Find me: DOpus PCOpus DirOpus
EDIT: adjusted name

If anyone's on the fence about DOpus - give it a try. Sure it takes a bit of effort to get the hang of, but it's probably the most powerful file manager out there.
The support's pretty good too - active forum.
-
When I get the next computer, will the company grant me the rights to move my single-install_license DOpus to it?
:tellme:
-
Yes - I have several dopus licenses and have moved them without any issues.
-
-thanks.
Did you have to first ask them, or is it enough to merely uninstall and move?

I now have a 32-bits, but I want my next to be a 64-bits. Still easy?

I must admit, I didn't ask them - I simply installed a new version, pulled my license info from the Help->License Manager, and transferred it across. I imagine the new DOpus install will phone home to find out if it's allowed to run. In my case, it all worked right away, including moving one license from Vista-32 to Win7-64.
-
Just download the x64 installer, the license is the same for both. You don't need to ask, you've paid for a license to install one instance on one computer, it doesn't matter if it's x86 or x64.
Also, remember your license currently gives you the right to install it on a laptop you own and use. eg. A single instance license lets you install it on your desktop and your laptop concurrently.
Single, Dual and Five Install Licence packs include one free personal laptop Licence for the registered owner. In addition to the number of licensed installs the registered owner may install Opus on a single, personal laptop owned by the registered user.

I wonder if this means version 10 is about to come out? Its about that time.
-
I hope so, it would be so good if queued copy/move finally made it into DOpus without having to use third party software, eg. TeraCopy.
-
...and will they finally let me open an ftp connection as a tree? Actually, I must hop onto their forum and wibble about that. A whole bunch of us asked about it years ago, but the developer got all sniffy about it and not sure anything ever happened after that.

Does anybody remember what the upgrade price was from 8 to 9? Is this cheaper than the upgrade price will be for 9 to 10? I remember it wasn't cheap.

-wow, I didn't see this, before purchasing, so I was actually a little annoyed with myself, for spending money on a soon-to-be-replaced program. Now you have eased my heart!

hey Curt, that deal is great and Dopus would still be a bargain at full price ;) .. you will soon come to realize that
The usual showstopper and most common rants for most new users is the price and now there's no such excuse.
This be like the upgrade price for already licensed users and you get v9 for free at the discounted price for v10.
Make sure to bookmark their forum or subscribe it's feed as being a great asset, and Yes RTFM =)

This is still excuse for me since I would need to pay additional fee for FTP and USB (not even including dual). Too much to have it as TC alternative.
-
How is it for speed?
-
Not blazingly fast, compared to XYPlorer, especially in the find file area. But my major gripe with DO is that it requires a lot of configuration before being suited to your needs. I have not decided yet to jump in (I was an Opus user back on the Amiga ... and have a V6.5 license on Windows).
-
Speed as in startup? workflow?
As in workflow I work much faster and something that will evolve/improve over time,
I think 1st install of Dopus is quite plain so I've customized Dopus for my own needs,
Functions, GUI, Buttons, Dialogs, Filtering, Tabs, Layouts etc etc..
I bought my own license with USB/FTP but honestly i have not used them much, I still prefer FlashFXP.
Dopus will certanly replace many third party tools that you've might be using now.
---
When customizing Dopus frequently should backup the configuration file OFTEN - Settings/Backup and Restore
