UrlSnooper / Booting Url Snooper?
« on: April 27, 2015, 09:01 AM »
My pc has started to boot very slowly. I would like to know if there is a way to launch Url Snooper in "sniff" mode from the start menu in Win 8.1?  I would like to see if I accidentally installed a key logger that may be causing the slowness. Thanks for any suggestions you have.

A friend sent me some jpeg images from a Facebook page. I tried to "un-Facebook" the images by clicking on each picture's properties followed by the cmd (command) "Remove Properties and Personal Information." Doing this trashed all of the jpegs and this Windows task lacks an "undo" button.  I spent last night looking for an affordable program ($20 or so) but couldn't find anything, so, having found some cool programs before here (especially URL Snooper) I decided to ask. Thanks.

I am back now to report that I discovered WinpCap installs without a problem in Win7/RC1 if you install it as administrator and as an individual program and then give Windows permission to install it with the changes (including a supplemental download from WinpCap during the process) necessary for it to run. After that UrlSnooper runs great!

Thanks for a wonderful program!!! Even when not searching for multimedia it is so useful, especially so if you just want to see how many hundreds of times some web pages will try to redirect their traffic. With such sneakiness going on it is great to be able to keep tabs on it.

I tried installing but it gets as far as the WinCap installation and quits. It says WinCap won't install in Win7 (RC1/Build 7100). Is there a workaround?

P.S. There is. See my next reply. (I would have just deleted this post but didn't know how to do so.)

If  you can move that forum here, by all means do so. The popups are not only annoying, but also dangerous to newbies.

Here's the first one that greeted me.

`Latecomer to this thread I s'pose but doesn't this popup's own message about "in**FECE**ted" suggest it's all a bunch of crap?

Gah, I thought at 54-56 I'd be the only old-timer here. What a surprise to see I'm still just "middle-aged" though I have to admit there was a time when I thought "middle-aged" was definitely "over the hill." Funny what a few years'll do to an opinion, huh?

UrlSnooper / Request for license messages?
« on: January 09, 2006, 10:48 PM »
I only began to notice this after getting a PDA. When I used to just download streaming media to my pc I rarely got any kind of message about the media needing a license before it would play, but since getting a PDA for Christmas I notice that a lot of songs and a lot of video I download wants a license before it will play on my PDA. What can I do to duplicate the license that must (apparently) be present on my pc so the same data will play on my PDA?  If there is no easy answer is there a way to fix Url Snooper so it can run on a Pocket PC (IPAQ) and are there any programs like SDP that can run from a Pocket PC.

Thanks for a clue.

UrlSnooper / What can you tell from a URL?
« on: January 09, 2006, 10:39 PM »
Someone asked me today to find out what search engine is used by Epicurious.com. I thought maybe if I did some searches there the info I want would be found by URL Snooper. No dice. At least not this time. Oh, it is still an unbelieveably useful program, but I guess it can't do everything, or if it can then I just don't know how to interpret the evidence. Thanks for a clue (if there is one).

Living Room / Re: A Request For Your Help - help us spread the word!

This is such a cool way to get donations. Like here, this is free, we would appreciate a donation but we'll only ask twice and if you still can't afford to donate you can use it anyway and you will be permanently activated at that point. Well with an invite like that, unless if I was a kid getting a dollar per week allowance, there is no way I could pass by a chance to help if doing so was at all within my range of possible. (And if you use PayPal you don't have any excuse at all.)

And, oh yeah, I only donated a tad over 20 and mouser was so appreciative. I was really tickled because it seemed like so little for such a great program, but it was all i could afford that that particular moment; but mouser was appreciative anyway and i didn't feel like such a miser anymore.  :)

Well since the number of newbies doubles every other year (so it seems) I guess we can suppose not everyone has three or more pop-up / ad-blockers running at any given time. I guess we should seriously consider the plight of the newbie even if it's been over twenty years since at least a few of us were newbies. Remember 1200 baud modems guys and what a pain in the rear it was just trying to beat the busies on your fav BBS sites? So, yeah, despite the fact it's hard to fathom there are STILL newbies, it's a truth, so we should treat them the way we'd like to be treated. So, yeah, move the forum so it's more usable by all.
