free: https://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/0710/Burning_Software/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-6
$50: https://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/3510/Burning_Software/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-12

Some of us love to hate Ashampoo because of their e-mail marketing,
but we all agree that their Burning Studios are good quality.

GOTD (http://giveawayoftheday.com) frequently gives away this type of software with a lot of user comments by the end of the day. The progs tend to make regular visits. Starburn there today.

Looks like a nice program, but does it decrypt copy protection?

backup and convert DVDs, even if copy-protected

DVD Copy Protection & Copy Modes

BlazeVideo DVD Copy is able to remove new SONY ARccOS protection and ARccOS protection.
Copy CSS encrypted DVD and remove region protections like CPPM, APS, UOPs, ARccOS, RipGuard, and RPC-I/RPC-II/RCE when backup DVDs.
Flexible DVD copy modes for your choice: Entire Disc, Main Movie, Customize and Split Disc.
-blazevideo.com

I have never tried the program.

Thanks guys.  I need to read up somewhere on this dvd rip and burn stuff - I rip from one program and burn from another and then the machine doesn't recognise the format!  That's why I asked for something simple cos I've only just started trying to do this.

Thanks again for your input,

Cheers,
Keith

The GOTD comments are a good source of info and alternatives, free and paid, and so are the linked Ashraf reviews. And you can search for all previous DVD copier listings to see the comments made then. Blazevideo seems to have been panned by almost everyone.

DVDSmith Movie Backup is a freebie that I use.  It's really easy to use and decrypts copy protected movies better and faster than some commercial offerings.

You might want to do a little format checking:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_formats
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video

I have spent money on several dvd makers, and many were no good. I have one that makes good dvd, is simple to use
I can let you know it's name if you want, but not sure if it rips and burns. But if the one above is free, just play around with it.  Most all my software is free ware, except for this. Good luck

Thanks for the links SQUIDMAN, it appears from what I've read recently the correct format to burn is PAL but I haven't tried it yet, been one of those weeks but I'll take a closer look later.

Thanks again.

No problem, Ive wasted quite a few DVR's to find out I was doing something wrong. Drop a line if you need anything else.
Just in case I will leave a link to some of the vids I've edited on a French site.
