Can anyone point me to a Firefox extension that will remember your chosen font/text setting across the board, like every page you load is -2 on the Text Size Decrease option OR that will remember your settings on a per page basis. Either would work as -2 steps down is what I prefer to use for text size. Doing this makes me not have to force the font used on every page loaded but rather the font that was intended by each website.-vegas (February 22, 2006, 12:16 PM)

I'm new to Firefox after having tried it about a year ago and going back to Maxthon. I'm now using both. One thing I love about Maxthon is the ability to store "groups" of bookmarks together and open them all from one link. This is extended with the ability to open a group of pages at startup (rather than just one home page). Does anyone know if there is a way to do this in Firefox (or an extension that will enable this feature)?
Thanks,

FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.

(...) the open source Firefox Preloader. It can be set to startup when you turn your computer on, and with it Firefox will always be at your beckon call. If there are multiple versions of Firefox installed on your computer you can decide which one you would like it to work with.https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=129464
This feature does come at a cost though. When the preloader first started up on my computer it used about 4MB of memory itself, and Firefox was using about 10MB. Those aren’t drastic numbers, but for those of you conscious about the memory usage you might want to think twice before using the preloader. Also, when you close Firefox it doesn’t actually close all the way, instead it’s just tucked away so that it will still start quickly the next time you go to use it.

All Customized Links (https://addons.mozilla.org/da/firefox/addon/1920) is an "okay" substitute for half of the Maxthon Start Page, so my biggest problem with Firefox is that the only add'on I have found that comes close to the Maxthon toolbar for "favorites programs" is Launchy (http://gemal.dk/mozilla/launchy.html), and the author gave up updating this program two years ago, even though I think it still needs a lot in userfriendliness. The prime feature of Launchy is still working, more or less, but it is a nightmare to add links to other programs if you are not a coder. And it is for such a feature, links to other programs, I became interested in the first place.
So I came here to ask if 'you' know of a program / an add'on that will add such a feature to Firefox, making it easy to reach my favourite programs from the inside of Firefox 2, please?

In addition to the name, some other information can be added to the list:
* The version number.
* The description.

* The add-on ID.
* The application (Firefox, Thunderbird...) min and max version.
* The add-on status (incompatible/disabled).

It adds a "Copy As Html" and "Copy As Plain Text" to the context (right-click) menu. It is useful if you want to copy the text or underlying html from a web page into documents, posts or other applications.
Canaware NetNotes is a handy tool which offers you the ability to capture, save and organize your favorite Web pages into your own knowledge base.
You can capture a complete Web page or the portion you like such as images, specific paragraphs or source code snippets by a right-clicking in the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox , and the potential dangerous scripts hidden in the Web page will be removed automatically.
You can also categorize, organize, view, edit and search the articles in the knowledge base with a WYSIWYG article editor.

Contrary to what's said on the Scrapbook+ page, you don't really have to uninstall Scrapbook to install Scrapbook+. Just remember not to have them both enabled at the same time. So you can switch back and forth to compare if you like. They use the same data folder and preference settings. Before that changes, it's safe to use either one.
By chance, do you have an idea what would happen if both were installed at the same time? (Assuming you don't activate either one.)-Paul Keith (March 25, 2009, 05:41 AM)

Not sure I understand you here. Didn't I say you can have them both installed? I do, as a matter of fact. While I use only Scrapbook+ now, I keep Scrapbook on board so it'll be auto-updated, prompting me to check out what's happening to Scrapbook. So far there have been only fixes to bugs I haven't seen in SB+ (lucky or SB+ fixed them already). But if they diverge someday, I'll reevaluate.-mwang (March 25, 2009, 03:40 PM)
Again I'm not sure I understand. If you don't want to use Wired-Marker for "live" pages, then don't. You don't need a tweak to achieve that. And yet I don't see the point of using Wired-Marker to highlight things in pages captured by Scrapbook, which has its own handy highlight tools. But, if you insist, then of course you can do that. Wired-Marker can be used on anything you load into Firefox (e.g., your own html pages), as long as the URL (path for local file) stays the same.
I was assuming you had one clicked as disabled in the Firefox Add-ons menu.-Paul Keith (March 25, 2009, 05:32 PM)

It is quite well documented (commands are mainly in the "various" category of the documentation) and there is a wiki too http://vimperator.cutup.org/index.php?title=Configuration
2. Another one I like is the secure login extension. The default password manager shipped with firefox always leave me unsatisfied. It feels somewhat awkward and insecure. The secure login extension prevents prefilling the form and can also temporally disable javascript to prevent cross-site scripting. Best of its feature, imho, is that it is much easier and snappy to use. It automatically highlight the form. You press Alt-N and it not only automatically fills it but also presses enter for you. If you have two accounts, it offers a box to select one and off you go. Very Handy!

