Screenshot Captor / Re: Transparency for signature
« on: January 19, 2016, 08:46 PM »
Thanks Mouser - I found another way to do this. SSC is such a versatile tool, I assumed it would make this task easy to do, Thanks for making SSC as it is a GREAT tool for almost anything!

Screenshot Captor / Transparency for signature
« on: January 11, 2016, 10:53 AM »
Hi - I have been trying to figure out how to do something in Screenshot Captor and haven't been able to find a solution. My apologies if this has already been covered, but trying to search (with my search logic) did not bring up any fruitful info.

I have scanned my signature and after cropping to just the area around my signature I want the back ground to be transparent so when I paste it, only the signature shows and not the white background. Is there an easy way to "fill" the canvas as transparent? Or some other way to accomplish this? If I haven't explained clearly please let me know and I'll try to clarify.  :)

I am working with a .png file. Thanks in advance for any  assistance.

:) And it works GREAT too! Seems like everything I scan is slightly crooked and this tool in the interface helps me out immensely.

Thanks Mouser!

Since upgrading to Windows 10 on my Dell laptop, SC will not show the capture in the fine detail rotation dialog. Once I select the fine rotation detail, the capture disappears. If I cancel the fine rotation dialog, the capture re-appears. Strange. I tried to capture the behaviour in the attachment. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

« on: June 18, 2015, 02:18 PM »
I really like SPEWS, thanks for making this great application!  :)

I use it to display my 8K collected wallpapers (disk space is cheap), but I occasionally have a problem with the software where it will start switching the wallpaper so fast that I barely have a chance to see them. I normally have it set to change once an hour, but when this happens I have to right click on the taskbar icon and show SPEWS to stop the switching. When I do, I see that it has gotten set to 0 hours.

The first time this happened I thought it was a fluke, but it happens randomly every week or so. Just wondering if anyone else might have mentioned this...

Screenshot Captor / Re: SUGGESTION: Bezier curves
« on: October 13, 2014, 06:41 AM »
I know I am responding to a really old post, but I was just wondering if this feature request was ever considered, discarded etc. The only thing I find myself wanting to use a competing application for is to get the bending arrows with 2 bezier points so that I can adjust the arrow lines around items I don't want to obscure. I don't use them for every capture, but arrows are a great way to point out something of interest. This extra feature would  make captures look more professional and would be appreciated. (at least by me)

Screenshot captor is an excellent application!

Thanks for creating and maintaining it so well,

Don

Screenshot Captor / Re: auto move folders isnt working; request
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:54 AM »
Hi Mouser - I also experience the issue where the "auto-move" old screenshots does not work. I don't normally change directories, everything goes to the default folder as set in SC. The application has never auto moved any older screenshots for me. I was going to post a new thread about it, but when searching found this one. I did not see that option you mentioned in the "Move to" menu, and when I selected "Move older screenshots to..." the application moved everything in the default folder to dated folders in the "Older" folder. Since I use the application so often, my default folder has been getting pretty cluttered up.

I just wanted to let you know that I experienced the same behavior, SC moved ALL screenshots even though I selected "Move Older...".

Thanks for adding that function to the move to menu, I find it useful so I don't have to sort through hundreds of shots to find the one I need. After using the move to function I can search by date. It would be great if the auto move worked, but I don't seem to be able to make it work as expected.

 Thanks for making this wonderful application! Just an aside question, have corporate customers been appreciative of the application by licensing it?

Best regards

« on: September 05, 2013, 02:58 PM »
Apparently it wasn't  ;D

dvally, thanks for the helpful reply.

Not judging here.  It's up to any dev what they want to tackle.  I just report what I see.  "That don't make me a hater."

Some users (some places) go off, make rude comments, because someone wants to be able to read a UI or other very basic requests.  Don't get it.  I'm gonna stop voting in elections - that's asking for things to change.  :D

On your second point quoted above, wouldn't think of you as a "hater". I didn't see anything in your post to make me think that.

On the last point quoted - that sounds suspiciously like a campaign slogan... :P

Hello cathie28,

"I never said SSC was terrible.  If one doesn't spend much time using an app, they're may not even notice what might be improved or changed."

This is true, apologies I didn't mean that the way it came across. I just noticed that you had a number of posts where things didn't seem to be working the way you expected. It sounded like you may have been a little frustrated.

My mistake...

I also sometimes get frustrated with some apps when they don't work the way I expect. I have also submitted a few "improvement" posts.  ;) Typically though, I will try to find something else that works for me. Screenshot captor I guess meets "my" expectations as a really good screen capture tool.

You make many good points in your post, and you are correct in your description of the many ways people see things differently. That's why programming seems such a daunting task to me. It just seems like if I tried my hand at it, I would be able to make what I wanted but it wouldn't be what others consider what they wanted. How do you satisfy everyone's wants and needs and still keep all the functionality and simplicity? But that's just my mind wandering again!

I just wondered if you had programming experience.

I am saddened by your last note about the schools. My heart goes out to those parents who lost a child. It's tragic that schools NEED to install metal detectors and other such methods to keep knives and guns out of schools. But it appears to be a necessity.  :(

Thanks for your reply!

Hi cathie28, I just wanted to mention (on the fonts topic) that for me personally (>50) I have to decrease the resolution on my monitor to be able to see the fonts more clearly. I don't mean just with SSC, but other applications as well. I use Windows 7.

I realize that the older I get, the harder it is to see the small stuff. As much as I don't like to admit it, my vision isn't getting any better.

I don't know that this would help you out any, but if you decrease the resolution by degrees does it help with the font clarity? I finally had to settle on a resolution that is not the maximum that my monitor can display, but one that will let my eyes see the fonts clearly. I of course am not getting my money's worth out of the expensive display - but if I can read the text better...

