Title: How to open Windows Mail emails in Outlook 2007
Post by: dluby on October 24, 2009, 12:29 PM
Hi,

I recently moved to Windows 7. Before I did this I smartly (or so I thought) exported all my Windows Mail emails to eml files.  However when I installed Office 2007 including Outlook, I can't import the eml files as it doesn't seem to support them!

Has anybody found a free workaround to importing the eml files to Outlook?

Thanks

Damian

that's strange, can't you just drag the files and drop into your Outlook inbox pane? that's how i do it (with OE and Thunderbird).

It seems to just create a new email with the EML file as an attachment!

it seems like your problem is due to Windows 7 shipping without 'Windows Mail' and some other stuff that are normally bundled together. you can try the above hotfix, going the Vista route or just double-click an .eml file and associate it with MS Outlook.

Thanks for going into this in so much detail.  I'll try this out when I'm at home.