Oh yes, I did just go there. Hands-down, without a skerrick of doubt, AutoCopy is the best Firefox extension. It may also be the best Firefox extension you've never heard of. Here's what it does, and then I'll tell you what makes it so great.
Developed at Mozilla, AutoCopy is a lightweight, single-feature add-on that copies any text you highlight to your clipboard. No more hitting CTRL+C, or using the context menu. That in and of itself is not so revolutionary. The feature has been around for a while in other programs. What makes it the must-have extension is that there's practically no other reason to highlight text on a Web page except to copy it to your clipboard.

What makes it the must-have extension is that there's practically no other reason to highlight text on a Web page except to copy it to your clipboard.Oh yes, there is a reason. I've quit using nightly builds and early betas because too many of my extensions break which causes pandemonium over here as I don't function well without my extensions.-Innuendo (July 23, 2009, 12:47 PM)
A lot of people love LastPass, but I started using AI Roboform a long, long, long time before LastPass existed. I've never bothered trying LastPass as Roboform works well for me. If I ever run into something I want to do that Roboform won't I will give LastPass a try.I use RoboForm and am very happy with it, but I was delighted to discover LastPass (thanks to this forum) because RoboForm doesn't work on Opera. Though Firefox is my default browser, I keep going back and forth between FF and Opera. Opera is much quicker, and I have problems using Firefox at a number of blog sites and at least one forum site where, intermittently, I can't get the cursor to go inside a comment/response box with Firefox. I don't have this problem with Opera. Since I do use Opera a fair amount, I am delighted that LastPass works so well with it.-Innuendo (July 23, 2009, 12:51 PM)
And I looking for an extension which can tracks and find whenever our discussing-thread ( forum ) has new post.
If you are using a sophisticated form fill app then it's not for you. But if you use Opera Wand and want to make it a bit more secure without a lot of hassle, you are welcome to use RunOperaWand (http://www.FavesSoft.com/RunOperaWand.zip)Hi, Miles. I'm not sure whether you wrote this in response to what I said or just in general, but I thought I'd mention that I don't use Opera's Wand and in fact don't use any automatic form filler with any browser. If I did, I'd certainly want security features like the one you've created.-MilesAhead (July 23, 2009, 07:19 PM)

I've installed Opera quite a few times, but I always find the Opera browsing environment stifling. I guess I just don't do things the "Opera workflow" way. Couple that with the fact that the author is so militant about providing any sort of way for add-ons/extensions and I will just stick with Firefox.Firefox is my default browser, but I was surprised to find that a number of the things that I needed extensions to accomplish in Firefox could be done in Opera without needing an extension (e.g., Paste and Go; Open this page in IE; Open this page in FF) or could be done with what are essentially extensions (AdBlock for Opera, FlashBlock for Opera). I do agree that extensions give Firefox more customizability, but they're vulnerable each time there's an upgrade. I was very frustrated, for example, to find that the "OperaView" extension that I use a lot in Firefox stopped working when FF moved to 3.5.1. Back in the days when I used Powermarks, I used to hold my breath each time there was a FF upgrade, since the Powermarks extension usually took a little while to catch up.-Innuendo (July 24, 2009, 10:52 AM)

Maybe extension writers are getting the idea it's better to get your program to working status before a new Firefox version is finalized rather than before. I do have MR Tech Toolkit installed, but I haven't had to use it to make an extension work for a very long time.Yes, I agree that the situation has gotten somewhat better. However, the OperaView problem is driving me nuts. I downloaded Mr. Tech Toolkit after seeing you and other mention it, but I wasn't able to figure out how I might use it to get the OperaView extension to work again. It works the first time you tell FF to open the page in Opera, but the next time, an error box pops up that says on the title [JavaScript Application] and then the message "OperaView was unable to run Opera Browser. Check the path and try again." It always finds it the first time, but not after that.-cyberdiva (July 25, 2009, 07:18 PM)

I did a few 32 bit windows shell extensions but the design wasn't the best. I reworked some of them, but just as I get them perfected, 32 bit shell is going obsolete. So all that work is pretty much unusable on my primary machine.-MilesAhead (October 16, 2009, 05:38 PM)

btw anyone getting weird errors about having to restart Firefox because of Microsoft Presentation Foundation? All of a sudden I'm getting this on installs that have been stable for months. I read the GHacks and MS articles how to remove the Firefox Agent thing that causes the problem, but there's no indication it's there. The registry setting they tell to look for is not there. The folder in the .NET structure they say to look for is not there. It's not in the AddOns list. It just pops up whenever it feels like it to make me restart Firefox.-MilesAhead (October 17, 2009, 03:33 PM)

