Whatever floats your boat.

Except Netscape.

There was a time when Opera was it, then it was Firefox, then SRWare Iron, then Firefox... but these days it's Chromium. Certainly not religious about my browser, and may well switch again. Doubt that I'll go back to Firefox, though, but maybe another Chromium flavour or Opera.

edit:
The 'why' bit: I had too many unpleasant experiences with Firefox, mostly regarding extensions, and I was tired of having to restart the browser every time I installed/uninstalled extensions. Maybe that's changed now, but put me off. Firefox always seemed slower to me, both startup and browsing. I don't have any facts to back it up, but it just felt that way...

For Opera, too many pages looked a bit wrong and I was not impressed with the lack of 3rd party extensions. Now that it's changed, I'll give it another run for the money (it's originally Norwegian, like me, so there's a patriotic reason as well ;) ).

Chromium: Just works. I had a problem, which was easily fixed by deactivating an extension (no restarting this or that). Would like to be able to modify the context menu and a few other things, like in Opera, but don't want it enough to not use it.

Not this topic again ;p. Everyone has their own preference. Opera is an *excellent* web browser though and had zooming capabilities that were years ahead of its time (other browsers have only recently caught up). It still is my preference for Mobile use. These days, whichever you pick is good enough. Myself, it's Opera Mobile, Chrome, and Firefox. Internet Explorer is the only browser I try to never use, though even it has gotten a lot better than it used to be. I get sick of Chrome, and go back to Firefox. Get sick of Firefox, go back to Chrome. However, now that Google is integrating more of its online services into Chrome-specific code, they may very well try to 'tie' us Google users into Chrome.. Well, they already are in fact. At first they also offered the same extended capabilities via a Firefox or IE plug-in, but now it's Chrome only ;o

I have been a long time user of Firefox, but am getting tired of all its updates and broken extensions.  I do like the fact that it is customizable.  I like the speed of Chrome and am now using SwIron instead.  However, I miss some of the toolbars that IE and Firefox have.  IE 9 on my W7 machine is the best IE yet, IMHO.

Some years ago, I used K-Meleon and liked its speed but it wasnt updated very often (and still isn't).

What is the difference between Chromium and SwIron?

Opera is my primary browser too.  For a backup, I usually use firefox for the power of its extensions.
For quick and fast access to a website where I am not going to be using a browser otherwsie, I usually rely on chrome.

I use Opera and Chrome mostly.

Chrome is going downhill lately. The last few months I've noticed it's being a little greedy bitch and crashing with much higher frequency.

One of the problems is that web designers are for the most part, complete idiots. They seem to think that 500,000 lines of JavaScript is acceptable for 1 web page. WTF? They just destroy the web like that. It shouldn't take a year less a day to scroll down a single page. (Facebook is a major culprit here.)

Opera is far more stable. I've noticed that shitty pages tend to perform better in Opera as well. Opera is, what would you call it, kind of like a helmet for retarded children, just for web designers instead.

Ahhh... That was a rant long over due! :D

My favorite? Firefox when it was back around version 3.

I mostly use Opera these days.

Firefox when I need to. Ditto IE mostly when dealing with Microsoft partner stuff.

I must admit, I sometimes do switch on to Firefox, but ONLY when I need to be logged into the same website under 2 names (testing my own stuff, one admin, one normal user account) or when I am watching Netflix (because they are idiots and refuse to work in Opera).

Opera ofcourse

(though it lacks some serious features and it has some serious drawbacks)

Hi,

The Tab Mix Plus extension in Firefox is very good, and very basic to knowing and placing what you have open, if you tell me Opera or Chrome can do similar, I will use them more.  Four or five rows of tabs, flexible size to print, deciding whether to give focus or not on various types of opening.

Firefox slows my system down after 40 or 80 windows are open. Lack of CPU control against some type of script, I think. I crash it and start over, or I reboot the whole system sometimes.  I don't think Process Tamer or Lasso will solve that problem, since it slows down my use of Firefox the most.

