Title: Looking for simple "before & after" file/registry snapshotter
Post by: Lolipop Jones on May 26, 2008, 09:12 AM
To do this:
Take a snapshot.
Run my program.
Take another snapshot.
See a comparison of exactly what files and registry entries were changed.

This is for an almost trivial purpose, I'm setting up a new family PC and need to find out where some older games store all their user history files (unfortunately not in a defined save game location).  So a high cost system restore package is not really what I'm looking for.

Searched the forum and found one reference that sounded perfect to a program called "What Changed". Unfortunately the post is two years old and the program is apparently no longer available.

Thanks

LJ

Monitor System Changes (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=12796.msg107287#msg107287)

Regshot — über-useful, über-tiny, now über-opensource (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=12987.0)

Also, google for InCtrl5 (I think by pcmag ).

I use Total Uninstall. It has gone shareware but you can still find the last freeware edition through Google. Excellent app.

I think the best snapshot/diff tool ATM
in the freeware area is SystemExplorer.

What is his involvement? Where did you find this info?

Still investigating...

I know "mister"

Maybe you could ask him to explain this redirection issue.

Thanks for stoping by. This seems to be resolved on the homepage but I still encounter this redirection issue when visiting the forum (Here for example: Board index » System Explorer » SystemExplorer - Development » Minor Nit).

Also, is Systemexplorer a private project? I ask this because I noticed some files are hosted @ http://se.xacti.com/se/beta/.

There must be something wrong. What internet browser do you use ? There are flash ads on forum, but no redirection. User must click to banner for navigating to ads address. Could you please write more details about this issue ?

SystemExplorer is private project. Download count of SystemExplorer 1.4 was too high for our hosting provider. So, we must have files for download hosted on some alternative download server. XACTI is hosting our files for free.

Thanks mistercz for clearing this up. I use Opera and have ads & flash disabled/blocked.
