Title: NANY 2010 - Instructions

N.A.N.Y. stands for "New Apps for the New Year", and is an event where we try to get all the coders who hang out at DonationCoder.com to release a brand new FREEWARE/DONATIONWARE application to celebrate the coming of the new year. The NANY event is a celebration of software - it's not a competition and there is no winner.

Who can believe that the 2009 Challenge (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?board=273.0) was 12 months ago already? It only seems like yesterday we were celebrating the enormous success of NANY 2009... and now it's time to get down and make NANY 2010 an even bigger success!

The Challenge

The Process
1. Make a pledge in NANY 2010 Pledge to Participate Here (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20533.0) thread. NANY's come in two variations:
2. Create a Thread when you're ready in the NANY 2010 (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?board=284.0) board.
3. Maintain your Project. All Normal NANY Submissions will receive a RedMine (http://www.redmine.org/) DC Project where they can use RedMine's bug tracker, wiki, files and documents. This year you'll be able to track the downloads and manage issue tracking through RedMine.
4. Use the NANY Ribbons (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20877.0) to link to your Pledge/Entry from your website, etc.

The Rules

Volunteers
Another new innovation this year is volunteers, Volunteers will receive a NANY Prize as well. Volunteers can make themselves available in the Volunteer Thread (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20824.0). Volunteers can do anything to help the NANY authors, including:

The Rewards
The NANY event is a community celebration, not a competition and therefore there can be no winner; apart from the obvious rewards for the software using community, everyone who participates in NANY, either as a software author or volunteer, will receive a stunning DonationCoder mug or T-Shirt with a brand new and very collectible NANY 2010 image designed by the artist Nick Pearson (See NANY 2009 image (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=16266)).

So? What are you waiting for?
There's an Ideas Thread (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20668.0) if you're stuck for an idea...

And there's the Volunteer Thread (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20824.0) if you just want to help others out!

You know Chris, have you thought about offering your skills as a Volunteer Punner (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20824.0)  :D It would make ReadMe's and Help Files much more fun to read!

Many people begin their remarks to me in this way.
Most end with suggestions about long-distance travel destinations or impossible anatomical endeavours..

The only mug I care to see is on the bottom of the just emptied "shot" (tequila really brings out the color in my eyes)  :P

I think we all need to express our immense gratitude to Perry Mowbray for organizing and supervising NANY this year.

Without him I don't think this event would really even be possible any more -- it's a huge amount of work and Perry brings so much energy to it, I almost can't believe it.

I think it makes all the difference in the world.

Thank you Perry  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Title: Mini NANY's are here
Post by: Perry Mowbray on December 08, 2009, 09:43 PM
I'm proud to announce that we are now accepting Mini NANY Pledges and Entries.

:-\ What on earth is a Mini NANY?

We became aware that there may be a number of people who, for whatever reason, don't have the resources to complete a full NANY this year (me being one  :-[). And rather than exclude them from the fun of releasing something for the New Year, we decided to introduce a new category in NANY called Mini NANY.

A Mini NANY could be:

We're hoping that providing a category with a lower bar will enable everyone to participate... so now there is no excuse (even if you are time poor) not to get involved and join the fun!

wanted to add that i think if you create a new website with some substantial info about something that is useful for people, and is in same spirit of promoting free information (not a business site designed to make you money!), this should count as NANY or mini-NANY too.

then send me a message or email([email protected]) letting me know the project name you want, and i will create project and make you manager of it.

Unable to make my entry this year. But just like last year, i'm planning for interviewing NANY participants. I'll post a thread once i'm done with the interviews.
