Samsung tablet screens to go 300dpi. Now we really are talking HD and getting a bit closer to how the 21st Century technology should be.

(I wish I had a bit of time to tell my mixed views about that iPad I bought. In summary, tablets are way more useful than I ever imaged - as an ebook/RSS/readitlater reading device. As a piece of design they are lacking in so many ways I don't know where to start - but the most obvious is that Apple has aimed the device at tiny little elfs with tiny little fingers - and lots of App developers seem to favour this mystical market of fairy folk too.
Tablets are going to be amazing in about 10 years time when they eventually make them for someone that doesn't have child-sized hands.)

How many dpi is the iResolution/eyeResolution or whatever it's called that Apple uses on the iPhone 4?

The iPhone 4 display is 330 dpi, higher then the first generation of laser printers @ 300 dpi...

So what's the big deal about Samsung using dpi that's still less than what Apple is using? Is it because Apple hasn't yet put the retina display on their iPad?

Probably the combination of the resolution more usual for a 30" monitor, combined with the 10.1" form factor of this display :-\
I suspect that Apple asked Samsung to make a 9.7" version with this resolution, but they couldn't produce them (yet), or didn't want to, to get an angle on the iPad with their own tablet. (But that didn't stop them before, AFAICS)

I dunno. I think I'd still love to have 300 dpi on my 26" monitor.

There's more 300 dpi coming to consumers, obviously, though this press announcement (http://global.epson.com/newsroom/2011/news_20110517.html) is 'merely' about e-paper, but it's cool, IMHO.

I have that problem. Everything is simply too small. Mobile software is designed for 10-year-old girls' fingers. Not mine.

I do agree, but the high resolution (& quality) screen of my Motorola Milestone (aka Droid) allows me and my big hands to use multicon (http://www.appbrain.com/app/multicon-widget/com.h9kdroid.multicon) to get more icons on the screen without problems 8)
