At least fanboys do know the favoured application very well.

+1 for Winmerge

Just reading that right there makes me want to support the company!

Well, the most important question: HAVE you supported them or do you just bullshit and pretend that you WOULD... blablabla.

If you get stuck with AHK the user community is incredibly helpful.

Do you consider the amount of support required to get something running a positive feature of a software? :-)

I guess that iPhone support forum is only a fraction of the one for Windows Mobile 6. Which is better though? Windows Mobile just for the sake of the many people who can't get it to work without asking thousands of questions?

Anyway as said: AutoHotkey is a very powerful automation and macro utility but its hotstring feature is pretty poor compared specialized tools.

Merida - are you in anyway related to the PhraseExpress product? You have posted a few messages recently and most seem to be promoting PhraseExpress. That isn't a problem but if you have a financial or intellectual stake in the product it would be nice to know it.

Nope, no affiliation at all.

Checked this page?

I have no problems with the feature. Something must have gone wrong on your PC. Have you tried to remove and reinstall?

Have you actually entered the words you want to be predicted? Phrase Express can only suggest what you entered before a couple of times.

I would also disable the automatic precision detection.

You have probably installed the sample phrase library while installing Phrase Express. You could have simply removed the sample items.

I cannot imagine that you did not know that you can switch off the features you don't want/need. ;-)

The predictive text can be switched off. But as you said, PE has been improved in this department. I am happy with this feature and you can taylor the options to your needs.

Just for entertainment I have tried the last DA beta version but it does not seem to have improved. I have many abbreviations (in the thousands) and DA totally shipwrecks if you store more than about 500 commands. The program takes forever to load, throws fatal error messages and takes >100MB of memory.

I keep sticking to PE. It is more powerful and stable.

Digital River introduced this as registration backup service and it is utter and embarrassing scam. They just keep your license key which they do anyway. It is plain ripp off and you should always remove it from your shopping basket.

I also do technical support and I can tell you: All too often the idiots are the users. Sometimes in such utterly ignorant matter that it hurts. ;-)

Idiots can be everywhere on either side ;-)

Have you contacted technical support? What was their reaction?

Why used DirectAccess anyway? It is a .NET bloat and PhraseExpress is much more powerful anyway. All features of the upcoming DirectAccess 2 are already existing in PhraseExpress and it does so much more. Plus it is free for personal users.

So why bothering with DirectAccess? Have you found any particular feature I missed while I tested a few text replacement utilities?

Why do you complain about their service if you are everything but not a customer?

They will certainly not miss you being a cheapskate... ;-)

I used to use PhraseExpress but now use AutoHotkey, which is much more powerful.

How do you back up this statement? I clearly doubt it.

I also tried a few of these programs like DirectAccess, AutoHotkey and PhraseExpress but PhraseExpress is absolutely the best of them all.

AutoHotkey misses support for formatted text, the AutoHotkey "user interface" is like vomit, it is tedious to add new snippets, it does not allow to assign multiple text strings to one single abbreviation. AutoHotkey also does not allow to group phrases in categories and you can't limit Autotexts to a specific programs. It also cannot import your AutoCorrect entries you created in Microsoft Word.

The only AutoHotkey benefit is that it is more powerful in the macro scripting department but at the cost of complexity.

Name one Autotext related feature which is in AutoHotkey which you miss in PhraseExpress or dump your false statement... ;-)
