If you like Thesauruses, as I do, don't miss Visual Thesaurus 3, which is a beautiful program - visually and conceptually elegant and excellent!  http://www.visualthesaurus.com/index.jsp?vt

Hey I like Visual Thesaurus (can't quite see me spending $30 on it though)

Another good similar app is WordWeb. There is a free version (http://wordweb.info/free/) and also the Pro version (which costs $19).

It is nice because it links in to all applications for spell and replace (just highlight a word and hit Ctrl/Alt+W and it pops up), plus there is a great anagram solving section etc.

The other program I really like from the same author (Anthony Lewis) is Crossword Compiler (see http://www.crossword-compiler.com/). This not only helps you to generate Crosswords in all sorts of styles and layouts but also produces interactive Webpages to solve them ...

Anthony is excellent too at constantly updating the programs with lots of ideas (Crossword Compiler has just been extended to generate Sudoku puzzles), and responds to emails very quickly.

i liked wordweb a lot and purchased it.  very nice clean no-nonsense dictionary with nice search ability.

but when author increased to version 3 and decided to charge registered users to upgrade it, i dropped it.

it's already up to version 4 and while its a good app, it increased major versions at the drop of a hat and charges registered users for upgrades - which i think is unreasonable.  call me bitter but i just don't think that's a nice way to treat people who pay for your software.

Whilst I agree (partly) he doesn't charge a lot for upgrades, and version 3 was release 18 months ago (with 2 free updates during that period). Version 2 was two years before that. There is a free version too ...

Crossword Complier seems to get free update at least once a month (often more) - usually with new bits added, not just bug fixes.

yeah, i remember that the upgrade wasn't too much - but it really rubbed me the wrong way.

Hi all,
I am new around here, and there so many interesting topics!
So I have tried Wordeb and I do like it a lot;
now since I also write quite a bit in spanish and french, I wonder if any of you could suggest a similar program for those languages.
Thanks

 :)

I personally use Babylon Pro 5.0 (http://www.babylon.com/). It's a very fast, nice, compact dictionary/thesaurus and supports tons of languages. I'm looking at Visual Thesaurus and it seems very interesting :). WordWeb... looks ok, but I don't know. With Babylon Pro in use already, I believe Visual Thesaurus is more interesting to look at. If you disagree, please tell me why :)

Hmmm.. after reading the info page on WordWeb, it does seem to be quite a bit more advanced than Babylon Pro. Hmmmmmmm.
