v2.30.04 - 2/09/07How to use it?
- When copying and pasting to programs that support DPI information, Screenshot Captor now honors the DPI settings in options (solves bug where images were small when being copied and pasted into outlook, etc).

Mouser: No, the file is 118kb.Try clearing your browser cache. IE can be stubborn about using cached material even after it's been updated online. (Also it happily keeps partially-downloaded files. It just dumps 'em wherever you said to put 'em with the full name of the intended file and no indication there was a problem. Firefox is a little smarter about that stuff.)-deepkent (October 19, 2007, 02:01 PM)
Sorry - forgot to attach the Firefox message, which might help someone else.On the off chance that you haven't deleted it yet, it's on your L: drive just waiting to be run from Windows (Explorer or the command line if you're one of those hard-core typing junkies). :) You were just in a hurry and didn't finish reading the dialog. Firefox has security built in to keep you from running programs directly from it by accident -- if you click the "launch application" button it'll do it. Or just browse to the location it's showing and you'll be all set.-deepkent (October 19, 2007, 04:55 PM)

- Rebuilt with latest version of ImageEn library -- graphics operations run faster (especially shadowing operations -- yay!)
- Bottom panel can now be hidden completely by resizing it to 0 height.
- Completely revamped the options dialog.

and this is my "pre-capture" options (see attachment in previous post (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=3474.msg124036#msg124036))A problem may be related to the window hiding during capture. That's when I was seeing artifacts from other windows. I wonder if it's a timing thing where, once SC is minimized, the grab is done before the window order is finished changing (as far as which one has focus)?-lanux128 (August 09, 2008, 09:16 PM)

definitely try the new version -- one reason this could theoretically happen is if sc was trying to show you a dialog to confirm saving changes to the current image but was minimized; this version will recognize the situation and pop itself up. let me know what you find and try to make a note of what kind of capture you were doing when it happened, etc.-mouser (February 15, 2009, 11:53 PM)

if you can get it to reliably recur, what would be interesting would be to see if delay is much less if you first wake it up with a double click and THEN initiate a capture.. in other words, i wonder if it has something to do with a capture beginning before the program is actually "awake"-mouser (February 20, 2009, 07:34 PM)
SSC is now taking a heck of a long time to complete a capture if I haven't used it for a while. After that it is quick enough. But let it sit and it can take 4, 5 minutes. Even then it stays red sometimes and never does signify the capture is complete unless I manually open the main window. Weird behavior.-J-Mac

After talking with J-Mac I think we've identified the cause of the problem to be the fact that he had many hundreds of screenshots in the Screenshot directory.. While i will work on removing the slowdown that occurs with so many screenshots, people might consider moving screenshots out of their main root Screenshots directory after a while.
The new MoveTo menu items are designed to help you do that regularly and painlessly.-mouser (March 07, 2009, 12:10 AM)
Mouser,
The current version was reported on alt.comp.freeware this morning. The OP was mildly surprised at the size of the download (~9MB) for a "screenshot program". I'd like to offer an explanation, but I haven't used the program. (I don't generally use/want screenshots) I'm planning to check it out so I can clarify in a follow-up post to the newsgroup. This URL is indeed falsely classified as Malware. This has been corrected now and with one of the next VDF updates, the URL shouldn't be blocked anymore.
1) Not impressed that it automatically took all my existing files and placed them in subfolders without asking (hint, a prompt would have been nice). Resulted in a "WTF !" but was easy enough to work out and undo.
2) Flickering looks improved but not really sure if it is fixed (here is hoping).
3) Still have the problem where it sometimes forgets my settings for highlights (specifically 'Inner Color' off and 'Line width' = 3')
4) Have a new intermittent (but frequent) problem where the Screenshot captor appears in the task bar at system start. Have set to start when system starts. Please note this started with 2.77.01.i know the problem, ill look into it again.

