got any other ideas or opinions?

oh well ttyl ;)

There is also E4M which truecrypt is based off, but it needs to load a .Sys file driver :(, but something you might look into it also has the source available if you look around.

Greets :)

You will be happy to know this is an actual product, http://www.cryptcd.com/ it has home, pro, government and forensic editions. they encrypt and scramble your files into fake data and they have a special viewer that you use to view the files.  One of the kool features is you can set it to not allow export from the disc and you can have it remove traces after you close the viewer.
It has many decoy options and customized screen making so you can pretend its software and the password is really a serial ;) or whatever you can come up with, imagination is the limit.

Although i think it would be easier & more interesting to have something that unpacks to a ram drive i would like to see how that would work out ^_^ because i'm not totally sure how cryptcd keeps the traces off your drive unless it stores reads them right from teh cd and decodes while in ram but not on a ram drive *confused* XD

anyways good way to start a monday ttyl all

Hey Gadlen,

It seems someone else has shared your frustrations.  You might be interested in Mike Lin's Taskbar Commander.
I am not sure of DonationCoder's forum policies so, the author's site is www.mlin.net,

and the direct link is:

As for the tray organization I don't recall anything like that.  It maybe the code snack :)

Hopefully TaskbarCommander is what you were looking for ;)
