Title: Suggestion for forum navigation
Post by: Carol Haynes on September 08, 2005, 03:06 PM
Could you add in the 'up' and 'down' bottons in the forum config settings. (They are effectively top of page/bottom of page buttons)

I don't know about other people but I use the unread messages button most of the time, but it is at the top of the screen, meaning long threads have to be scrolled back to the top to go back to the button.

Can't remember - I have been using 1.1 so it may be specific to that version.

It was in the look and feel options (sorry can't remember the specific name of the options as my server is down at the mo).

How have you placed the menu bar at the top of this forum (above the Blue banner)?

Look in the light blue bar that runs across the top and bottom of the thread... there are "Go Up" and "Go Down" buttons in it.  Seems kind of nice.

And to think just two days ago I realized that home and end took you to the top and bottom of a page (opera 8.1).... oh well!

i don't really know what you 'FireFox' people can do, but with 'Maxthon' you can assign mouse gestures for different actions.

without going into all the ones i've got set, here is what i do with such things:

right mouse button click + drag up = jump to top of page.

right mouse button click + drag down = jump to bottom of page.

obviously this then works with any page - you don't need buttons or keyboards.

There are various mouse gesture extensions for FireFox.

i thought there was, Carol, i just didn't want to check.

i think really what i should have tried to say is that there are these things called 'mouse gestures' and i get the impression that not many people use them - or don't even know they are there.

pity, as i think it does ease web browsing when you start using them.

You're quite right.

I had mouse gestures in FireFox some time ago, reinstalled my system and forgot to get the extension again ... duh!

Actually I am quite taken with Maxthon and am going to give it a whirl for a while ...

Mouser, thanks for adding the go-up go-down buttons suggested by CarolHaynes.(https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/esmileys/gen0/Medium/brawa.gif)    Like painting the room and then noticing the carpet should be cleaned, though, I now see another refinement that would make navigation even easier.  Is it possible to install the "unread posts" button at the bottom of the file (where now resides such things as "mark as unread" and "send to")?  With the addition, we can easily get from top to bottom, but have to get back up to the beginning to return to the unread posts page.