Ironically clicking the link brought a bad certificate error and I had to add a security exception in Firefox before I was allowed to view the page.-Carol Haynes (October 18, 2009, 04:58 AM)
Call me a conspiracy theorist but does this sound a little planned to make sure any security issues in IE also affect Firefox so that MS isn't disadvantaged in the browser wars!
They say 64 bit is already protected so you don't need Sandboxie.64bit itself doesn't offer much in regards to protection unless you're running UAC (or, in case of XP, a limited user account) - PatchGuard is a decent thing, but it's a damn shame MS aren't offering legitimate hook points for it.-MilesAhead (October 18, 2009, 04:30 PM)

We mentioned the Java Console Extension as one of those extensions that a program (in this case Oracle’s Java) installs into Firefox without the user’s knowledge. Unless you are a Java Developer, this extension serves no real purpose for most Firefox users. Many users find they have multiple Java Console extensions and some (or all) are disabled. However, there is no way to remove the extension(s) via the Firefox add-ons manager. A long time ago we posted on how to remove the extension and thought it may be a good idea to post it again.Especially since some users may want to perform a little housekeeping on their Firefox profile before they update to the next version.
I have followed these instructions and deleted the offending files. When FF restarts the extensions are no longer there.I recently updated Java to 6.0.29, and then that console and Java Console 6.0.26 were both in my extension list. I was able to uninstall 6.0.26 using the Firefox context menu for that extension (neither "Uninstall" nor "Disable" were greyed out).-IainB (November 08, 2011, 08:27 AM)
I no longer remember why I removed Lazarus, so forgive me for just asking:Curt, I have Lazarus 2.3 [646] on my computer with Firefox 8.0.1 and it works fine. I've never tried the Beta. In general, I stay away from Betas unless there's a compelling reason to try one, and I had no compelling reason with Lazarus. To me, this 1 extension is the make or break feature of firefox to me. It turns a browser with poor tab support to one with amazing tab support. (note: there are a couple other tab extensions for firefox, they may be equally good for all i know, but you NEED one of these otherwise ff sucks, imho).
So if you are a tabbed-browser fan, and have been dissapointed with plain firefox, you need to try tab mix plus, it's just packed with cool options.-mouser (September 24, 2006, 11:55 AM)

===NOTICE===
After releasing a few updates, but far less than we wanted, we’ve made the decision to stop the OptimizeGoogle Project.
The reasons for the decision were that there were not enough people on the team to keep it going. Google is changing things every day and it has become more and more frustrating to look at all the functions go broke piece by piece.
The code will remain GPL, perhaps another person or team is interested in picking this up.
For now, thank you for all your patience, feedback and support.

OTOH, it has that "GhostRank" thing that's disabled by default, and which one should probably not enable. And unless it either doesn't blocks the sites it says it claims it's blocking or sells the visitor-data of blocked sites to some central list of people, well, it's certainly better than NO protection.-TaoPhoenix (December 22, 2012, 01:35 PM)

I have to admit. I thought it was a cool idea. Until I tried it and saw the icons. Would be a lot cooler if the icons looked cool. But it was easier for me to read the status bar text than to squint and see that little zipper that meant it was a zip file. :)So? Enable the status bar and watch the hover text. That's certainly the way it works for me. (For example, it just copied my message here, even though all I did was post it. What is TagSpaces?
A Firefox add-on, which allows you to navigate and organize your local files with the help of tags.
A extensible platfrom providing a web based user interface for your hard drive.
A purely locally running application, which does not need a web server.
Key Features:
File browsing, viewing, editing and tagging (without the need of a database)
Different visualization possibilities of directory structures and files
Portability of the tags, due to the fact, that tags are saved in the filename
Typical Use cases:
Evernote alternative
Personal wiki
Data i.e. file management
I believe it is a file manager that can tag every downloaded file, and replace EvernoteLooks rather intriguing. Shall give it a whirl, and see.

Lifehacker Faceoff: The Best Start Pages for Your Browser
Firefox users don't have quite as amazing a selection as Chrome users, but its still chock full of new tab extensions for you to try out. Our favorite is FVD Speed Dial, which provides both great looks and a ton of features.
The Best: FVD Speed Dial
FVD Speed Dial is what you make of it. You can add new shortcuts and let them load previews of their sites, or give them custom logos to make the start page really pop. It also has built-in logos for popular sites, and while the list of sites isn't huge, you can choose from a ton of different thumbnails for each site, meaning you can make some pretty snazzy looking pages.
It also has a ton of options for how the page works, letting you add or remove a search bar, a "most visited" page, recently closed tabs, not to mention choose a background and customize the color of everything you see. It isn't quite as simple to use as its Chrome brethren, but with a bit of fiddling, you have the potential to make a pretty awesome looking page that behaves exactly like you want it to.-lifehacker
regarding Speed Dial - maybe test "FVD Speed Dial with Full Online Sync":Nor do I. But I tried it a while back and there was something about it that made me want to switch back to the original Speed Dial. So I did. :)

PopVideo (http://weknownet.com/popvideo/)
PopVideo is a completely free add-on that pops out your web videos into resizable windows. Use our lightweight and powerful add-on to create a more immersive and enjoyable video viewing experience.
Brought to you by the crazy code Ninjas at WeKnowNet, the folks who created EatMyCookies, PowerZoom and EaseLink, PopVideo will transform your internet video consumption habits.
PopVideo takes an ordinary video embedded on a web page, and pops it out of the page, allowing you to resize and move your video around the page. Why be a sucker and watch a small, sad video stuck in the middle of a page when you can POP it out and live the big cinema video life?