Can anybody replicate this?
I'm using Screenshot Captor v2.82.01 - June 1st, 2010 on Vista Home Premium with a user account, UAC On. I've hit what seems to be a weird bug. SSC locks up when I use Shift-PrtScr = Grab selected Region. I make a screenshot, SSC makes its capture sound, and the New Screenshot window (at least I think that's its title - the buttons on the title bar obscure it) pops up. At that point, SSC locks up and I have to forcibly terminate it. I didn't try scrolling region or repeat last, but all the other methods seem OK. This behaviour mostly happens if Shift-PrtScr is the FIRST capture. That is, if I tried other methods first, it usually, but not always, works as expected; sometimes it locks up even if I have tried another capture method first. I think Red Box mode may have a problem? Something like this happened with the beta, but I think earlier versions were OK.-rjbull (June 04, 2010, 03:23 PM)
minor update:
v2.84.01 - August 18th, 2010-mouser (August 18, 2010, 08:41 PM)
Thanks for the update, mouser.
One thing:
I am a bit confused how to control what SSC copies to the clipboard. I found that the Shortcut CTRL+C works in a different way than using the menu item "Copy image/object to clipboard (CTRL+C)". Shouldn't they do the same?
Using the menu item created two kinds of bitmaps: "Device Independent Bitmap" and just "Bitmap" while CTRL+C creates just a "packet". To paste an image into e.g. an HTML mail I have to always use the menu.
And, additionally, it would be nice if we could set up, what and what not to copy to the clipboard. When both kinds of the above mentioned bitmaps are in the clipboard there's a default action when pasting and that's normally the Device Independent Bitmap, which resizes ugly in HTML mails or RTF pages. So there's always the need to first select which one to copy and choose just "Bitmap".-xcopy (August 20, 2010, 03:47 AM)

Moving a file with objects using MoveTo Folders should also move the .png.objects file but doesn't seem to?
Renaming a file doesn't seem to maintain the .png.objects file which stores the markup objects (arrows, etc.).
Mouser, Thanks Again !
1. SC entire screen + ALL OKAY. no enlarge problem at all.
2. People keen to use SC region ? It shows this is more appealing to the majority of people using it. It's saving an extra action we "CROP" it after SC entire screen. Plus, we know what we are doing as we DRAG the region ourself so this makes us feel safe at the time we doing it.
3. I am using single monitor. Window 7 64 bit, I believe it is usual configuration since I am not geek and this machine is recently purchase & I no modification (I know nothing when talks about geek modification)
4. Red box mode now works (not 100% I would say, may be 80%) I need to test by restarting SC, even restarting Win 7 couple of times/days to see.
Thanks Mouser !-emcemc (November 07, 2010, 08:22 PM)

I really need the copy-to-clipboard functionality -- either by setting it up as the default capture output, or, some way to easily select it as the desired output after the capture occurs.
Right now I must have accidentally changed a setting because it's saving every capture to "Screenshots" folder even though I do not want it to, and I am not selecting "Save Image As", or "Save image and show", or "Save image but hide". I am selecting "To clipboard: Image" and then clicking "X" to close the dialog. Then another window appears with the image in it; but I don't want this window either and I don't know what I've done to make it pop up. Then I go and delete where the image was saved on disk.
I tried searching the forum for "clipboard" trying to find clues about how to send the output to clipboard but can't see any.
If you could please explain where to find it and turn it on, or what steps to take to make it happen when doing a capture, I would be grateful.
Thanks.-squishy (July 09, 2013, 02:48 PM)

Can I group selected items (several objects) into one object in screenshot capture?I'm afraid not. What I always suggest to people who need to do SERIOUS object editing on their screenshots is to use a professional image editor and configure it within Screenshot Captor so it's easier to launch on files.
I've also made a ton of screencasts
Pressing Alt+C will also copy to the clipboard and dismiss the dialog, same as left clicking the button. Wouldn't Ctrl+C be better? Or, did you stick with the Alt key as a modifier to maintain standard dialog behavior?
I noticed that using the quick Copy to Clipboard option, the drop shadow Post Capture Effect is not captured in the image.
This also creates a saved file of the image. Is there a way to do the same without saving a file, just copy to clipboard?
1) Can we have rounded box as option in 'Draw highlighting' i.e. as below. There is the text border for Arrows has the option for 'RoundBox' so I hope it wouldn't be hard to implement.
2) Would really really really really like it if we could have toolbar buttons for 'Splice out by strip by selection' and 'Splice out by strip by selection - Deluxe effects

