Title: n2ncopy: copy/move stuff to multiple locations
Post by: lanux128 on October 08, 2009, 01:47 AM
based on a request on the chatroom by srikat, presenting n2ncopy.

[13:37pm] <srikat> need a small portable freeware
[13:38pm] <srikat> something like http://www.zenosys.com/mirror/index.html
[13:38pm] <srikat> from the screenshot appears like the above can support only one target location
[13:45pm] <srikat> I downloaded the above program and we can only mirror all the content of a folder
[13:45pm] <srikat> I need the ability to specify a file for the source
[13:45pm] <srikat> and for the destination multiple folders
[13:46pm] <srikat> into which the source file should be copied
[13:46pm] <srikat> with overwrite if exists option

this program is easy enough to use. a window will appear in the left bottom corner of the screen. Drag-n-drop the files and folders that you want to copy/move (there is an option for this later) into the left side of this screen. Drag-n-drop the destination where you want to copy/move on the right side of the window. this is a freeware but donations are welcome.

Note: the author's site is on Geocities (which is closing on October 26, 2009) so he's in the midst of moving his programs to a new host.

Thanks lanux.

Until I find a more complete solution like being able to specify multiple sets of copy operations within a single program, this will be useful. What I mean by multiple sets is that:

Set 1:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

Set 2:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

Set 3:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

skwire: It will be great if you can place 'Execute' or 'Run' buttons per set as well as for all the sets.

There is some ambiguity between the original IRC chat and one of your posts.  In the original IRC snippet, you just want to move a file.  In one of your previous posts, you describe a source file or folder.  I assume you want both?

Since my last post in this thread I did some research and found out several programs that already do what I want.

@skwire: I appreciate your initiative to make the program for me but I don't see the need for it any more now that I found out about the following:

http://www.codessentials.com/products/yadisbackup.html is what am using now. What I like about this program is that it automatically copies modified files over to the target instantly in the background.

These are others that I have bookmarked (but haven't tried yet):

Sweet.  I'm a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel.  I'm glad you found what you needed.

I haven't tried the others, but this one:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.04.utilityspotlight.aspx

is definitely good to have in your toolbox.  I did a Custom install of W7 onto my Vista 32 bit machine.  This program was the only one that I found that could copy the entire Windows.old folder(about 206,000 files) over the network without crashing.  It starts copying right away whereas anything explorer based is still counting files for 4 hours.  RichCopy is done way before explorer type file copy apps even start.

btw the CodeEssentials does look interesting if you want something automatic.  For manual sync the folder compare and sync in FreeCommander is simple and works well. Plus it's freeware.
