Basically this site has created a ton of different linux distributions, pre-installed into http://vmware player packages.   So if you are interested in trying out different versions linux, this can be the easiest and safest way.

This site is dedicated to virtual appliances that we build for you to use FREE of charge.The virtual appliances are generally normal installs of the distro with some changes/updates and customizations by us. This means that you can go to the home-site for each distro to find information and the package list.

The easiest and safest?? Idk about that  :) But for VMWARE's official source for "appliances", check the Virtual Appliance Marketplace (http://www.vmware.com/appliances/)

You can find many things to try from nix OS's, to small dev environments (small nix os set up to do dev with python, etc.), to web servers, to.. well a lot.. Check it out if you are into virtualization stuffs.

Every single virtual appliance on the site is listed on the official VMware Appliance Marketplace site and I'm one of the biggest contributors to VMware since a long time. Professional software developers from all over the world are using our appliances for testing purposes and some user comments are quotet on the site. More than 5000 appliances are downloaded every month from the site and has been for the past 5-6 months. Perhaps a little check would be in place mitzevo, before posting. Always a good rule.
