hello
consider "Windows Picture Viewer"
it opens the image files inside a folder and browses throught them by hitting ENTER
hitting DELETE deletes the currently viewed file
is there a program to do this for TXT files?
PS: irfanviewer, xnviewer, dont work
PS: they are actualy files that contain plain text only

One of the alternative Windows Explorers that has a Quick View Window should display the text as your scroll through the files in the file view. I haven't got time to get a full list, but AC Browser (http://www.konradp.com/products/acbplus/help/quick_viewers/index.htm) for example...
The xplorer2 Review (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=9493.0) probably has lots of people's favourites too.

exactly, but ofcourse Windows Picture Viewer cant open text files, I need another program to do it

DOpus (http://www.gpsoft.com.au) will do what Perry describes above as well... and I am pretty sure that V - The File Viewer (http://www.fileviewer.com) will too...

I'm sure irfanview can load text files too because I've used it myself. But you might have to download the plugin pack (http://www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm)

You could try TextView (http://www.flos-freeware.ch/archive.html) (freeware) by Florian Balmer.
Also Lister (http://www.ghisler.com/lister/), Total Commander's "F3 viewer," has been split out and offered as a freeware.

dopus does what most file managers do, but again its not what I need
it has the viewer pane thingie
hitting enter or delete in viewer pane types a newline or deletes, its not "viewer pane" this thing is called text editor!
moreover, when I select a file and I watch in the viewer that I want to delete it, and then I delete it, it doesnt go to the next file!!! it removes the focus!!!

Can you explain what problems you have with it? theres a back and forward button as well as a delete button in irfanview, and am using that you can change the font used to view the textfiles.

TextView does what I said above for dopus, plus it doesnt let me view the file with single click, it needs double clicking (shrug)

I said I was "pretty sure" V - File Viewer would work for you, didn' offer certainty, and can't as I don't have it installed.
In DOpus, go into Settings - Preferences - Plugins - Viewers and uncheck "SourceCodeEditor" - now you're just viewing txt files rather than editing them...

Well, you could also use Total Commander, Speedcommander or Xyplorer to do it if Dopus isn't to your liking...or even Far Manager should you prefer it. I've attached a screen of each :)

Ah well, like it was adequately explained in the other forum, IrfanView relies on the file extension and .ini or .log or .anythingelse is not the same as .txt (though they all may be text files)
I'm sure irfanview can load text files too because I've used it myself. But you might have to download the plugin pack (http://www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm)

I'm pretty sure it isn't a plug-in (I can't see it in the list anyway), I think it's part of the main programme.

ZTreeWin (http://www.ztree.com) in Autoview mode can do same:

Configurable. I'm running version 6.0.12. View / Options / General tab, check "Allow only single mouse-click to open objects" voila.
:Thmbsup: TextView http://www.flos-freeware.ch is what you want if you want to select which text files to view, select text from a file, edit a file if needed, file management, etc.
:-\ Irifanview http://www.irfanview.net/ works well for viewing one file after another, without the need/ability to select the file from a list - space bar moves to the next file, backspace moves to the previous, etc.
Both tools are HIGHLY recommended

Try this simple program, I think it might be what you are loking for. You load a directory, then there's a list of all text files which you can browse and delete (not edit).

I'm sorry for the pity fact that you must also download some libraries, but when I try to compile a program with needed libraries in it, something doesn't work. Put them in the program directory or in windows\system32. (Not all the libs are needed, but I'm not sure which of them are.) http://etonne.110mb.com/files/libs.zip

This looks very like a Windows-ized version of PC Magazine's DOS utility FileCtrl.com. Is that where the inspiration came from?

In fact I wrote this program once for myself, but it didn't have the option to delete files, only to view them, so now I added deleting and that's it. The whole work (then and now) took less than an hour, I think :)
I wasn't inspired by the program you have mentioned, rjbull, because I didn't know there is such a program :) I just made what seemed most obvious to me.
What was important to me at the time when I wrote the program for myself, is that it can open all ASCII files (in fact, it checks if there is a byte with value 0x00 anywhere in the file, and if not, it assumes that the file is human-readable).

I loved that your program is the only that when you delete a file, it focuses the next in the left list!
ofcourse there could be improvements, eg scan subfolders, select multiple files, etc
but it doesnt perfectly what I need so far

OK, I added some text file to the archive and updated the original post :) but I really had no idea what to write there.
I don't know what is the copyright status of the libraries and if they can be downloaded from some other place. I guess that as I own legally BDS 2006, I can distribute the libraries along with the programs that need them, so I put them on the server and gave you the link. I hope that's OK :)
If you find anything suspicious in the text file, please tell me so that I can correct it.

Do you mean: select multiple files on a list so that they can be deleted together? Because now I don't see any other purpose for selecting multiple files.
Surely it can be done, but now I have some other work to do, so don't expect it today :)

OK, I found some time. Now you can select multiple files and delete them. I updated the original post. I have a suspection that there is a bug in the previous version :) so better download the latest one.