Dear press,
no, it is not OK to install this add-on along with the Top 20 or something add-ons and publish articles singling out the "biggest memory wasters" or something along the lines of this. This is wrong, superficial, sensationalist and outright wrong.
Adblock Plus, being the most popular add-on, using 20-30 MB of memory is not a problem. Add-ons that may use hundreds of mega bytes of memory with steadily growing memory usage *may* be a problem and this add-on is intended to find exactly these kinds of issues more easily.-Nils Maier

There be dragons here!
Using Pale Moon Commander to change advanced preferences is potentially dangerous and can leave your browser profile in a potentially unusable state. If you don't know what a setting is for, don't touch it. A number of the preferences made accessible through the add-on can prevent proper operation of the browser.
Because all the add-on does is change preferences, you can, at all times, reset the preferences by starting Pale Moon with the SHIFT key depressed, and selecting "Reset preferences to Pale Moon defaults". Of course this will also reset any other modified preferences you may have.
Use of this add-on is at all times at your own risk. I do not give warranty or guarantees, and it is provided "as-is" although I've done my best to make sure it works as-intended.

Privacy Badger (http://www.eff.org/privacybadger) blocks spying ads and invisible trackers. It's there to ensure that companies can't track your browsing without your consent.
This extension is designed to automatically protect your privacy from third party trackers that load invisibly when you browse the web. We send the Do Not Track header with each request, and our extension evaluates the likelihood that you are still being tracked. If the algorithm deems the likelihood is too high, we automatically block your request from being sent to the domain. Please understand that Privacy Badger is in beta, and the algorithm's determination is not conclusive that the domain is tracking you.
Our extension has three states. Red means block the tracker. Yellow means that we don't send cookies or referers to the tracker. Green means unblocked (probably because the third party does not appear to be tracking you). You can click on the Privacy Badger icon in your browser's toolbar if you wish to override the automatic blocking settings. Or, you can browse in peace as Privacy Badger starts finding and eating up web trackers one by one.
Nothing can stop the Privacy Badger from eating cookies when it's hungry!
Privacy Badger is a project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Chrome Web Store - ALL SEEING EYE (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/all-seeing-eye/kiopjipnmfcpdambegpfmggaffjmhnkd)
Record All Browsing in Screenshots & Full Text. Search For Anything At Any Time. Never Forget Where You Read Something. 100% Private
How to use:
After installing, browse to a few web sites of your choice (e.g. yahoo.com, facebook.com, etc) so that the browser creates some new entries in your web history. After that go to Show All History from your browser's History menu
Every time you see a new page while browsing it will be saved as a screenshot and all its contents will be remembered so you can go to Show All History from your browsers History menu and search for things in your web history, with a visual interface that helps you find stuff.
NEW: you may now use tags in the Options tab to tell the extension not to capture certain sites.
What it does:
If you want to remember everything you see on the web and have a way to search your web history with full content then this extension will help you do just that. The normal browser history does not save the text inside the pages you visit so you can't search for anything except the title and URL. This extension saves and indexes all the text in all the pages you visit so you can find everything in your history with a few keystrokes. It also takes screenshots of all pages so you can locate to the right page with visual memory. It makes it easier to find stuff that you've already come across in your browsing, so you don't have to search for it again on the web.
I developed this extension to help me find information I come across much more easily than having to search for it again on the web. If it's in my history, I can find it. This has given me all seeing powers. You can have that power too, dear user.
This extension does NOT send any of your browsing info to the cloud or anywhere. It keeps everything on your machine. It will respect your privacy and not work in Incognito mode, so all your browsing in Incognito mode is never saved.
This extension is Open Source. If you're a developer feel free to examine the code and ask any questions or submit issues directly on Github: https://github.com/idibidiart/AllSeeingEye
Currently, only English is supported for searchable content. Other languages will added in the future.
... today I came across this:Chrome extension All Seeing Eye indexes all text in your Web history - CNET (http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/chrome-extension-all-seeing-eye-indexes-all-text-in-your-web-history/#ftag=CAD5457c2c), and found in the Chrome Web Store:-IainB (June 17, 2014, 08:56 PM)

