Yeah I have a music performance BFA in flute from undergrad. Then I play a little piano and am learning the guitar. I can also double on oboe.

Time to start the DC orchestra it seems! I majored in music performance in college then took some non-music career turns but now I'm playing again (flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, and oboe) in some local groups. I'm working with a teacher who is in the NY Philharmonic and trying to get together a recital for me to play so I could have a more recent stuff soon!

Yes, it's true that it helps to have two techies. I got into arduino due to trying to make some conductive fabric art (I'm making a cody with lilypad right now!).

I sort of wish I had a daughter to see what she could do with some of this stuff! Fun!

This past weekend, my boyfriend and I spent the entire weekend making things with Lilypad/Arduino. I did the coding and sewing (I'm making wearables) and it turns out that he was really into electronic components as a kid so he started with that. Then I hit a glitch in my code and he had something wired wrong and we both worked through the logic on both things and fixed the problem. Talking to Mouser about it and how much fun we had, we realized that this could be a great thing not just for kids but for adults who are looking for something that's geeky fun! Give it a shot!

This is a pretty simple first project -- an LED bookmark book light. I free form cut the bookmark pieces out of felt and now I just have to wait for the fabric glue to set before I start sewing with the conductive thread to get the LED light in the middle of the daisy to light up. The thing at the bottom of the bookmark is where the battery will go. I'm working through a series of exercises in the book "Sew Electric."



I have the feeling I'm going to have a lot of fun this week working through the intro projects! I'll post the finished bookmark tomorrow with conductive and decorative stitches! Then it's onto the next project - an LED bracelet with a computer chip to control the light with so it blinks, fades, etc.

seems like there should be a way to make a universal number and/or redirect all these to one so that people can just dial whatever they can remember at the time. lol...but that would require years of negotiation probably...some country would take offense at any number used.

WOW!!!!! That's an amazing design and you look great in the pix too! I wish I could have done something for NANY this year but there was absolutely no way with the medical situation (which seems to be getting worse...). Hally & Mouser -- any plans for a DC fundraising edition of this?????
