I have a Windows Mobile 6.0 HTC Touch. Kind of rudimentary compared to my son's iPhone.

But I have been resisting the move simply because I have kind of gotten used to the rather dated interface and besides, I needed the handwriting recognition ability of Calligrapher which works very well on Windows Mobile.

CalliGrapher is an award winning natural handwriting recognition software that supports all handwriting styles - cursive, PRINT or MIXed. "

Although there's an iPhone equivalent for Calligrapher from the same company, I find that it cannot match me using a stylus on Windows Mobile rather than a fat finger on the iPhone for handwriting.

"WritePad is a new custom editor for iPhone that utilizes handwriting recognition input for the English language as well as iPhone keyboard for text entry, spell checker, context analyzer and standard editing operations such as copy, cut, paste, etc."

But I guess my problem will be solved if one of the Windows Phone manufacturer implement what is shown in the link below. Talk about having the cake and eating it at the same time ! And apparently it's all software driven and works with existing hardware available right now if I am not wrong.

By the way, I 1st saw it on

I would like to convert an DBF file to Excel and after making some modifications convert it back to a DBF format.

Can anyone suggest a freeware converter for this purpose.

Thanks

"Why Computers Can't Kill Post-Its
Lee Gomes, 01.22.09, 12:01 AM EST
MIT researchers argue that computers need to become as easy to use as those yellow sticky notes."

I thought this article may benefit all those To Do List & PIM fanatics that lurk around Donationcoder looking for the Ultimate Software to take care of this problem for them.

It is instructive that it mentions

""A lot of people spend a lot of time trying to figure out cool new things for computers to do," Karger says. "What's more interesting to me is figuring out how to get the computer out of the way.""
http://www.forbes.com/2009/01/21/postits-digital-tools-tech-intel-cz_lg_0122postits.html

It's even got a free Firefox extension (Oh dear another extension) :

"One stab at such a program is list.it, just released by Karger and his students. To the casual observer, the program looks like any of the legion of notepad programs on the market already--some of which are built into the Windows and Macintosh operating system."

Karger said, though, that list.it was written with the lessons learned from the Post-it study in mind, including the need for the program to be started with absolute minimal effort.

List.it is available at http://groups.csail.mit.edu/haystack/listit/ and requires the latest version of the Firefox Web browser. Karger says he considers the program more of a research project than a finished product. It's free for the taking, though users are strongly encouraged to send in their reactions to the code after spending time with it. You can even write the comments on a Post-it and fax them in.

I must add that I signed up but did not yet try it.

But it may interest some of you here.

When I learn a new program, I often find myself thinking, if only I can annotate the help file easily so that six months later (especially if it's a program I don't use regularly), I don't have to wrack my brain thinking, how did I solve that the previous time I had this problem.

Ideally this annotating utility should :

1. Enable me to highlight, bold, colorize (So I guess it sort of htm editor)
2. Be able to save the changes so that if I just hit F1 when using the program, I will see the annonated htm file.

Some programs I can think of do this are:
1. Microsoft Word,
2. AptEdit
3. EditPlus Pro

Other programs I can think of that does not quite fulfil criteria 2 are
1. Ultra Recall
2. Onenote
3. Surfulater
4. Evernote

How do others solve the "Please don't let me wrack my brain again problem".

Of course I recognize that if I install a program upgrade, the help files may be replaced - But that is another problem to solve.