WikiWand
(...)
Wikiwand (www.wikiwand.com) is a web site which skins the standard Wikipedia content with a much more modern and professional look and feel. Instead of browsing the online encyclopaedia via the normal wikipedia.org address, use www.wikiwand.com instead. You get the same content, but with a much better presentation (as you can see from the screen shot below).
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
There's also a free browser add-in which, the makers claim, allow pages to load around 3 times faster. But even without the add-in, Wikiwand certainly does do a great job of bringing an internet institution up to date. And because of all Wikipedia's content is freely licenced, there are no legal issues over copyright.-techsupportalert

I personally prefer Privacy Badger by the electronic frontier foundation (the name in privacy on the web in my opinion..they don't use your data for anything). https://www.eff.org/privacybadger
From their F.A.Q.:
What is Privacy Badger?
Privacy Badger is a browser add-on that stops advertisers and other third-party trackers from secretly tracking where you go and what pages you look at on the web. If an advertiser seems to be tracking you across multiple websites without your permission, Privacy Badger automatically blocks that advertiser from loading any more content in your browser. To the advertiser, it's like you suddenly disappeared.
How is Privacy Badger different to Disconnect, Adblock Plus, Ghostery, and other blocking extensions?
Privacy Badger was born out of our desire to be able to recommend a single extension that would automatically analyze and block any tracker or ad that violated the principle of user consent; which could function well without any settings, knowledge or configuration by the user; which is produced by an organization that is unambiguously working for its users rather than for advertisers; and which uses algorithmic methods to decide what is and isn't tracking.
Although we like Disconnect, Adblock Plus, Ghostery and similar products (in fact Privacy Badger is based on the ABP code!), none of them are exactly what we were looking for. In our testing, all of them required some custom configuration to block non-consensual trackers. Several of these extensions have business models that we weren't entirely comfortable with. And EFF hopes that by developing rigorous algorithmic and policy methods for detecting and preventing non-consensual tracking, we'll produce a codebase that could in fact be adopted by those other extensions, or by mainstream browsers, to give users maximal control over who does and doesn't get to know what they do online.
I use a different strategy for this type of situation when using some text editors -- creating a new view of the same document and navigating in the new one. For Firefox, something similar used to be possible with an extension that allowed one to split the currently visible window / tab (?). Not sure if this is still possible...
Update: I think the following or its predecessor was what I used:
Fox Splitter (http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/foxsplitter/index.html.en)
Update 2: Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work with FF 31.0...-ewemoa (August 28, 2014, 09:52 PM)
Fox Splitter was a fine add-on. Too bad it has not been upgraded.
With the release of Firefox 1.5 Final, I find myself more willing to explore Firefox once again. Only problem is, we all know it takes at least 10 extensions to achieve the features of an Opera or Maxthon-mackyy20 (October 17, 2014, 04:51 AM)

Archaic methods of tracking users via cache and cookies mechanisms are always there. But of late, there has been a new invasive method for tracking users across the Internet – Canvas fingerprinting. The mechanism takes advantage of the Canvas API in modern browsers, which interacts with a computer’s graphics chip and allows users to play games and interact with webpages. Here, invisible images are delivered to the browser with malicious intentions and then sent back to the server with a “fingerprint” of the computer and location.
If you are a Firefox user, spare few minutes and read this post, chances of you falling prey to this web’s trickiest privacy threat could be reduced if not removed to a large extent. ... (read more at the link)

...More often than not once you run a few FF in various places sync just scrambles everything into a pile-MilesAhead (February 26, 2015, 10:32 AM)
When I read that, I thought I should mention that my experience of using FF (Beta update channel) is that, quite to the contrary to what you stated, FF Sync works like a charm.
The only real problem I have had with FF tends to be what is an apparently common recurring problem that, on the beta update channel, with all the frequent updates, FF performance tends to occasionally decline/misbehave to the extent that the only way to fix it is to start FF up in base form (i.e., without any add-ons, etc.), and then re-install all the add-ons and Greasemonkey scripts etc. manually. I got the advice to do that from some helpful forum/blog posts, and it turned out to be good advice.
However, there was a real problem with following that advice - you are then forced into a seriously tedious exercise of manually re-installing all the add-ons and other stuff, which is a proverbial PITA.
I discovered that I was able to automate it all (except for Greasemonkey scripts) through the use of FF Sync, which automatically re-installs all the add-ons and other stuff (e.g., including bookmarks) that you can choose to sync. You may have to manually reset some settings, but that's about it.
However, I had to reinstall the Greasemonkey scripts manually, which was another PITA. Then at some stage a Greasemonkey update introduced an option to "Enable Firefox Sync for User Scripts", so that got rid of the PITA.
FF Sync has been operating thus, apparently faultlessly, for me and for a long time. I changed to the latest version of FF Sync some time back when they first introduced it. Sync has enabled me to sync FF smoothly across 3 computers, even with up to 3 different users sharing/syncing things like the FF bookmarks on those computers. FF Sync is pretty smart.
The only surprising thing I find about FF Sync is that it doesn't scramble the stuff up.-IainB (February 26, 2015, 01:42 PM)