Yeah, me too.  But I'm thinking I'm going to have to upgrade at some point, not looking forward to it.

Like many I was a long time FF user due to it's extensions - many but particularly Tab mix Plus and Download Them All (and Adblock but most have that now)
FF has slowed whilst Chrome is fast and I am a heavy Google user anyway so ...
Have consider Chromium and SRW Iron but not that concerned about privacy as I am Google's b1tch already :)

My major gripe with Chrome is the stealing of focus
With FF (and Tab Mix plus) I could use Tweetdeck or an email program and click web links which would load in tabs in the browser in the background without stealing focus from the current app
Would love to have that capability from Chrome but not possible
Does Opera do this? If so I might give it a try

Years ago, Opera was my default browser (even back in the days when I had to pay for it).  Eventually, I switched to Firefox, both because more sites looked right in it and because it had some useful add-ons and Opera at that time had none.  I've stayed with FF, using Opera as my backup, mostly because some of the add-ons I care about most are not available on Opera.  I'm thinking especially of Lazarus and the add-on for Surfulater (Surfulater works MUCH less well in Opera).  As for Chrome, I don't even have it on my computer.   I don't have confidence in how Google will use what it knows about users of its software (and hardware).  I really don't feel comfortable making it easy for Google to track every website I visit.

Firefox and Opera are the best if you need to download. Chrome blows. As bad as IE. Or worse.

The thing with FF and Opera is that you can pause downloads, etc. etc. Far superior to the others.

So far nobody has mentioned Safari... ;) :P

Was on opera till 2 days ago. Moved to chrome. JS performance + sites never tested on Opera made me switch. Plus a vi plugin better than vimium ;)

I use Firefox most of the time. Use IE for Windows Update and certain corporate sites that only work in it. I have Opera and Chrome installed. Never use Safari on desktop.

I've been using Opera for my browsing and inbuilt email client for a decade or more.

Occasionally I fall out of love with some incompatibility or other, but then I try the competition and soon find myself back in bed with Opera.

Lately I've just been using Free Download Manager for 90% of my downloads under Windows. (And wget under Linux!) So I pretty much bypass any browser's built-in d/l manager.

@Ren - nobody is ever gonna mention Safari and you know it! ;D :P

In this case even (a) Lynx knows how to survive (the) Safari....  :P

I'm playing with Pale Moon at the moment but -- apart from the lack of orange -- am not seeing much difference between it and Firefox.

I LIKE Firefox (and the portable version which I use a LOT.) But there's a few indispensable addons to make it a keeper. Lastpass. Speed Dial. Tab Mix Plus. AdBlockPlus. NoScript. DownThemAll.

Speed Dial in particular broke my previous addiction to Opera, although the lack of extensibility for the latter (can't use Roboform or Lastpass, last time I looked) took away its other advantages.

The best thing about Opera is Fastmail.fm. By contrast, the embedded email client is from another universe to the one I inhabit and I couldn't use it.

I don't get many crashes. Maybe three in the last year?

LastPass now works with Opera.  You used to have to use bookmarklets, but now there's a regular LastPass icon for the toolbar, similar to the one for Firefox.

Waterfox is fast!  And regular firefox addons work??  Cool.

Waterfox (http://waterfoxproject.org/) has become my new favourite;
all the addons from Firefox, and some more speed

Comodo Dragon (like SRWare Iron but with automatic updates) and Opera.  I very much wish however all the TabMix plus options would be supported by those.

Been all around the block, and always come back to Firefox... I love it for its add-ons, which don't slow it down overly, if I'm careful about which ones I install. And since around v9 or 10 when they finally fixed its tendency to take 20 minutes to quit properly, it now seems very smooth and quick.

Opera used to be the fastest thing available, before v11 I think when it became a RAM hog like FF pre-v9. Chrome I liked because it syncs so nicely with Google accounts... and sync'ing also syncs add ons, but I didn't find it especially fast.

The main thing was that my favourite download manager (FDM) never seemed happy with Chrome or Opera. Especially for downloading vids from Youtube etc. So, back to Firefox.