You may have already tried this, and if so my apologies for the interruption.  :D

:) Hi cathie28, sounds like you really don't like using SSC. There are other choices, as you mentioned. Some are free and some are paid. I actually bought Snagit from Techsmith, however I find myself using SSC as my default capturing application instead of Snagit. SSC is the one set to start with Windows. On rare occasions, I will use Snagit to capture something I have issues with in SSC. I liked SSC so much that I made a donation to the site! I suppose I could complain about the issues in SSC that cause me to use Snagit occasionally, but I just find a way around them either with another tool or Snagit. It's great to have choices!

I think that the programmer's who provide their expertise to make an application as complicated and useful as SSC deserve our support, but that's just my opinion. I am not a programmer, but I think it would be a really hard task to create a program like SSC that does all of the things it does so well. I'm just wondering if you have any programming experience? Have you ever tried your hand at creating something like this? It appears too daunting for me to try, but I am really greatful for people like Mouser who have the fortitude to create a great program like this and then release it to the public.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to say hello...

Living Room / Re: digitising slides
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:35 AM »
I also had the same problem with my collection of slide photographs that I took with my Canon A1, AE1 and AT1 cameras back in the late 70's and early 80's. I have over 400 slides from Europe when I was there. I still have my Kodak slide projector, but I really wanted to digitize the slides so I didn't have to drag the projector out when I wanted to review them.

I tried a couple different inexpensive film scanners such as the ION Slides 2 PC, however I could not find one that satisfactorily captured/reproduced the quality of the original film slide. Granted, the quality I am speaking of was from 40 years ago and looking at it from today's perspective was not the greatest. However at the time the Canon A1 was professional quality and the resulting photos or slides were grade A.

I looked at flatbed scanners to accomplish this, but I didn't want to get a scanner that was jack of all trades and master of none. So - after reading reviews of many different solutions, I purchased a Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE for converting my slides to digital images.

The scanner also included Silverfast ISRD software as part of the purchase. This is "finishing" software to remove scratches and optimize the photo's after scanning. I must say that this scanner has been by FAR the best purchase I made to restore my photo collection from film to digital. The default scans needed 'almost' no correction. On a few occasions, I had to use the scratch removal process from the Silverfast suite. I will try attaching a sample that I digitized.

Insbruck-Austria-1980.jpg

I will say that the scanner was not cheap (around 400 dollars) at the time I purchased it, not sure if it's still available for purchase but if not I am sure that Plustek makes a replacement for it. I have digitized my entire slide collection and can now view or process them further anytime I need to.

The slides I have represent an irreplaceable time in my life and I am glad I purchased a dedicated scanner to restore those memories to digital clarity and ease of viewing.

  Dang it!

Thanks for that tip jpprater! I did not realize that setting that switch would help with the issue...

For now, that helps me out! It is mildly frustrating when I am trying to right click on items and choose what I need from the context menu to have to keep trying it until I can actually keep the menu open long enough to get the item I want. I really like the application though, and I was continuing to use it even with the minor frustrations.

Thanks again for posting that tip!

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Context Menu closing
« on: April 01, 2013, 02:49 PM »
Mouser - I have been using SSC 4 for about a week now and it is Great! (as usual)

I just wanted to send you a more descriptive screen cap video of the problem. The issue seems to occur with MS Office apps as well as other applications, and it is the context menu that loses focus as noted in the video. Once LBC is closed, the context menu starts working as expected.

Strangely, this does not happen EVERY time I try, but most of the time.

Thanks for making these great applications!

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Context Menu closing
« on: March 12, 2013, 07:46 AM »
Launchbar Commander is a really useful tool!  However, I too have noticed that the utility when running steals focus when the context menu/right click functionality is being used. For example, when LBC is running and I try to highlight a number of emails in Outlook and move them to another folder with the right click/Context menu - the menu just blinks off and I have to start over and try again. This also happens with other applications as well. This is not a show stopper for me though, the usefulness of the application trumps the annoyance.

Mouser - Thanks for taking the time to create this utility!

Has this issue been brought up before?

Best regards,

Don

 ;D Thanks Mouser!

Launchbar Commander works great! I downloaded the latest version (1.33.01) and encountered the Excel file issue. After updating with the beta linked (1.34.01) Excel files open smoothly! Great program!

General Software Discussion / Re: SoftMaker Office 2012 BETA testing
« on: September 09, 2012, 03:09 PM »
 I have been using Softmaker Office since 2008 version and I love the software. It's fast and feature rich, the addition of eM client with 2012 Professional edition was a great move!

I use eM client V4.x exclusively for email, and haven't had any problems with it. No software is perfect, but I must say I don't regret switching to Softmaker Office and ditching MS Office.

Just my opinion, I realize your's may vary...

DV

24
I empathize with you.

I stopped using TheBat! for the same reasons you mentioned, even though I am a licensed user.

I purchased Softmaker Office Pro and part of the suite is the "eM Client" which I have switched to using exclusively for email.

No email client is perfect, however I didn't want to deal with the frustration any longer. It was time to cut bait and run.

Just my opinion, I know many others mileage may vary...

General Software Discussion / Re: Do you touch-type or hunt-and-peck?
« on: October 04, 2009, 10:15 AM »
I learned touch typing on my own and IMO it is a definite must have skill. I can type about 25 wpm (as long as there are no numbers) in the thoughts I am putting down. I still have to look when I want to use numbers in the top row.

Since I have never been taught formal typing, I can't speak to that - but I would think that it would be a benefit to any child in the current technological environment.

Thanks for asking!