The only surprising thing I find about FF Sync is that it doesn't scramble the stuff up.I guess it depends how you use it. But Mozilla has several requests like mine for overwrite variations of send and receive rather than just everything a merge. How I was using it was to install FF in a VM, then set up sync to have all bookmarks and addons. But I kept getting blowback to my Windows host OS FF. Stuff like duplicate Bookmarks menu entries, and just a general mess.-IainB

Open in Wayback Machine is a very cool addition to the browser. A button and context menu item to open URL in the Wayback Machine, service to view previous versions of websites from archive.org.
How many times have you opened a dead link before? Do you know about the Wayback Machine, amazing web service from guys at archive.org which silently spiders the Web and periodically remembers how pages looked like before?
This extension is a shorthand for easy access of features of Wayback Machine.
Button in toolbar, which opens currently opened page in Wayback Machine. If you already opened the dead link, just one click and you probably will get the content you wanted after all.
Context menu item, which opens given URL link in the web page in Wayback Machine. If you already know or see that the link is dead (Wikipedia is pretty anal in this case), you can open this link straight in the archive.org UI for searching the past.
Pick up the Open in Wayback Machine in the Firefox Add-ons website (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-in-wayback-machine/).

Even if you don’t care about the privacy implications of tracking cookies and other technologies sites use to identify us online, you might want to turn on Tracking Protection in Firefox anyway for a potential big speed boost.
Former Mozilla software engineer Monica Chew and Computer Science researcher Georgios Kontaxis took a look at the top 200 news sites (according to Alexa) and found a median 44% reduction in page load time, as well as a 39% reduction in data usage when the optional Tracking Protection is turned on.
Tracking Protection actively blocks domains known to track users. You might not see huge performance benefits for all sites, depending on how much each site relies on third-party content and similar extras from tracking domains. Still, with a range of between 20% and 90% decreased page load times according to the study—and better privacy control—it’s worth a shot.
To turn on Tracking Protection in Firefox:
Type in about:config in the location bar and hit enter.
You’ll see a warning about possibly voiding your warranty. Hit “I’ll be careful, I promise!” to continue.
Search for privacy.trackingprotection.enabled.
Double-click that to toggle the value to true.
You can read the researchers’ paper (PDF) here.

I see no reason to favor any particular privacy data blocking method over another in the core. People can choose what they want. If you want the same functionality baked into Firefox, then install the disconnect (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/disconnect/) extension. If you prefer something else, then you can take your pick of others
Note about using Disconnect with other filtering add-ons like Adblock Plus:
Disconnect is compatible with other filtering add-ons, but if you want Disconnect to show blocking info, first uninstall then reinstall any other filtering add-ons you have (i.e., Disconnect must be added first).

As online advertising is becoming more automatic, universal and unsanctioned, AdNauseam works to complete the cycle by automating all ad-clicks universally and blindly on behalf of the target audience. Working in coordination with your ad blocker, AdNauseam quietly clicks every blocked ad, registering a visit on the ad networks databases. As the data gathered shows an omnivorous click-stream, user profiling, targeting and surveillance becomes futile.[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]-adnauseam
AdNauseam is a browser extension designed to obfuscate browsing data and protect users from surveillance and tracking by advertising networks. AdNauseam joins a broader class of software systems that attempt to serve ethical, political, and expressive ends. In light of the industry's failure to achieve consensus on a Do Not Track standard, or to otherwise address the excesses of network tracking, AdNauseam allows individual users to take matters into their own hands, fighting back against unilateral surveillance. Taken in this light, the software follows an approach similar to that of TrackMeNot, employing obfuscation as a strategy to shift the balance of power between the trackers and the tracked. Config Descriptions
Shows source comments for advanced application preferences in about:config
The about:config page in Firefox and other Mozilla software lists a litany of default and stored preferences, some better managed through options dialogs, the rest hidden for advanced users. Tinkering with the settings in here generally requires you to look up what they are online. Mozilla does, however, have its own documentation for many of its preferences in source comments in the default preferences files. This addon lets you see them in about:config.
This extension provides a quick way to view the information about preferences that is already shipped with your browser. For more detail and information about other preferences without source comments, you'll still need to look them up online:

Pale Moon 25.6.0 (2015-07-27) Release notes.
Fixes/changes:
Canvas anti-fingerprinting option: Pale Moon now includes the option to make canvas fingerprinting much more difficult. By setting the about:config preference canvas.poisondata to true, any data read back from canvas surfaces will be "poisoned" with humanly-imperceptible data changes. By default this is off, because it has a large performance impact on the routines reading this data.
Added a feature to allow icon fonts to be used even when users disallow the use of document-specified fonts. This should retain full navigation for icon-font heavy websites (no more dreaded "boxes" with hex codes) when custom text fonts are disabled.
Added a feature to prevent screen savers from kicking in when playing full-screen HTML5 video. This is currently not yet operational on Linux because of stability issues we've run into on that OS, but Windows should properly benefit from this change.
The "autocomplete=off" parameter for signon forms is now completely ignored by default, to keep the user in control of their browser's behavior and allowing credentials to be saved if wished. If you prefer the previous behavior, allowing a website to determine whether autocomplete should be allowed or not, then change the about:config preference signon.ignoreAutocomplete to false.

