Title: Screenshot Captor Auto Upload/ftp/imageshack/dropbox/etc using ZUploader
Post by: mouser on September 07, 2011, 10:39 PM

UPDATE 3/26/13:
Regarding the instructions below -- while SC still works well with ShareX (and ShareXmod), it also now includes it's own built-in uploader which is considerably easier and faster to use.

I wanted to start a new thread about the new support in Screenshot Captor (https://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html) for uploading and sharing screenshots using the free open source ZUploader (http://code.google.com/p/zscreen/downloads/list?can=2&q=zuploader&sort=-uploaded) 3rd party tool.

From Screenshot Captor you will see help for installing ZUploader in the options

In short, just install ZUploader and Screenshot Captor will know how to use it.

Let me know how it works for you -- any questions or comments.  And if you are a heavy user of this feature, please send a donation to the developers of ZUploader (see button in program window).

Thanks for posting that. It's out for me though. GPL. :(

If anyone has a non-GPL suggestion, I'm all ears. I'm fine with LGPL, BSD, or pretty much anything else. Just not with viral licenses like the GPL. (Not that I'm against it -- it's just not for me.)

Well you might care about gpl if you were planning on incorporating the source code into your own application -- but this is a case where i am simply invoking the unchanged executable not making use of the source code.

Anyway -- let's keep this thread just for discussing the integration of ZUploader with Screenshot Captor.

ZUploader does a nice job -- it's never been easier to share a screenshot from Screenshot Captor:  Two clicks and your SC image is uploaded to imageshack anonymously with a url copied to your clipboard that you can share with your friends.

Or configure one of the other private upload account options for more privacy.

Finally I think we have simple, fast and flexible image uploading functionality for SC.

Good job ZUploader!

Anyone tried it yet? I'm really loving ZUploader and I'm thrilled to finally have a good solution to all of SC's uploading/sharing needs.

I had a great talk with the lead developer of ZUploader who expressed a willingness to add features if people come up with any.  I think one natural one might be allowing you to select multiple files at once from the thumbnail panel to upload in one operation (right now you have to select them one at a time if they weren't auto uploaded).

Any other feature requests? Any other feedback on the feature?  Anyone having any trouble getting it to work?

Thanks, I haven't played with it yet but I did set up the sites and email, which was easy.
Will test and play when I have time.

This certainly a big plus for SC.
Others will shoot and upload to sites but that's it,
they don't have the excellent capture, edit and other abilities of SC.

Hi,

Ok, I'm impressed.  I know we were discussing zScreen and zUploader and it looks like screenshot captor simply gives you that much more versatility on the screen shot and manipulation and annotation area. kewl. So I now have a download (hmm.. have to figger out how to register) and will try some in the days ahead.

Interestingly, the Bits du Jour tonight (ends in an hour or so) has been CloudZap.  CloudZap has similarity to zUploader in terms of upload integration.

However it works through setting up a queue by pointing to a file, or using their printer driver for a PDF OR through .. SnagIt for direct pic integration. The problem is that SnagIt is pricey, messing up the deal.  The rest is still interesting, but that should go on a regular thread.

Shalom,
Steven

Great idea.  Never realized that many of the screenshots I take do end-up on photobucket.  Integration into SC saves a step.

With latest version of ZUploader it does not work.

The ZUploader windows pops up but no uploading starts

crikey you are right.  is it the zuploader update that is making it fail or my screenshot captor update?

sigh.. it looks like somethng changed after ZUploader-4.0.0.2503-setup.exe -- that's the last version that it works with.
install that version until i can talk to the author of ZUploader about why it's breaking.

---

Looks like the new version does not like spaces in filenames..

Thanks for the report -- I've pushed out a quick update to SC to make it pass short filename so it should work now with latest ZUploader; i'll go back to passing long filename when ZUploader author fixes ZUploader.

What about double-quoting the long filename before passing it to ZUploader?

Yikes.  Attempted to configure ZUploader to use my Photobucket account but don't like that it'll be trusted enough to view, delete or modify album files.  Only want to allow uploads.

Let's ask Jaex, the developer, if it's possible to configure it with less permission.

I checked here but can't find permission setting for authentication.

Jaex!

Welcome to the site and thank you so much for your work on ZUploader -- it's a great program.

Thanks for checking.  Unfortunately, ZUploader's permission needs are a fatal drawback.  Call me paranoid, but don't want to risk anybody messing with my files.