SO.. my question is, should i make the new option for control+C (always copy full image) the DEFAULT? I know a few people have posted before about being confused at Ctrl+C behavior, so this might be the least confusing option.I'd vote for default!-mouser (October 10, 2014, 02:00 PM)

i am a LITTLE bit confused about the versions that are currently available.
On the homepage the latest version is "v4.10.0", the forum thread title says "v4.11.0 BETA", the last changelog "v4.12.0 BETA" (4.11 was skipped there btw), the beta download "4.12.1 BETA" and the DC updater wants to update to "4.12.0" (without beta).
Can someone tell me, what's going on right now? :D-ZeDMIN (June 03, 2015, 04:12 AM)

I guess I can fall back to whatever version I was running [4.13?] since it was capturing Electricsheep fine.
If its capturing full screen fine just not windows, then go to "Window Capturing 1" in options and toggle the "try to capture aero glass" option.
Didn't we go through this before?-mouser (November 06, 2015, 04:36 PM)
I just went and checked the 'aero' button and it still fails to capture.im fairly certain you want it unchecked.
Tried to attach a screenshot of Screenshot Captor but apparently can't run more than one copy at a time.
Ok I am making some progress on improving SC for use on high-dpi monitors; options look a lot more readable as does text.
Need to do a little more tweaking though for some oddities, and need to scale up the button images.

The cursor selection highlight can be moved down the tree (cursor down) - i.e., down a group and into the next group - in the non-intuitive manner as described above, but not up. The cursor selection highlight can only be moved up within the group where it is currently residing, up to the first item in that group, whereupon it hits a ceiling, above which it cannot travel. I think this may be a mistake rather than a bug. It seems counter-intuitive, anyway, and inconsistent.-IainB (March 14, 2017, 02:24 AM)
Is it possible to add support for the file formats BPG and WebP? They've both been out for a good while now (though still not that popularized due to lack of software support), and the image comparison tool here shows a far superior image quality as well as file size ratio.-Cocoa (March 16, 2017, 04:20 AM)
Yep. Too bad I still can't find a single image viewing/management software that supports BPG. Or at least one that is of decent functionality anyway. IrfanView has at least added support for WebP through a plugin, so I thought if I can't get BPG, at least WebP would be better than nothing. Both are better than JPG in many ways (WebP also supports lossless), though in terms of lossy, BPG is better than both by bounds and leaps. Is it possible to add support for the file formats BPG and WebP? It seems to work fine for me.I've tried the portable version in Windows 7 and installed versions on two different Windows 10 machines and I can't get text boxes to create with a solid colour properly at all. Either I get no colour whatever I do, or the current colour won't change, or it works fine until I click outside then the background goes transparent. The only way I can make solid colour text boxes is with plain filled rectangles and a separate text box on top.-dluby (April 25, 2017, 07:20 AM)

That sometimes happens with a browser being stupid and failing with a partial file, but my normal reply is to tell the person to try a different browser.. But you seem to have already done that... I just tried downloading the file and it works fine here. It could be some kind of proxy with your web provided.. Maybe try downloading it with some fake stuff at the end of the url to bypass any proxy, like:

Toolbar-hubi (March 12, 2018, 07:05 PM)
I think you're confusing the thumbnail panel with the "clipart panel".
The thumbnail panel, which is (almost) always on screen and shows the content of your current screenshot directory, has no such right-click "browse here" entry, but only because there has always been an easy way to browse your current screenshot directory, from the main menu. From the main menu choose "GoTo-> " and then the 2nd item down is "Explore at current screenshot directory". Or to do it fast hit Alt+G and then E.
The new feature is for the Clipart Object functionality, which allows you to drop special clipart images on your screenshots and manipulate them as objects.-mouser (April 05, 2018, 07:17 PM)

For the Delete Contents of Selection - can you make it so it works with the Delete key by default?
I'm hesitant to do that for a couple of reasons.. one is that I'm afraid people might hit delete key expecting something different or using it thinking they were deleting an object, etc... Let me wait a bit and see how I feel.-mouser (January 02, 2020, 01:23 PM)
Apologies if I missed any comments about icon quality -- the bigger sizes are poorer quality, especially noticable where there are diagonal lines. They seem to be resized up from the 16 x 16 versions.yep, they are just the scaled up versions of the 16x16 icons -- not ideal but better than nothing.
