General Software Discussion / Re: uTorrent alternatives?
« on: April 02, 2012, 11:42 PM »
I have found qBittorrent, which looks like what I want, but I was wondering if you guys have anything else that you may be using.

From my experience, qBittorrent doesn't handle Unicode file names very well.

The best way to download torrents is with Tixati.   Not only is it a great and fast torrent client, but it's also a fun place to hang out, chat, search and share with others. :)

I'm using Tixati right now. The UI lacks a bit of responsiveness but in general this software gets the job done.

I use Alcohol 52% Free Edition . It lets you create disc images beside mounting them. It can also emulate copy-protected discs like Daemon Tools.

I think Oops Backup is very good and it seems quite fit for superboyac's plan. I've been using it for quite a while and it has saved me a few times. I set it to backup every 1 hour if there are any changes, and keep older versions for up to 3 months. My whole data is about 50GB and the total backup size is now about 150GB.

I'm showing some usage statistics below if that can help

Thanks, phitsc - the talks seem quite useful. I'm watching CPU Caches and Why You Care by Scott Meyers, who seems indeed funny =)

Btw, slides can be found by googling for the talks' titles. For example, the slides for the talk mentioned in your post is here.

I use the free version of AnVir Task Manager. It can pin windows on top and a lot of other tasks too (see the attached image below). The nice thing is that it doesn't add any "icons" or "buttons" to your title bar.