Just means you can't use photobucket -- or that you should complain to photobucket to make available a lesser permission option.

Jaex fixed the problem -- it will be fixed in his next update of ZUploader

An alternative would be to use TinyPic where an account isn't required.

I install both Screenshot Captor and ZUploader in portable  mode.
How do I config Screenshot Captor to use ZUploader?
I search all .ini files and can't find anything relative to it.
It seems that Screenshot Captor  is search for registry data for ZUploader path.

To run ZUpload with Screenshot Captor portably -- unpack the ZUploader.exe file and associated DLLs into the directory:
C:\Program Files\Screenshot Captor\Tools\ZUploader

Let me know if it works for you.

Yes, this works.
Get author support in 5 minutes.
What more can I ask?
Thank you.

I use upload captured files by Zuploader several times daily, is there a keyword shorcut for o saving&uploading the current file?

Another option would be to have this option in in clickable icon form. Right now, after editing I have to to do 3 things:

1. save fale
2. click the external tools button
3. click zuploader

if there is 1 keybord command/link, it would make life a bit easier ;-)

you can right-click on the tray menu and choose 'Upload last image with ZUploader' option..

Hi,
sorry I'm new to this forum and also to the program. My question is, is it possible to make screenshots and load then every x minutes up to a server when my program is running in virtual-box in the background evtl. with the screen-capture program ??.
That means it sends part of the screen-capture every x minutes to server by replacing the old one while the screen is for the user hidden.

That's an interesting question.

Actually it seems like it might be several questions.

Let's take them one by one:

Can you have Screenshot Captor take an image every X minutes: yes.
Can you have Screenshot Captor take images while it stays hidden out of the way: yes.
Can you have Screenshot Captor automatically upload every image it takes using an external tool like ZUploader: yes.
Can ZUploader be told to overwrite the new uploaded file with same name as previous upload: i'm not sure, please check and tell us.

Can you have Screenshot Captor be taking these automatic captures of a specific window: not explicitly.
You are the first person who has actually ask for this, it's not a bad idea, though it's a bit awkward.  You can have SC take a screenshot of active window, but then when you switch away to another window the automatic capturing will start capturing the newly selected window.  And if you do a repeat-region capture that will have problems if the window in question is off-screen.

Now, it seems to me that your best bet might actually be not to use Screenshot Captor, but to use it's little brother tool, the commandline based MiniCap (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=2179.0).   You could invoke MiniCap from another tool every so often and pass it commandline options to take a screenshot of a specific window by window id or name, save it as a specific name, and then invoke your uploader or ftp tool on that file.

Now I *think* that will work even if the target window is minimized/offscreen but i'm not 100% sure, so you'd have to test that.  If it doesn't let me know, because there may be a capture method that CAN, even if im not using it by default -- and I'd be willing to add that to MiniCap.

In summary, try investigating SC and MiniCap and let me know how far you get, and maybe we can try to get you the last bit of the way there once we know what the problems are.

Hi Mr. Mauser,

thanks for the fast replay. Yes I have downloaded the advised software. Will give it a try. It will take some day's,
because the list I have to do is to long.

In any case thank you for all the info you was giving me.

It does seem like something that would be useful to be able to do, so I am interested in making sure it can be done fairly easily with either SC or MiniCap.  Perhaps someone might even write a coding snack that will periodically trigger MiniCap and the upload.

I went to zuploader site and saw this message.

"Active development has been ceased for ZScreen and ZUploader in favour of ShareX and ShareXmod, which are built on the solid foundation of ZUploader."

Have I searched for the incorrect software.
Thank you

Screenshot Captor has already been updated to work with the new incarnation of ZUploader, aka ShareX, and will automatically use it if it's installed.

Though I must admit this is the first i've heard of "ShareXMod" -- I don't know what the "Mod" part is.

Looks like I might have to update SC again to detect ShareXMod in addition to ShareX.

Hi:
I'm brandnew but got something working.  When I uploaded got this...http://goo.gl/sofhU.  What do I do next?

My goal is to upload an Excel file to my blog at blogspot.  Is it possible?

Thanks,
David

Hi!
Is there any setting in SC 4 (built-in upload tool) that allows copying the uploaded image link into clipboard including [img] tags, for quick posting in different forums?
If not, could this be added? I think it would be useful for people doing lots of tutorials, demos etc.