On reading it, I realised that the ScrapBook :: Add-ons for Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/scrapbook/) could probably meet the requirements in the OP.
I often use use Scrapbook to save a web page and any downloadable files linked to on that page at the same time. It usually works just fine.
Each clipped page goes as a set of small files into a uniquely-named date-time folder in the Scrapbook directory, and is indexed and/or searchable through the Scrapbook manager and Windows Desktop Search, Everything, etc.

I'd recommend you try it out. It's an amazingly useful little information capture and management tool.
There are forks off the Scrapbook Add-on, which look quite useful (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=scrapbook&appver=40.0&platform=other), though they don't meet my peculiar requirements.

Pale Moon does not work with XP or I would switch.-holt (January 28, 2016, 06:48 PM)
This version of Pale Moon is optimized specifically for use on Intel Atom™ processors and compatible with the Windows XP and Server 2003 operating systems.
These builds are specifically optimized for Intel Atom™ processors, and are not recommended for regular Intel or AMD processors on current operating systems (Vista or higher). The extra optimizations only work on Atom processors and will execute a little slower than the normal version of Pale Moon on a non-Atom processor (but otherwise run just fine). In general use, you will likely not notice much (if any) difference if run on a non-Atom processor that is likely more powerful, anyway.

Anyone know a trick to reduce the extension button delay on startup? I have FF set to open about:blank and have Fast Dial as New Tab page. But when I start FF it hangs for a few seconds as the extensions display their buttons in the AddOn Bar. While this is going on FF will not open a new tab with a url. It is like it is frozen for a few seconds.Yers, FF releases (I'm on the Beta channel) seem to have been getting incrementally and progressively more sluggish over the last couple of years. It's bloatware now and has got to the point where I am seriously considering dumping FF and going to another browser.
This really bogs down my system startup routine.
Even after all the buttons show, pressing the Fast Dial button gets no reaction for a couple of seconds. I don't remember FF being this lame. Seems to be really clunky in versions over 30. The version number changes so fast it is hard to remember where things started to go wrong.

Can I purchase Blur premium if I am not located in the U.S.?
For security reasons, we have pretty strict credit card authorization procedures, and one of those procedures is an AVS check, which we require to verify and charge a card that is put on file with us. Unfortunately, the majority of non-US card issuers do not support an AVS check, so most international users are typically not able to sign up and purchase a premium subscription.
In addition, Blur’s premium features are limited outside of the U.S., as masked cards only work with a valid U.S. billing address and masked phone only works in specific non-U.S. territories. However, the ability to backup & sync your account info is a premium feature that would work for anyone in any country.
If located outside the U.S., you may be able to sign up successfully via our mobile app (through GooglePlay or the Appstore), as we don't handle the subscription billing in those cases - but because we don't handle the subscription billing in these cases, we also cannot offer you any discount for the lack of full premium coverage.
If you’d like to be placed on a list of international users who wish to be notified when the full set of Blur’s premium features are available in their country, please email us at support[a]getabine[.]com with your country included, and we’ll be sure to contact you when Blur premium is available in your area!
How can I get Blur Mobile?
Clickhereto text yourself a link to install Blur to your iOS or Android device.
Why do I have a charge on my bank statement from Abine? What is it for?
The charge you're seeing could mean one of two things
You purchased Blur premium: If the charge is for $5, $39, $59, or $79, that is a charge for a Blur premium subscription. It's also possible you purchased premium for one of our older products such as MaskMe or DoNotTrackMe.
You purchased a Masked Card: As soon as you create a Masked Card, you will be charged by Abine. This is because Masked Cards work similarly to gift cards, meaning that you're charged to load the funds onto the Masked Card, just like if you were to purchase a gift card. If you created a Masked Card, but didn't use it, click here and then select 'Refund Card Balance' from your Masked Cards page.
If none of this sounds familiar, please contact support with details of the charge before you file a dispute against Abine/Blur, as we are happy to help resolve any payment issues directly.
How do I refund a Masked Card back to my credit card?
Navigate to the Masked Cards section of your Privacy Dashboard, or simply clickhere.
Click "Refund Card Balance" next to the Masked Card in question. The refund will be reflected to your real card in 2-5 business days.-Blur FAQ

"Can be useful, but make the browser too slow: opening and closing tabs became slow (in particular when a lot of them are manipulated simultaneously), and closing the browser took 37s instead of 7s. I suggest enabling it only when necessary."Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to have these tools running all the time as they present a potentially heavy overhead cost when they variously consume CPU/RAM/Disk resources and may even tend to take priority interrupt and access to resources, thus adversely affecting (increasing) real-time resource utilisation and response times.

Think Slimjet is the only way at the present time, to get Google Keep extensions the way they can perform on Google Chrome.

About this Add-on
This add-on will stop working when Firefox 57 arrives in November 2017 and Mozilla drops support for XUL / XPCOM / legacy add-ons. It should still work on Firefox 52 ESR until ESR moves to Firefox 59 ESR in 2018 (~Q2).
There is no "please port it" or "please add support for it" this time, because the entire add-on eco system changes and the technology behind this kind of add-on gets dropped without replacement.

Mozilla’s development environment has gotten pretty irritating as of late, and I just don’t have the cycles (or the drive) to fix the issues that exist.
The future of Firefox add-ons lies in WebExtensions, and toolbar support in that arena is pretty bare-bones (last I looked). The default Firefox search box meets most needs, which has motivated me to drop this extension.
For those that are so-inclined, I will accept pull requests at the official googlebarlite repo. Or, you can fork the project and roll your own.
Favicon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A favicon /ˈfæv.ɪˌkɒn/ (short for favorite icon), also known as a shortcut icon, website icon, tab icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more small icons, associated with a particular website or web page. A web designer can create such an icon and upload it to a website (or web page) by several means, and graphical web browsers will then make use of it. Browsers that provide favicon support typically display a page's favicon in the browser's address bar (sometimes in the history as well) and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers that support a tabbed document interface typically show a page's favicon next to the page's title on the tab, and site-specific browsers use the favicon as a desktop icon.

1) Form History Control end-of-life?
Saturday, February 4, 2017 | 16:55
As much as I like to further develop the FHC add-on, the upcoming changes by Mozilla make it very difficult, if not impossible, to keep this add-on compatible with future versions of Firefox.
The changes needed to make FHC multiprocess (aka Electrolysis or e10s) compatible are surely possible and probably not very hard to do (although it does probably take many, many hours of work to implement), but the changes needed to make it WebExtensions compatible and maintain it's current features are almost certainly impossible.
The API's supported by WebExtensions do not include an API for accessing the formhistory which is the base for one of the core features of this add-on.
Furthermore this add-on relies heavily on XUL for the GUI and that is also gone under WebExtensions, so the complete GUI and all its interactions have to be rewritten from scratch.
According to the timeline of mozilla, it looks like WebExtensions are becoming the standard for add-on development in Firefox and will be the only type of add-on supported in Firefox by the end of 2017. (see wiki.mozilla.org and blog.mozilla.org)
All things considered I have to conclude that this Form History Control add-on has come end-of-life.

2) Form History Control II

I am happy to announce that work on porting this extension to e10s and web-extensions has started.
Not all functionality from the current version can be ported due to limitations imposed by the new API.
Due to he lack of a decent FileIO-API importing and exporting history will be impossible. The new API is also missing services to interact with the browsers internal Formhistory storage, so the new add-on must gather and maintain its own copy.

This way one can keep all the extensions and still have a browser accepted/made by Mozilla.-Curt (August 28, 2017, 08:11 AM)
a lot more addons were ruined by the last Firefox update. I have removed it and moved to "ESR" (Firefox Extended Support Release ESR):

The developer(s) behind Waterfox (https://www.waterfoxproject.org) intend to keep support (https://www.ghacks.net/2017/08/16/waterfox-news-android-app-legacy-addons/) for "legacy" extensions-irkregent (August 29, 2017, 12:25 PM)
The otherwise very fine EPUBReader version 2 does not install on Firefox ESR.
EPUBReader version 1.5.0.12 is needed for ESR: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/versions/?page=1#version-1.5.0.12 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/versions/?page=1#version-1.5.0.12)-Curt (September 02, 2017, 05:18 AM)
(...) pave the way to keeping add-on support in Waterfox. Waterfox now uses its own separate profile directory and migrates all your existing data to it. In the coming weeks the website will get an infrastructure update to pave the way for an add-on store.

I love how Waterfox is properly shows "legacy" addons as "full add-on"!

I wonder why you would update your browser(s) to the latest versions, but refuse to update the OS to at least a decently updated version :-\There are valid reasons. Im running xp on a machine because theres a known bug in vpn software that is used that if you connect with anything later to a windows 8.1 box, it can glitch out.-Ath (September 18, 2017, 05:51 AM)
[OT]: This smells a lot like a spam message..., and also it should have gone into the existing thread of (nearly) the same name.
Any admin who agrees with me should IMHO remove this thread and probably the OP too.-Ath (October 18, 2018, 10:02 AM)
btw, anyone who tries firefox to see if they want to keep using it, should not even start to try it until they install Tab Mix Plus.
